Skype 5.0 Beta for Mac Download Now Available

Recently, Windows users of Skype were able to download the beta version of 5.0 that allowed group video calls to be done. The video chat feature allowed up to 10 people to connect over video for larger conference calls.

This particular version is now available for the Mac. The Skype 5.0 Beta for Mac download can be found over here. As well as bringing conference video calling, there is a new cover flow style video contacts section that lets you scroll through those people you are talking to. [Read more…]

Apple MacBook Air Battery Lasts 2 Hours Longer Without Flash

While Ars Technica was testing the MacBook Air, they found that dumping flash actually boosted the battery life of the Air by two hours.

The MacBook Air doesn’t have Adobe Flash bundled with it on these new models. Instead, Apple suggests that users can download the latest and secure version themselves if needed.

The MacBook Air tested was capable of about six hours of web browsing on a full charge without flash. However, when flash was installed, that dropped to just four hours. [Read more…]

Apple Dead Pixel Policy for iPhone, iPad and Other Screens Leaked

Leaked information has revealed the Apple dead pixel policy for those with any Apple device with a screen.

Items covered in the dead pixel policy are classified by screen size with 1 to 3.5 inches being the lower size all the way up to 30 inch screens.

Some interesting things to point out from the leaked dead pixel policy is that the iPhone, iPod touch and any other device with a 1 to 3.5 inch screen has a zero tolerance policy meaning that 1 dead pixel (bright or dark) is enough to have a repair or replacement done. [Read more…]

Toshiba Folio 100 Launched

Toshiba has launched the Toshiba Folio 100 Android tablet. The distribution of the Folio 100 started today across Europe.

The Folio 100 runs a Tegra 2 chip inside. The screen has a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. For storage it has 16GB built in and has an SD card reader slot allowing more to be added if needed. [Read more…]

Gran Turismo 5 is set to be released… Nope, still no idea

Unfortunately it’s going to take more than a few guess’s to figure out when Gran Turismo 5 will finally land on retailers shelves. We’re finding many varied reports and idea’s across the web as to the official release date for the driving simulator.

GT 5 initially had a launch date for November 3rd, yep that’s right… Today! But that was blown away when the online retailer Amazon had the game listed for a 2011 release. [Read more…]

Google Android Gingerbread to Get Cleaner Menus

Some early hints as to what to expect in the next version of Google Android have been spotted in the latest Google Maps 4.60 update that landed last week.

Buried in the code is a specific section is a bit that specifys the menus to use. For Android 2.2 the level is set at 8. The new Google Maps contains a level 9 which hasn’t been used before. One particular user called canadiancow managed to switch the menus to level 9 and the image below (right hand side of the screenshot) shows what the new menus look like with level 9. [Read more…]

iOS 4.2 Fixes Dialer Security Flaw

iOS 4.1 currently has a bug that lets you pass the lock screen and access the address book and make calls from the device.

Second Gen Galaxy Tab Could get Super AMOLED Screen

This time next year the second gen Samsung Galaxy Tab might sport a seven inch Super AMOLED screen. Some information found today indicates that Samsung Mobile Display is planning to create the 7 inch screen with a resolution of 1200 x 600 pixels.

T-Mobile myTouch 4G Now Available

The T-Mobile myTouch 4G is being made available as of today. The phone its self was announced earlier last month.

The myTouch 4G runs the latest Android 2.2 operating system. It has 4G connectivity, compatible with T-Mobile HSPA+ network. The smartphone has a 3.8 inch display and a processor that runs at 1GHz. The CPU is a Snapdragon from Qualcomm. On the back is a five megapixel camera while on the front there is also a camera. [Read more…]
