Earlier this year, Verizon [VZ] started allowing some smartphones to run the Skype software. Since the launch the software has been restricted to working on a specific range of phones and none others.
It appears now that Verizon are opening up a little by allowing the software to run on non-smartphone devices. A few devices have started showing up on the Verizon database as being compatible. When the Apple iPhone 4 was first revealed a few months back, Steve Jobs described the iPhone as being like a Leica camera. This inspired one guy to look up what a Leica camera was and then adapt an image and resize it so it could be printed out and attached to the back of an iPhone 4.
Google [GOOG] is holding an event this week on August 12.
It’s a common thing to check on how much one country pays for an expensive gadget when compared to another such as the different between a US and UK price of the iPad from Apple [AAPL]. What we haven’t seen before is an iPad data cost comparison that shows how much each country pays in terms of per gigabyte of data.
The Samsung Wave has a navigation app available for it that comes packed in to the Bada operating system. However, when using it you are presented with a 30 day trial which requires you pay after the 30 days to continue using the service.
Apple [AAPL] is launching the iPhone 4 this Friday in 17 more countries. The countries where the
Windows Phone 7 is set to challenge the likes of iOS 4 and Android when it launches in a few months time. Microsoft [MSFT] has dropped quite far behind in recent years due to it’s outdated Windows Mobile OS. The new revamped OS is called Windows Phone 7 and has been built from the ground up. A new UI has been created, compatibility with old apps has been cut off and Microsoft is making a clean start with this OS.
Chinavasion has launched a new USB Hub that has a solar panel built in. The Solar USB Hub is capable of acting as a regular USB hub and allows for four devices to be connected up to it.

Microsofts [MSFT] Worldwide Partner Conference kicks off today over in Washington D.C. where it is expected that the HP Slate could be on show again. A few months back it seemed like the HP Slate had been dropped due to HP buying Palm and webOS. Most people expected that a HP Slate running webOS was going to happen.
OLED screens are rising in popularity and being used more in smartphones. However, according to a report by iSuppli, it seems that manufacturers of the screens cannot keep up with demand.
