Next Android Version to be Called Froyo

The next version of Android has been given a name. The next version that follows on from Eclair will be Froyo which is short for Frozen Yoghurt.

The version name was given on the Engadget Show a couple of days ago and although we now know the name, we do not know the version number. All we know at the moment is that Android 2.1 is still part of Eclair. With all this in mind we might see Froyo arriving sometime this year based on how quick 1.5 to 1.6 to 2.0 to 2.1 progressed. iPhone iSketch Application Launched

iSketch is a new iPhone app that was developed by an 11 year old called Cameron. The iSketch application was written so that a portion of it’s earnings could be sent to the Mattel Childrens Hospital UCLA in Westwood and Santa Monica.

There are a few things interesting here though, the first is that an 11 year old managed to create what looks to be a great little app, and secondly that it was approved. Both are challenges in themselves. [Read more…]

Sony VAIO Z Series gets Quad SSD

We first mentioned the Sony VAIO Z Series notebook a few weeks ago around the time of CES. Sony today pushed out a press release that gives a few more details about the notebook and also when it will be showing up in Europe.

First off, the specs. The VAIO Z Series will come with a Quad SSD that’s configured in a RAID 0 setup. Having a quad SSD RAID 0 configuration allows for data to be shifted up to 6.2 times quicker than a 5,400 HDD configured in an array. The 6.2 speed increase (potentially) should make it one very quick notebook where accessing data is concerned. Also the VAIO Z supports an Intel Core i7-620M processor (depending on the model you choose) along with a healthy 6GB of DDR3 memory.

A second unique point about the VAIO Z series is the high performance dynamic hybrid graphics system it uses. The notebook basically has two options to switch between an NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M GPU for when performance is needed and when not you can manually or automatically switch down to a lower spec Intel based configuration which we assume is done real-time. Motorola MILESTONE Rooted

The Motorola MILESTONE has now been rooted thanks to a group of hackers. The root follows just a few weeks behind the US version (the DROID) and now allows a bunch of applications to be installed and used that don’t work on stock ROMS.

Applications that can now run include wireless tethering, various sense clones as well as the ability to use and install various ROMS other than the official ones provided by the carriers.

The hack was able to be made thanks to a flaw in Android 2.0 that was exploited. [Read more…]

A number of rumours about the next gen iPhone have been floating around over the last few months. Similar to the Apple iSlate roundup picture we posted last week, the iPhone 4G rumours roundup covers all rumours and their potential of actually happening measured in percent.

The image shows the back and front of the phone. On the back the rumours include a glowing Apple logo which is marked as low as possible at just 1% chance of happening. Other features on the back include an LED flash, 5 megapixel camera, touch sensitive case, full metal unibody case and a removable battery. [Read more…]

I doubt the iMac all in one is going to be announced at the Apple event next week, but perhaps we will see the new iMac launched later on this year.

Production of the 22 inch iMac will go to Quanta and Sintek Photronic are apparently supplying the touchscreens for the unit. [Read more…]
