The Nokia 808 PureView smartphone will be going on sale next week in the UK. The 808 PureView is unique due to the size of the camera sensor which is capable of capturing 41 megapixels.
Although carriers will not be offering the device on contract, it will be made available at Clove and will be sold for £499.99 inc VAT.
According to the design chief at Nokia, the company is working on a tablet. He also reports that he is spending up to one third of his time working on this device.
I was lucky enough to get my greasy hands on a Nokia Lumia 800 recently to review. Up until a month ago I knew a whole sum total of one person who had a WP7 device; a HTC Trophy. I must admit, I was impressed with it, the OS was silky smooth and the apps had a really nice design to them utilising the paged appearance where the adjacent items can be slightly seen poking out of the right of the screen. As said, I liked it, however, I was a bit disappointed by the hardware though. The phone looked a tad boring with Microsoft obviously keep very tight wraps on even the hardware specs of the devices allowed to run the OS and HTC failing to inspire the world with the phone design.
So, move along about a year and I find myself un-boxing a nice shiny Nokia Lumia 800. From the packaging it’s clear Nokia have aimed to produce a high end device. The packaging is small, neat and sturdy with the contents well organised. It seems the days are gone when phone packaging was the size of a shoe box. The accessories are all fairly standard, with some black headphones and a wall charger/USB cable. Here lies a small gripe though…the charger looks very similar to an iPhone charger. Now this isn’t a huge problem, except the phone is black, the USB cable is black, the boxing interior is black and yet the mains charger is a small white triangle almost identical to the iPhone’s. Rumours are hinting that Nokia could be launching a Windows 8 based tablet in quarter 4 of this year. The new tablet is believed to have a 10 inch screen and run a dual-core Qualcomm ARM processor. The chip inside is expected to be the Snapdragon S4 Krait.
In the small print of the Nokia 808 PureView specs there’s a bit of information that says the device will not be launching in the US. This might frustrate a few people as the device has an amazing looking 41 megapixel camera on it and caught the attention of many people this past week.
Nokia has confirmed that the new PureView camera technology will be installed on various Windows Phones which are coming soon. For those of you unsure, PureView comes from a new Symbian based smartphone called the Nokia 808 PureView and is used to identify a cameraphone different to others that you have seen. The sensor on the Symbian version is 41 megapixels allowing for extremely high res pictures to be taken or for lower res images to be digitally zoomed without losing any quality.
Nokia has now launched the Nokia 808 PureView for pre-order in the UK. The new 41 megapixel smartphone has been given a possible release date of April 23 although this isn’t set in stone just yet.
Nokia has really stepped up with the Nokia 808 PureView. This smartphone features a 41 megapixel sensor that is capable of capturing some amazing pictures.
Although it’s a 41 megapixel sensor, the maximum you can use is 38 megapixels. As the resolution is so high, you can easily take a large picture and then just crop to the part you want while still having a respectable resolution picture available at the end.
It appears that Nokia is about to step up a little again and introduce a new camera on a smartphone. The flagship camera phone at the moment is the 12 megapixel Nokia N8 although this is getting quite old now. A video posted shows several images each with a tag like of “Get Ready to Capture a Pure View”.
The Nokia Lumia 900 is likely to launch in March, although an exact launch date has not been announced just yet. What we do know is that the device is actually up for pre-order over at Microsoft retail stores.
The mockup image below shows what the Nokia Lumia 900 could look like. The device is expected to launch soon and be a follow on from the Nokia Lumia 800 Windows Phone. The new details reveal that it will likely run the Windows Phone Mango operating system rather than Tango which was previously mentioned.
Youtube user 359gsm has run some tests to compare browser speeds on the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and the Nokia Lumia 800. The iPhone 4 is running iOS 4.3 while the 4S is running iOS 5. The results (unsurprisingly) reveal that the iPhone 4S is the winner. There are a few reasons for this of course.
