Google TV Release Date Could Be October 17

Google TV is expected to launch any time within the next month. Just a few days ago we heard information from the CEO of Intel who said that the Google TV release date was actually this month although a letter was emailed in to Engadget today that suggests that a two week delay is happening and that the launch is now October 17 (estimated). According to the document, the original release date was October 3 which had two weeks added on to it.

Of course, we are not looking at rock solid proof here and the information does go against what the Intel CEO said, but either way we can expect to see Google TV land in the US in the next 4 to 5 weeks it appears. [Read more…]

Canon PowerShot G12 Announced

The new Canon PowerShot G12 was announced today. The G12 is the latest device in what Canon call the award-winning PowerShot G-series.

Features of the new camera include the Canon HS system, the ability to capture video in HD at 720p and a new Hybrid IS system.

The Canon HS System allows images to be captured in low light environments. A 10.0 megapixel CCD sensor is used along with a DIGIC 4 processor. The CCD sensor has a high sensitivity allowing for the low light shots to be captured.

The inclusion of the HS System allows shooting at higher ISOs with excellent image quality – enabling users to capture exceptional images in all conditions. This extended ISO range allows users to shoot darker scenes without engaging the flash or using a tripod – capturing correctly-exposed images using only the available light. In situations when use of the flash is necessary, a higher ISO will enable users to extend its effective range and illuminate the subject more effectively. Higher ISOs also enable users to utilise faster shutter speeds – freezing motion to capture moving subjects with a reduced risk of blur.

iPad Could Land at Target on October 3

Over the past couple of days we heard some rumours that Target in the US could start selling the Apple iPad. The release date in Target for the iPad is pencilled in as October 3 which is just a few weeks away.

The reason for the rumours is that a new device appeared in the Target inventory system. The new item is listed as being a PDA that will come in six variations (which the iPad comes in 6), and to top it off, the prices all match as well.

Although a “PDA” style device in six variations with the exact pricing as the iPad might exist, we are not aware of what that is and all indications point to the iPad it’s self. [Read more…]

Cydia App Bring HDR to iPhone 3G and 3GS

The iOS 4.1 download brings HDR photography to iPhone 4 users only.

HDR works on the iPhone 4 by capturing three photos with slightly different exposure settings. The pictures are then merged together to bring out the dark spots and light spots on a picture so that all details are made visible.

Unfortunately for iPhone 3G and 3GS users, you don’t get access to this as Apple [AAPL] has restricted HDR to the iPhone 4 only. There is good news though… [Read more…]

Google Maps Navigation Updated

Google [GOOG] has announced a new update to Google Maps for Android. The latest version to download is now 4.5 and introduces Walking Navigation (beta) to the app. Street View smart navigation has also been added to the app.

When using the new Walking Navigation features, the app gives walking directions that follow paths (when paths are in Google maps) rather than keeping you to roads like previously.

“your phone will vibrate when you need to make a turn. You can even turn off voice guidance and just use these notifications while soaking in the sights and sounds around you. To help you orient yourself with your surroundings, the map will rotate with you as you turn the phone, and walking mode uses satellite view by default. Use it like a virtual compass with satellite imagery to look ahead or help pick out landmarks along the way.”

YouTube Instant

Google Instant launched a couple of days ago. The service works by updating the search results as you type in a query which helps you to find things more quickly as well as take hints at what you might be looking for.

Now that Google Instant is available, it’s time to unveil YouTube Instant. YouTube instant isn’t an official Google [GOOG] service. It was created by Feross Aboukhadijeh who is a student at Stanford University.

The idea works in a similar way to how Google Instant works in that as you type something in the search box, the content of the page gets updated. In this case, a new video is pulled with what YouTube Instant thinks you are going to want to type in. [Read more…]
