Apple TV Jailbreak Exploit

The Apple TV runs iOS 4.1, and because of that it means it can be jailbroke although official tests haven’t been performed yet.

The developer of the SHatter exploit, @pod2g, managed to use the SHatter code to decrypt the keys.

It’s looking like SHAtter is going to be the gift that keeps on giving. Even though the new AppleTV isn’t yet in people’s homes, the firmware is available on Apple’s normal public distribution servers and SHAtter has been used to decrypt its keys! The main filesystem (“Mojave8M89.K66OS”) key for 018-8609-066.dmg is:

SHatter iOS 4.1 Jailbreak

The SHatter iOS 4.1 jailbreak looks to be moving along nicely looking at information provided by the iPhone Dev Team.

The video embedded below shows an iPod touch 4th gen model being jailbroke. The SHatter software will use the exploit found by pod2g.

In the meantime, we’ve put @pod2g’s exploit into a beta version of PwnageTool to test the waters. The SHAtter exploit was enough to convince the iPod touch 4G to restore to our custom IPSW. The successful result is shown below! It’s all working: customized Preferences to show battery percentage, Cydia, root shell…the works!

Verizon to Introduce Tiered Data Plans

Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg has commented that the company plan to get rid of unlimited data plans with in the next four to six months.

Replacing the plans will be tiered data plans based on consumption of the user. As for pricing, it is unknown if Verizon [VZ] will go higher or lower than the likes of AT&T [T] who also recently got rid of unlimited data plans.

The CEO noted that Verizon values data differently to its competition. This doesn’t really make it clear if Verizon will become more expensive or cheaper than AT&T on a per MB calculation. [Read more…]

iTunes Error 37 Jailbreak Fixed with Sn0wbreeze Update

The Sn0wbreeze jailbreak for iOS 4.1 was released recently although the original version 2 caused an error for some users. The error in iTunes was Error 37 that basically stopped the jailbreak process midway.

Error 37 appears in iTunes when users are midway through the jailbreak process when the custom firmware is being uploaded back to the iPhone.

In response to the error, the people behind Sn0wbreeze have now created version 2.0.1 that aims to fix the problem. The iOS 4.1 jailbreak works just like the previous version and simply exists to get rid of the error. [Read more…]

DropBox Updates Bring New Features to iOS, Android and BlackBerry

DropBox is a very handy service that allows you to easily transfer files and documents between your desktop and a mobile device. Redsn0w Also Jailbreaks iOS 4.2

Redsn0w 0.9.6b1 generally supports iOS 4.0 and iOS 4.1 for jailbreaking. We also hear today from Musclenerd on Twitter that it can also jailbreak iOS 4.2 beta 1 if you point it at the 4.1 ipsw.

Since some will try it anyway: this redsn0w will also JB 4.2beta1 by pointing it at the 4.1 ipsw, but it’s *very* broken (flickers, etc)

Although it does jailbreak iOS 4.2, reading the above message shows that you probably don’t want to use it right now due to the flickers and other various problems. As it was described as “*very* broken”, we think you should just leave this alone for now if you have installed the latest beta of iOS 4.2 on your iPad. [Read more…]

Google Docs Editing Coming to iPad

There’s good news for iPad owners who want the ability to edit Google Docs documents whilst on the move, as Google [GOOG] is releasing Google Docs for the iPad that will allow documents to be edited and perhaps created.

This ability is already available in the web based version, but to be honest, it’s quite bad and jumps in to a basic mode where you need to click edit on each row to edit the data. It’s really not up to scratch and feels clunky and is frustrating to use.

It appears that the application is for the iPad only, but it could also include the iPhone and iPod touch as well at a later date. [Read more…]

Apple Patent Reveals Accessory Transceiver for iPod

Interesting information can be found whilst looking at patents filed. The latest we came across today comes from Apple [AAPL] that reveals plans for an accessory transceiver. The accessory transceiver could be used in the iPod touch which would effectively give it the ability to make phone calls and receive text messages.

It is believed that the device could act like the Peel case we wrote about a while back that you basically put your iPod inside to give it a mobile phone signal.

The device is not intended for just the iPod though and could potentially be used for the iPhone its self. You’re probably wondering at this point, why you’d want to add mobile phone functionality to a mobile phone… well, Apple also indicate that CDMA could be part of the device which would mean you could then use your iPhone on a different network to a GSM network.
