Update: It appears that this was a bug and that 3.1.3 devices are now once again able to access the App Store direct on their iOS device.
iPhone and iPod touch users still running iOS 3.1.3 are now (as of the 16th December 2011) unable to directly download apps from the App Store. Instead, new updates and apps will need to be downloaded in iTunes and then synced to the iPhone or iPod.

A few days ago some rumours were spreading about Apple working on bringing Siri to the iPhone 4, iPad and various other iOS devices. The patent problems between Apple and Samsung are continuing to go ahead with details today that hint at Samsung in Korea beginning proceedings to get the iPhone 5 blocked in Korea when it launches. Occasionally we come across very unique apps for the iPhone and iPad. Trimensional is one of those apps which hit the app store just over a week ago. What it does is allows you to use your iPhone 4, iPod touch (4th gen) or iPad 2 as a simple 3D scanner.
The app works by flashing a sequence of four frames on the screen of the iOS device and at the same time, captures images with the front facing camera. By projecting different images from the screen it allows it to create a simple 3D map of a face or any object as pictured below.

The iPod nano is currently in its sixth generation. Most of the previous generations have seen changes to the design, with the 6th gen shrinking the unit right down and putting a touchscreen on the front of it.
We see today that Apple [AAPL], is working on a new seventh generation model that keeps the same form factor as the 6th gen model. The main difference though is that it looks like it will get a camera on the back, and perhaps on the front. The leaked image (larger version below), shows what looks to be the 6th gen device but with a camera hole cut out of the top right of the unit. [click to continue…]
Apple [AAPL] has released a new update for iOS which brings it from iOS 4.3 to 4.3.1. The .1 indicates it's just a minor update with no specific changes to the actual OS.
The bugs repaired include a fix for the 4th generation iPod touch which had some occasional glitches with graphics. Also, activation on some networks was becoming a problem with 4.3. This update addresses that problem. When the Digital AV adapter was used on some TV's, flickering could be seen. 4.3.1 resolves this. Finally, authentication problems with enterprise servers has now been fixed. [click to continue…]

Along with the launch, we also know that the Personal Hotspot feature will be launching, although a chargeable service in most cases.
Another interesting bit of information comes, thanks to BGR, in saying that the rumored 3 Wireless Users limit is actually not a hard limit and that the iPhone 4 supports up to 5 users being connected. However, it is up to the carrier to decide what the limit is. By default it is set at 3, but can be lifted if the carriers so wish. [click to continue…]

Instapaper is a popular app for iOS based devices. Due to the popularity of it, it always manages to hold a decent rank in the News category. That rank is constantly between number 2 and 5.
With the steady rank and popularity, it manages to give the owner, Marco, a good look in to various spikes that iOS devices get in sales. For example, when the iPad launches in a new country, a spike happens on Instapaper downloads. Likewise, when the NYT had a large feature in December about the iPhone, Instapaper downloads spiked (2.86 times to be exact). [click to continue…]

One of the hot gadgets of 2010 has been the Apple iPad. Ever since it was first revealed back in January of 2010, rumors of the iPad 2 started. Most notably, it was pointed out that no cameras were to be included on the original which then made a good point to start with the iPad 2 rumors.
