This week we posted a segment spotted on Youtube about the Nokia N8 and it’s photograph and video editing features. The photography features of the N8 look great. The next segment in the lineup now goes over the Music Player as well as the HDMI output.

The capabilities of the phone in terms of music and the HDMI output are demonstrated by Chris Bennetts who is the senior project manager at Nokia [NOK].

The Music Player looks quite responsive on the video with the scrolling of song titles working as you’d expect. A cover-flow style system is used where you can flick through the album art stored on your device. This feature works in both portrait and landscape modes where the portrait mode shows more information on screen. [Read more…]

Nokia N8 Photography Capabilities Demonstrated on Video

Nokia [NOK] will be launching the Nokia N8 in August. The Nokia Conversations YouTube channel has a few videos uploaded with one of them detailing the Nokia N8 photo editing along with the video editing functions of the device.

The video shows a few examples of how to browse through photos and although not the most exciting of things to watch, it does move on to the video editing functions of the phone where transitions can be made between clips that have been combined together. The application actually looks very good and seems that with the mix of a high resolution camera and some nice transition features it could be a good selling point for the Nokia N8. [Read more…]

Asphalt 5 on Nokia N8 Video Demo

The Nokia N8 looks to be quite a nice smartphone despite the early review of a leaked model.

The video below was provided by Gameloft and shows Asphalt 5 running on the Nokia smartphone. If real, it looks quite amazing. We just mentioned “if real” in that SlashGear rightly point out that the game “might” be rendered or perhaps not showing it actually on a Nokia N8. There are no disclaimers to say other wise, so perhaps it is the real deal. [Read more…]

Nokia C1-00, C1-01 and C1-02 Announced

As well as announcing the Nokia C2, Nokia E73 Mode US availability and a dynamo charger, Nokia also announced a trio of phones in the budget end of devices called the Nokia C1-00, C1-01 and C1-02.

The first of the trio is the Nokia C1-00 (pictured above) that has a double-SIM feature. The C1-00 is the cheaper of the three C1 phones costing just ‚¬30 when it launches (before tax and subsidies). The double-SIM feature, different to the dual-SIM feature of the C2, allows two SIM cards to be used in the phone. Rather than running both at the same time the user has an option to switch between cards by holding down a key. This is similar to the C2, but doesn’t allow both cards to be used at the same time. However, the double-SIM still lets users take advantage of two SIM card tariffs allowing you to get the best deal depending on what you are doing.

The battery life on the C1-00 is an impressive six weeks for standby and is capable of holding 500 phonebook entries and 250 text messages. A flash light is built in and an FM radio with a 3.5mm headphone jack to listen with headphones. The C1-00 is being made available 3rd quarter this year. [Read more…]

Nokia C2 with Dual-SIM Capability Announced

Nokia [NOK] has announced the Nokia C2 dual-SIM mobile phone. The target market for the C2 is the developing world. As the dual-SIM suggests, the device is capable of running two SIM cards at the same time.

What this exactly means is that the Nokia C2 can receive texts and calls to either SIM at the same time giving you two numbers to work from perhaps with one SIM card having the better deal on text messages and the other card having a better deal on voice calls.

What makes this even better is that the second SIM card is hot-swappable allowing it to be removed and another put in place while the phone is switched on. [Read more…]

Nokia Bicycle Charging Kit Coming Soon

To get the phone to charge the bike needs to be moving at about 6 KPH. It stops charging below that and above 50KPH. At 12KPH it reaches the efficiency of a regular plug in the wall charger. [Read more…]

Nokia N8 UK Release Date Confirmed as August 25

The Nokia N8 went up on the Vodafone UK store yesterday allowing users to register their interest in the new Nokia smartphone. With Vodafone putting up the details so early we were hoping for an earlier release as we had heard it isn’t due for launch till August.

Pocket-Lint reported today that the date is still “unfortunately” August and August 25 to be exact. It’s unclear why Nokia announced the N8 so early as phones that get leaked or announced months before launch tend to lose the interest of people.

As for technical specs the new N8 has a 12 megapixel camera that can capture HD at 720p. It runs the new Symbian^3 OS and looks to be an impressive phone. [Read more…]

Nokia N8 180 percent Faster than N97

Although we had a bit of a let down when we heard the Nokia N8 wasn’t due to ship till August, we still hear good news today in that early benchmark tests reveal that the N8 is very quick.

The Nokia N8 has some decent specifications that include a nice 12 megapixel camera although the CPU was thought to be a little on the slow side at 680MHz. However, some benchmark tests have been performed that show the N8 is still quite quick and in fact, it maxed out the benchmarking software on some tests.

Finestfones managed to get some time with the Nokia N8 recently and they decided to use an app called Speedy Go! that allows Symbian users to test their phones and see what kind of frame rates they can get out of it. The Speedy Go! application lets users test various functions with or without the graphics accelerator on. When the accelerator was switched off the phone managed to beat the Nokia N97 by 180%.
