Opera Mobile for Android Coming Soon with Pinch to Zoom

Opera is launching the Opera Mobile Browser for Android smartphones within the next month. The new browser will launch with pinch to zoom on Android with more features being added over time, such as hardware acceleration.

Pinch to zoom, if you are not familiar with it, allows users to zoom in to a webpage at incremental levels while pinching or pulling their fingers apart on the screen. iOS 4.2 Beta 3 Download Now Available

Apple [AAPL] has released the iOS 4.2 Beta 3 download to developers signifying the release date is getting closer for iPad owners.

The Beta 3 download is available now for developers and can be grabbed from the developers site by logging in with your username and password.

The Beta 3 of iOS 4.2 brings a few new features such as SMS ringtones (for iPhone users) although the AirPlay button that was found in previous betas of 4.2 has now been removed. [Read more…]

Limera1n iOS 4.1 Jailbreak Released

Last time we heard, Geohot had left the iOS jailbreak scene. We now see that he is back and has released Limera1n. Limera1n allows you to jailbreak iOS 4.1 on several devices which includes the iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 3G, iPad, iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G all using 4.0-4.1.

The new iOS 4.1 jailbreak uses a different exploit to what the GreenPois0n jailbreak does and because of this, the team behind GreenPois0n (that uses SHAtter), have decided to delay the launch so that Apple [AAPL] doesn’t have the opportunity to patch two exploits. [Read more…]

On Twitter a tweet was sent out that said the ETA was 10/10/10 at 10:10:10am.

iPad Sets Record for Fastest Adoption Rate

When Apple [AAPL] first announced the iPad, a number of people said it would fail. However, the iPad has now launched and sales figures show that it was far away from being a failure in that 3.27 million were sold within the first three months of it going on sale.

It took just 28 days to sell the first million. Comparing this number to the original iPhone that took 74 days to sell 1 million, you get the impression that the adoption rate is high.

One analyst says that the iPad has the fastest adoption rate ever although this is based on some estimations. [Read more…]

Sharp Android Phone Gets High Res DIsplay

For those over in Japan, you are about to get a new Android smartphone with the highest resolution of any Android device.

The new device will have an iPhone 4 res style screen that is capable of displaying 960 x 640 pixels. The screen uses IPS type displays that widens the viewing angle to 178 degrees.

iOS 4.1 Unlock for 3GS Baseband 05.14.02 Details Emerge

Last week, details emerged about the 05.14.02 unlock for the iPhone 3GS not being worked on.

It seems now though that a potential unlock can be made for this baseband after some work was done over the weekend by a hacker named Clayton. The exploit found was used to crash the iPhone 3GS and it is expected now that an unlock could emerge from this work. [Read more…]

Apple TV Jailbreak Video Demonstration

It was confirmed a few days ago that the SHAttered tool can be used to jailbreak iOS 4.1 that is loaded on to the new generation Apple TV.

A video demonstration of this happening has now been uploaded to YouTube and shows a user logging in to the Apple TV and running commands as root.

SHAtter is a low level exploit that manages to break in to the Apple TV and other iOS 4.1 devices through a hardware issue. What this means is that Apple will not be able to patch the hole unless a new version with modified hardware ships. [Read more…]
