Acer Aspire 5738PG 3D Laptop

acer-3d-laptop_AsLIb_54Acer are launching what they claim to be the worlds first 3D laptop. It is named the Acer Aspire 5738PG and allows you to view both 2D movies and photos as 3D content. Also, games will have the ability to run in 3D if they support DirectX 9 and above.

The downside of all this is that you will still have to wear the funky glasses pictured above. If that isn’t a problem for you then your good to go. The 3D effect works by Acer using an in-house software application along with a special coating over the screen. By using the polarized glasses it gives a 3D effect.

Acer calls the new system “TriDef 3D Experience” and the special coating seems to be where most of the work is done. The coating attaches to the screen panel pixel by pixel and by using the filtered polarised glasses you get to see the images from a slightly different angle in each eye to give the effect. Latest Apple iPhone 3G S Firmware Jailbreaked

Apple-iPhone-3G-S-JailBreakIn the last few days we have seen a number of places mention that Apple have shipped a new iPhone 3G S that has the boot ROM finally fixed to block the 24kpwn exploit. Many people knew it wouldn’t be long before this was also hacked, and funnily enough, it has.

The new boot ROM doesn’t actually prevent the 24kpwn exploit from working, but instead just added an obstacle in the path that the hackers have now managed to get around. There is a downside though in that to boot your device the phone needs to be tethered to your computer. However, this will probably be sorted in a few weeks just like the iPod Touch with the similar issue was. [Read more…]

LG GW520 Review

LG-GW520-keyboardWe recently received the LG GW520 phone for review. The GW520 has a 2.8 inch touchscreen along with a full QWERTY slide out keyboard making it ideal for social networking and messaging. A number of modern phones have virtual keyboards that work well, but for some people they just cannot get to grips with on on-screen keyboard and hence, prefer the physical keyboard instead.

Priced at £169.95 for a pay-as-you-go version the GW520 is at a good price for what you get. It’s not the cheapest of phones but at the same time, it’s not the most expensive, and sits in an affordable bracket.

The phone it’s self feels a little plastic in comparison to LG’s high end phones such as the LG BL40. Also the phone is slightly fatter than other LG phones due to the physical keyboard, however this doesn’t make it an oversized phone and it does sit quite well in your hands. [Read more…]

HTC Touch Diamond2 Review

HTC-Touch-Diamond2-homeThe HTC Touch Diamond2 is a Windows based phone that runs the Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system (can be upgraded to the new Windows Phone – WM 6.5 OS). It was launched earlier this year although we still thought we would take a look considering it can run the latest Windows Phone operating system.

The new Diamond2 is a little larger than the original HTC Touch Diamond smartphone although we are only talking a few mm on each of the dimensions that make it 108 x 53 x 13.7mm in size. The phone it’s self looks sleek with the smooth front face surrounded by a by a thin bezel around the edges. On the front of the device you’ll find 4 buttons below the screen allowing you to send/end calls along with a dedicated Windows key and a back key. Just above those keys there is a touch sensitive scroll strip to be found. A forward facing camera can also be found allowing you to make video calls where the network permits. [Read more…]

TXTBlocker Stops Texting While Driving

TXTBlockerTXTBlocker is a system that prevents a mobile phone from sending a text while the phone is detected as moving. It is designed for parents and employers to ensure the safety of others while they are driving. The service is subscription based and allows the subscriber to set certain situations where text messaging and phone calls cannot be made.

The system works by using cell and GPS data to locate the location and travel speed of a phone. If the phone is determined to be in a car then service is limited.

Although it might prevent accidents from happening I can see it being a bit of a pain to deal with as you might be travelling by train or bus and suddenly be unable to use your phone. The system does allow for passenger functions which allow the phone to be used if a passenger is using it, but this is only permitted through the admin control panel. [Read more…]
