Matthew Key of O2 has confirmed that Apple [AAPL] iPhones on the O2 network that are out of contract or over a year old for PAYG will be able to have them unlocked so they can be used on any network.
For those out of contract the unlock service will be free, whereas those with a PAYG iPhone over a year old will need to pay £14.97 for the service.
There is absolutely no truth in that rumour. Once the iPhone becomes available on other UK networks, we will allow O2 customers to unlock their iPhones, although of course they will still need to honour any outstanding contract period they have. At the end of their contract period, they are entirely free to move to another operator though naturally we hope they won’t want to!

Orange have launched a new iPhone app for Orange Wednesdays in the UK. Orange Wednesdays have been running since 2003 and allow those on the Orange network to text a number and get a free 2 for 1 voucher for use in cinemas across the UK every Wednesday of the year.
We recently revealed that Orange were to start selling the Apple [AAPL] iPhone on November 10 that would see O2’s exclusivity end on the high priced device. Up until now we had no idea what Orange would charge with some suggesting pricing would be kept about the same but with extra’s thrown in like better plans, cases and Bluetooth headsets. Official pricing has now been revealed that will see the iPhone 3GS being available for free on a 24 month contract at £45/month. Alternatively if you opt for an iPhone 3G 8GB model then you can have it for free at £30/month for 24 months.
Toyota have released a new iPhone app that attempts to educate as well as advertise the features of the Prius car… in particular it’s Draw feature is the funkiest as it allows you and your iPhone to interact with a large screen over in Times Square New York. When you have downloaded the application you load it up and draw on the screen. Your drawings are then thrown up on to the huge screen and mixed with the Prius. Although I say it’s the funkiest part of the app, admittedly it’s not that amazing, but still kind of cool in a weird way.
In the last few days we have seen a number of places mention that Apple have shipped a new iPhone 3G S that has the boot ROM finally fixed to block the 24kpwn exploit. Many people knew it wouldn’t be long before this was also hacked, and funnily enough, it has.
The iPhone has received another application that puts Expose type functionality on to the iPhone. As the application isn’t official or approved, it had to be put on their through other means, ie, a Jailbroken phone.
