Nokia N8-00 Smartphone Spotted

Back in early February we mentioned details that had leaked about a Nokia N8 smartphone which was expected to have 720p capabilities and a 12 megapixel camera. A few pictures have now leaked with what we believe to be the Nokia N8-00 device.

The phone is believed to have a 3.5 inch capacitive touchscreen, a 12 megapixel camera with the usual Carl Zeiss optics lens and a HDMI output to play the 720p content stored on it. Another post indicates the screen could be closer to 4 inches rather than 3.5 inches, but we have no official word on that.

The phone is believed to run the new Symbian ^3 OS and from what we see on the pictures it’s a touchscreen phone only with no slide-out QWERTY keyboard. [Read more…]

SanDisk 32GB microSDHC Card Starts Shipping

SanDisk (NASDAQ: SNDK) have started shipping the worlds highest capacity microSDHC card that can store 32GB of data on it.

The microSDHC claims to be the first 32GB capacity card in this format that has shipped. SanDisk also iterate how much capacity 32GB actually is and compares it to 35 round-trips between San Francisco and New York if filled with music. That’s an impressive amount of data that can be stored.

The memory card is starting to ship today, comes with a 5 year warranty and has a suggested retail price of $199.99 which is lower than I expected for a card of this capacity. I also suspect when Amazon picks them up they will also drop a little further in price maybe to the $190 range. [Read more…]

Information about how it achieves the 3D effect without glasses has arrived (not officially though) which says it will use a parallax barrier LCD screen built by Sharp. Opera Mini now Awaiting Approval for the Apple App Store

After what seems like a long wait, Opera Mini has now been submitted to the Apple App store for approval. If approved it will bring a very fast mobile browsing experience to the Apple [AAPL] iPhone. Speed tests indicate that pages load up to five times faster than the current standard Safari browser that comes supplied with every iPhone.

The mobile phone browser achieves the high speed by doing server side compression before the page is downloaded. The Opera Mini servers are capable of compressing down images and HTML by up to 90% before the data is transmitted to the phone. This saves both the time it takes to download the page as well as using far less amounts of data saving money in some situations. [Read more…]

Apple MacBook Pro getting an Update? – Lack of Supplies Could Indicate it

A number of people are waiting for Apple [AAPL] to update the Apple MacBook Pro. Last week it was reported that Intel had a lack of chips which could be a contributing factor to the delays of the much anticipated update.

Reports have also said recently that MacBook Pro supplies have suddenly become constrained which could also indicate a huge lack of chips problem, or perhaps that they are selling off the last bits of stock they have to launch the next iteration of the MacBook Pro. We obviously hope for the latter as will many other readers.

One reader of MacRumors decided to email Steve Jobs about his concerns… [Read more…]
