15 Million Want iTunes Cloud Service

Some research was done recently which indicates that 15 million people want the iTunes Cloud service. Many of those said they would also pay for the service.

The numbers were calculated by polling 3862 iTunes users over the age of 13. 25% of those users said they would want a streaming service option which indicates 13 – 15 million people in the US alone could want to stream music.

Of course we don’t get a truly accurate number from a sample of 3862, but it does show that there is a lot of interest in the service. [Read more…]

iPhone 4 Unlock Getting Closer

We have heard quite a bit about an iPhone 4 jailbreak. We hear that one has successfully been made and that the team are just waiting for Apple [AAPL] to release the next firmware update due out any time now.

Jailbreaking the iPhone 4 is only part of the story for some users though as some people also want to unlock their iPhone 4 so they can use it on other carriers.

Thankfully an unlock for the iPhone 4 has been made by iPhone Dev Team member planetbeing. The iPhone 4 unlock is being teased with just the image above and a video below showing it working on the Bell network in Canada. Some users will point out that AT&T locked iPhones already can roam Bell and this is correct. However, with the information coming from planetbeing, it is likely to be correct. [Read more…]

BMW Support iPod Out on iOS 4

When Apple [AAPL] announced iOS 4 they said a large number of enhancements had been included. These of course include multitasking as well as many other popular features that have been publicly known. Another one of the new features is called iPod Out which appears to have been overlooked somewhat. Thankfully, BMW has an all seeing eye and spotted the new feature allowing them to create quite a decent interface for their cars.

iPod Out is a function that enables an external screen to display and control music playback. Docking an iPhone running iOS 4 for example, could allow a car to have a screen installed and all the iPod controls appear on screen within the car.

BMW will be doing this with their BMW and Mini entertainment systems. The iPod Out function works on any iOS 4 device which includes the iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4 and iPod touch second and third generation. [Read more…]

Microsoft want to Study iPad Users

Microsoft [MSFT] is looking for iPad users to join them at the MS Campus so the company can study how people use the iPad. In particular the company is looking for students to watch for a couple of hours so they can study how students interact with the iPad and how they work with it.

The information comes from a Facebook event page which asks users to visit the MS campus between July 16 and July 21 for the study. Each user will be watched for two hours and in return, they will get some sort of MS gift which we are guessing is an older Zune. [Read more…]

Windows Phone Live offers Remote Wipe and Location Tracking

The Windows Steam Blog is pushing out some content today. We have heard a few things from them today including the Windows Phone Developer Tools beta launch.

What we hear now in their latest post is that Windows Phone Live will offer remote wipe capabilities as well as the ability to track the location of the phone. The Windows Phone Live website will allow two sets of functions to be performed. The first set handles the syncing of data with the cloud such as pictures, contracts and any other data that you store on the device. The second function handles the phone hardware whereby you can activate the GPS if the device is lost, perform remote wipes as well as lock it, ring it and interact with the phone in a way to help it be returned to it’s owner. Google Android Market to Hit 100,000 Apps this Month

The graph shown here represents the number of Android apps being launched in the Market Place over time.

As you can see, the number is increasing rapidly and it is expected that this month (July) there will be over 100,000 apps in total in the app store. Right now there are over 90,000 apps. A year ago that number was closer to 7000. Growth rate looks to be accelerating also.

A second graph found on Android Lib shows that every month in the last year has seen more and more apps approved. Last month was the highest month with 15288 apps being added. This month in the first 12 days is already at 9163 which indicates almost 24,000 apps could be added this month. [Read more…]

iPhone 4 FaceTime Adverts Launched

Apple [AAPL] has decided it’s time to promote FaceTime a little more than previously. FaceTime is part of the iPhone 4 and lets iPhone 4 users make video calls to other iPhone 4 users over WiFi networks. Apple seem to claim they invented video calling although other devices have had video calling abilities over 3G networks going on 7 years now.

Anyway, the FaceTime adverts show users what FaceTime can do and why you’d want to use it. The ads are very cheesy although we’ll let you decide if you think they are cheesy or not. You can view the four new adverts below… [Read more…]

iPhone 4 Jailbreak Teased by Geohot

Another iPhone 4 jailbreak is being teased. This time it’s done by Geohot who has provided jailbreaks in the past.

The downside right now is that the iPhone 4 jailbreak probably wont come from Geohot for some reason that we are not sure of.

The picture above simply had an opening line of text saying… “Got one of these in the mail today and figured I’d give it a shot.” [Read more…]

Android Gaining Popularity

The OS from Google [GOOG] called Android is making quite an impact in the smartphone arena.

Numbers indicated that the Android platform grew 44 percent between February and May. The three months prior to that saw Android taking about 9 percent share of the US smartphone market. With the Android OS growing 44 percent the three months after that, the market share jumped up to 13 percent.

Thirteen percent isn’t a huge number, but at the same time the four percent increase over a quarter shows the rate at which Android is moving. If the growth rate keeps up, which it can due to the sheer number of high end handsets being launched, then this time next year will show Android with a larger market share. [Read more…]

iPhone 4 Jailbreak Could be Causing iOS 4.0.1 Delays

The new iOS 4.0.1 (or whatever it’s called) could be delayed due to the iOS 4 jailbreak that is pending release.

It appears that Apple [AAPL] need a little more time to figure out the security hole to prevent the jailbreak from working. The information doesn’t come from an official source though and instead comes from a tweet of someone who spoke to an Apple [AAPL] store worker…

Guy in Apple Lakeside seems 2 think 4.0.1 is delayed as they r doing a fix 2 stop jailbreak that they have found. Dunno if true?

iPhone 4 International Release Coming Soon

Apple [AAPL] launched the iPhone 4 just a few weeks ago in five countries with promise of more countries getting it in the near future. It seems that the next list of countries is getting closer as Movistar in Spain has indicated that the iPhone 4 will be available on it’s network on Wednesday July 28.

The information comes from a series of tweets sent out from the official Movistar twitter account.

It isn’t 100% certain that the release date is set in stone as Apple are the ones who will make the official announcement. But we suspect by this time next week, if the tweets are true, that those in Spain will be able to pre-order the iPhone 4. [Read more…]
