Palm Pixi gets a Hands-On

Palm-PixiEngadget managed to get hold of a Palm Pixi to take a look at. Originally it was called the Pixie and then the Eos a few months back… now it is known as the Pixi and is headed to Sprint.

The handset is a very small webOS based handset with 8GB of storage, a full QWERTY keyboard and a 2 megapixel camera with flash. The screen measures 2.63 inches and has a 320 x 400 resolution and the touchscreen is capacitive. [Read more…]

Solar-Panel Roads to Provide Power

solarroadwaysRoads generally aren’t interesting. They are just tarmac, asphalt or some similar material tough enough to take the constant hammering of cars driving over them for several years. A company based in Idaho named Solar Roadways intend to let roads be more useful than before by creating them as sections of solar panels that are strong enough to take a car driving on them, yet useful enough to power about 500 homes per mile of roadway (4 lanes). The company have been given a $100,000 grant to come up with a successful prototype.

The road system is built of 12′ x 12′ panels costing $7000 each and they are designed to replace the normal covering on roads and car parks. As well as covering the road and providing 7.6KWh for each panel the roads could have LED’s embedded in to create warning signs and mark the roads rather than using paint. [Read more…]

Playstation 4 Concept Designed

new-playstation-4-consoleAlthough still a number of years away, a concept designer has decided to create a 3D model of a PlayStation 4. It was created by designer Tai Chiel and has a number of interesting features such as an embedded OLED screen in the transparent section to allow you to view menus, saved games and what looks to be like a game playing on one of the screen shots.

It is unclear when a PS4 will be made available as there are many years left in the PS3 and other consoles like the XBox 360, but that still doesn’t stop the design from being great. [Read more…]

Sharp PC-Z1 MID

Sharp-NetWalker-PC-Z1We mentioned the Sharp PC-Z1 a few days ago and now we managed to spot it in the flesh at IFA. The Sharp PC-Z1, also known as the NetWalker is a mobile internet device that has a 5 inch WSVGA LCD screen, an impressive 10 hour battery life, instant ON and 1 14mm pitch full QWERTY keyboard.

The NetWalker runs the Ubuntu Linux operating system that runs fairly light on system resources. Technical spec wise it has 512Mb of RAM and runs an 800MHz Arm Cortex-A8 processor. The device measures 161 x 109 x 20-25mm in dimensions and weighs just 410g. [Read more…]

LG Magic Motion Remote Control

LG-Magic-Motion-Remote-DeviceAnother product on show at IFA 2009 was the LG Magic Motion remote control that has a gyro built in and can detect rotation and shaking of the remote control.

By using certain gestures like rotating the remote control to the left or right, the TV menu system can be controlled. Then all that is required is a single click to activate the needed function. [Read more…]

LG LU7000 Series Launched

LU7000-3LG have launched the new LU7000 series range of LCD TV’s. The LG LU7000 comes with a built in DVD player and is on display now over at IFA in Germany. It is being announced right now and as soon as we get some live pics we’ll post them here. For now you’ll just have to make do with the nice shiny press shots.

The TV comes in 2 sizes of 19 inches and 22 inches and has a high gloss black finish. Thanks to the built in DVD player you get the benefit of only needing the 1 power cable and not having to have a separate player installed. The LU7000 series are not aimed at being your main TV but instead, could be placed in a kitchen or bedroom for example. [Read more…]

HTC Touch2 Launching October 6 with Windows Phone (6.5)

htc-touch2HTC have announced that they will be launching the HTC Touch2 on October 6th which coincidently, is the same day that Windows Mobile 6.5 (or Windows Phone as it is now called) is going to be launched.

This means that the phone will run the new Windows Phone OS along with HTC’s TouchFLO overlay. If you are wanting a new mobile phone running the latest Windows OS then this is well worth waiting for. The new operating system is a huge leap for Microsoft and actually could be quite good if the hardware runs it well. Specs are unknown for the hardware at the moment, but expect that software wise it will make full use of all the features such as Exchange support. [Read more…]

Sony VAIO X Series 11 Inch Netbook

sony-vaio-x-seriesOver at IFA in Berlin, Sony have announced the new VAIO X series netbook. The Sony Vaio X has an 11 inch screen and is very thin. The casing is made from carbon fibre that houses an aluminium keyboard. As the Vaio X uses lightweight materials it also is very light at just 700 grams.

Right now the display model uses an Intel Atom processor and the machine runs Windows 7 with 2GB of ram and a 31Wh battery. However, Sony have also said that the Atom processor is just one of the options and could be changed in the near future when production models are made (or when more options are made available). The details are being kept very secret at the moment. Interestingly enough, the netbook should launch at the end of the month and cost a usual Sony premium price tag of $2000. [Read more…]

Nebudroid Controller for Android Phones

nebudorid-nes-controller-android-appA great application for Android based phones has been created. It is called Nebudroid and it turns your Android phone in to an NES controller that works with NES emulators and also racing games on the PC.

As well as having the standard D pad and a couple of buttons it also makes use of the accelerometers built in to the phone and can then be used as a steering wheel allowing you to more realistically drive around a track in a game. [Read more…]

Nokia N97 Mini Introcuced

Nokia-N97-miniIt’s a busy day for Nokia news today. More from Nokia Conversations provides details on the Nokia N97 mini that was unveiled just this morning over in Stuttgart.

The new N97 mini has new homescreen widgets as well as some usability improvements. 8GB of storage can be found inside and it has a decent sized 3.2 inch touchscreen as well as a full QWERTY slide out keyboard.

The N97 mini measures just 14.2mm in thickness and has the same design as the regular N97 apart from it being slightly smaller. [Read more…]
