Another rumour is going around about the iPad 2 release date. We have heard previously that a new iPad will be launched in November this year, then it was December and now it is end of Q1 2011.
Most people expect that Apple [AAPL] will release the iPad 2 based on how the iPhone and iPod touch gets updated, which is generally yearly. This would make it an early April launch for the iPad 2 which means Digitimes isn’t that far out with it’s guess. [Read more…]
The Times is reporting that the Samsung Galaxy Tab will also have the option of installing Chrome OS when it launches. Although this is believed to be an option, it isn’t one that will be supported out of the box. Instead, you’ll need to do the update yourself.
It is recommended that those wanting to use Chrome OS on the Galaxy Tab consult a professional before the update, and perhaps even have someone who knows what they are doing perform the update as it isn’t simply a task of selecting the OS and installing it, a lot of changes need to be made to get it on there. Seems like progress is being made with the iOS 4.1 jailbreak. The Chronic Dev-Team is behind this one who posted a very brief update on the GreenPois0n tool that they are launching.
The tool is designed to jailbreak all iOS 4.1 devices as well as past versions of iOS.
Many people in the comments are asking for a progress update. Any kind of update that we could actually give would be too technical for anyone to understand anyway, not to mention potentially reveal the exploit. Just know that things are going swimmingly and we are working as hard as we can.
An XDA Developers user has managed to grab a full Android build from the new HTC Desire HD. The build isn’t final yet although it is a full build.
A warning does accompany the thread that basically says, don’t use the ROM on any device as it hasn’t been modified to work on other devices. It then goes on to request that the chefs start cooking up ROMs for devices such as the HTC HD2. [Read more…]
The Einstein Project is expanding further and will be soon pushing out a Newton OS emulator app for the iPhone. The Einstein Project has been running since 2004 and has a goal of bringing the Newton OS (from Apple) on to various platforms. As the iPhone is believed by some to be the grandson of the Newton, it kind of makes sense that the old Newton OS should be made compatible with the iPhone.
The team behind it has managed to get it working (as seen in the video below). The Newton OS on iPhone is running a little slow at the moment although speed increases are expected over the coming months.
We also hear that Newton OS will be made compatible with the iPod touch and iPad through emulation. It isn’t clear if Apple [AAPL] will approve the app, and it is likely that they might not. However, if it does go ahead then it would be worth grabbing it just for fun and to see how the old Apple tablet worked around 20 years ago. [Read more…]
Yesterday, the Napster iPhone App landed in the app store. The software allows you to listen to a choice of over 10 million full length songs as often as you like.
The application its self is free to download although the Napster service you will use does have a subscription cost of $10/month.
The Napster app lets you save songs, playlists and albums so that you can listen to music while your phone is off line or in a bad signal area. The app is also able to run in the background on iOS 4 so that you can work with other apps while listening to music. [Read more…]

Could Facebook really be concieving the idea of a ‘Facebook’ smart phone?? Quite possibly, though many people (including facebook themselves) have denied these rumors.

Spokesperson Jaime Schopflin revealed the following in a statement to Mashable:
“The story, which originated in Techcrunch, is not accurate. Facebook is not building a phone. Our approach has always been to make phones and apps more social. Current projects include include everything from an HTML5 version of the site to apps on major platforms to full Connect support with SDKs to deeper integrations with some manufacturers. Our view is that almost all experiences would be better if they were social, so integrating deeply into existing platforms and operating systems is a good way to enable this. For an example, check out Connect for iPhone and the integration we have with contact syncing through our iPhone app. Another example is the INQ1 phone with Facebook integration (the first so-called ‘Facebook Phone’). The people mentioned in the story are working on these projects. The bottom line is that whenever we work on a deep integration, people want to call it a ‘Facebook Phone’ because that’s such an attractive soundbite, but building phones is just not what we do.”
The Wifi variants of the Apple iPad went on sale in China just last week. We now hear from Apple [AAPL] that the iPhone 4 will be landing this Saturday the 25th.
Retail stores will be optning up at 8am in China allowing customers to pick up a 16GB iPhone 4 for 4,999 CNY ($745 USD) or a 32GB model for 5,999 CNY ($893 USD). [Read more…]
The GV Mobile + app has finally been accepted in to the Apple app store.
The application allows users in the US to make Google Voice calls from an iPhone. The app does work in other countries from what we understand although certain modifications are needed to the settings to get it working.

Owners of the Motorola XT720 Android smartphone will be getting an upgrade shortly that will re-clock the 550MHz CPU up to 720MHz. This speed increase is said to make the smartphone more snappy and capable of running a lot smoother.
As well as increasing the CPU speed the update also adds DLNA compatibility that allows you to stream media to compatible gadgets if you so wish. [Read more…]
Back in June we wrote a post that said that the HTC Desire may be getting itself the new Android 2.2 update around June time, but we did also say that this date was not set in stone… The SIM free update came just after, early in August. This was followed by the update for Vodafone users. Now that we’re in September, T-Mobile has finally started to push out the Android 2.2 update.
Quite why other mobile devices such as Sony Ericssons’ Xperia X10 are still left out of the loop is anyone’s guess and as soon as we here anything else we’ll let you know.
