The Puma Phone

The PUMA phone was on display at MWC this year in Barcelona and seems to tackle a few things differently to other mobile phones. First off, it’s back battery cover is covered in a solar panel that allows the phone to be charged by sun light. This allows you to leave the AC adapter at home and always have a chargeable device in your pocket. Secondly, the phone is small and aimed at those who enjoy sports.

The phone it’s self looks quite good. It’s quite a small device that houses a 2.8 inch touchscreen. The phone weighs 115g and measures 102mm x 56mm x 13mm. The small sized phone is specifically made that way too as the phone is aimed at being a “sports” phone that allows you to time, track and keep tabs on your sports activities. [Read more…]

Google Android Phones – 60,000 Per Day Ship

Google [GOOG] seem to be doing very well at the moment with the Android operating system and the phones it ships on. Figures revealed recently by the Google CEO, Eric Schmidt show that about 60,000 phones running Android are shipping every single day.

At the rate of 60K per day that equates to about 5.4 million handsets per quarter which is a decent amount of handsets. Although it’s still some way behind the Apple [AAPL] iPhone in terms of sales per quarter (which are at 8.7 million), it’s still a huge chunk considering the amount of time they have been shipping vs the iPhone. Spoke-less Bicycle

Mechanical Engineering students at Yale have managed to create a Spokeless Bicycle. The bike uses a wheel that has teeth around the inner side of the rim that mesh with gears attached to the bicycle. By offering a spokeless set of wheels the space can be used for other functions such as a generator to be attached to the bike.

You might have noticed that only the back wheel is spokeless. This was done for a number of reasons some of which are cost in developing a wheel without spokes as well as the time to create the bike. The students only had one semester to work on the prototype. [Read more…]

XPAL Solar Egg Charger – 4 Hour Charge on Indirect Sunlight

XPAL have created a new solar charger that is capable of reaching full charge in just four hours. What makes the XPAL solar charger more impressive is that the four hour charge can be achieved in indirect sunlight where as other chargers rely on direct sunlight to charge.

The system uses what it calls “magic SunBoost solar conversion technology” that uses medium levels of natural light to charge the device. That particular technology was created by a company called Intivation who are based in the Netherlands.

So that the XPAL Solar Egg charger functions more it has the ability to detect what type of device it is connected to and can change the output to not waste energy. An example could be an MP3 player that requires less power than a digital camera to charge. [Read more…]

Doodle Track Slot-less Cars

Doodle Track Cars are similar to Slot Cars although they travel at a lower speed and don’t run in slots. Instead, you simply doodle a track on a large sheet of paper and let the cars follow the track.

The downside of Doodle Track Cars are that you don’t control them as they just sit and follow your doodled track. If you don’t want to sketch a course on to paper then the other option is to create a track in the software and print it out on to multiple bits of paper stuck together. [Read more…]

Windows 7 users who are still using the RC version launched early last year should now be preparing to get the full version of Windows 7 on their system.
