The team over at Geeky Gadgets have created another home-made stand. Previous versions included the iPhone Pencil Stand that as the name suggests, holds an iPhone.

The new stand is called the Pencil iPad Stand and was designed to hold an iPad in place on your desk so you can watch a movie. The design used for this stand follows the same style before in that you get a few elastic bands and pencils and tie them together to create a place for the iPhone to sit on. However, the iPad is larger and due to the larger size and extra weight, the stand had to be put together slightly differently to compensate for the size and weight change. [Read more…]

Zlin are unveiling a new plane soon. The new plane is called the iCub and as the name suggests, it integrates Apple [AAPL] technology in to the cockpit.

The iCub has a space available to fit an iPad that can be used to navigate around. When normally choosing navigation equipment the costs can run in to the $1000’s due to the amount of equipment you need. However, the iCub is not designed for mundane tasks of flying from a to b. Instead, it’s supposed to be a fun plane to fly. The iPad has apps that make it versatile enough to be used in the plane so that weather charts and navigation details can be displayed with the iPad 3G’s built in GPS sensor. The Apple iPad screen doesn’t support pressure-sensitivity. It merely just knows when your finger touches the screen and acts accordingly.

Thanks to the smart people at Ten One Design this could soon change. The company has managed to build a private function call that allows a special pen to be used with varying degrees of pressure. When pressing down harder the line you draw gets darker and when pressing lightly the line is more faded.

The problem here though is that the company had to use a private function call which basically means it won’t be approved by Apple [AAPL] unless Apple decide to allow it in to iOS as standard. [Read more…]

A video has been uploaded to Youtube that demonstrates Osmos HD that is being released on July 8th.

The video goes over a couple of levels and shows an excellent and challenging game. The game requires strategy to play and cannot be played with speed.

We also hear that as well as an iPad version launching there will also be an iPhone version following within a month or so. [Read more…]

The Wired iPad app is dropping in price. The first edition of the app cost $4.99. Conde Nast are dropping the price by a dollar which knocks 20% off the price taking it down to $3.99. It’s not a huge saving by any means, but at least it’s a little cheaper than it was before.

The reason the company are changing the price appears to be related to experimenting to see what price point works the best. The June issue that cost $4.99 sold 95,000 digital copies at that price. Perhaps the new version will sell more, we won’t know till this time next month.

Conde says it will be experimenting with digital magazine pricing for months to come. But Wired editor Chris Anderson, who wants us to know that he doesn’t control his magazine’s sales price, makes the common sense argument: Digital editions should cost less than physical ones because there’s no distribution cost.

Blogshelf is an RSS reader app that gives the feeds you read a book like appearance. The software is built for the Apple iPad and makes use of the large screen to make feed reading more comfortable and easier to read.

The app looks similar to Apple’s [AAPL] own iBooks application in that it puts all your feeds on a bookshelf system where you can easily scroll through and tap to open the various feeds. [Read more…]

Apple [AAPL] announced yesterday that it had shifted 3 million Apple iPad’s in just 80 days. That’s an impressive number considering a few criticisms saying that people wouldn’t be interested in it.

The news follows the 2 million mark that was reached on June 4 which means 1 million iPad units were sold in 18 days. That averages out at 55.5K per day or 2315 per hour.

Gadgets blog Geeky Gadgets points out that at this rate the sales figures could reach 10 Million units which isn’t bad at all. [Read more…]

Some estimations indicated that Apple [AAPL] could be shifting in the region of 1.2 million iPads per month. Estimates also indicate that Apple could be shifting 2.5 million per month by the end of this year making it a huge success.

If the estimates are accurate then Apple will be continuing to ramp up production of the device. It is also believed that Apple has contacted Samsung to provide even more displays for the product. LG is the current provider of screens, so with Samsung on board, the company can produce more iPads.

Samsung is believed to be ramping up production by creating around 300,000 – 500,000 screens per month. LG is believed to be currently creating 800,000 to 900,000 per month. [Read more…]

Finally, Google Earth is now available for download on the iPad. The new app works very similar to how the iPhone version works but with the iPad having a larger screen it makes the experience far better… well, at least the idea is better as we actually found it to be a little buggy and slow.

The main problem we cam across was when using pinch to zoom where the “Earth” couldn’t keep up and kept freezing. Hopefully it’s just a software bug that can be fixed and hopefully a patch will be released soon for that.

But either way, it still looks very impressive running on the larger screen. [Read more…]

Most external keyboards for the iPad are designed to help you type faster. Also, they are designed to give you some tactile feedback which is handy for those who cannot, or do not like touchscreen keyboards.

The USB Typewriter for iPad certainly adds some tactile feedback. The USB Typewriter (as demonstrated below on video) actually works and allows you to tap out messages on the iPad. It connects over the 30 pin dock connector via a USB cable and lets you punch away on the keyboard. Remember last week when a problem at AT&T caused 114,000 email addresses of iPad owners to be leaked? AT&T [T] have now published a formal apology to those 114,000 customers to make all things a little better.

No compensation was offered which is to be expected, but the company does go in to detail what happened and what is being done to make sure it doesn’t happen again. If you remember back to April 1 (April fools day), ThinkGeek were showing a new accessory for the Apple iPad that was to launch shortly after. The device was called the iCade and was basically a miniature stand with old arcade controls to dock your iPad in.

ThinkGeek had the iCade priced at $149.99 although when you went to click on the Buy Now button you were taken to a Gotcha page.

Anyway, some guy has decided to go ahead and build his own. The guys custom iCade for iPad is made of cardboard, has an iPad dock inside and by using arduino circuitry, he was able to attach the controls to the iPad to play games with the joystick rather than by the touchscreen. [Read more…]
