Hot or Not – Steampunk Arm

Steampunk ArmWe have written about a couple of Steampunk gadgets before. These were the Steampunk Nerf Maverick Gun and a Steampunk Furnace Mouse. Both look cool and this next one is no exception. I have to admit that it’s not something I would ever wear to a party, but it is still quite cool to see.

For those who are not familiar with what Steampunk is, it is the process of building a modern day gadget type object with a Victorian look and normally made or brass, wood and other materials commonly used in that era.

Ghostbusters Voice Changer

Ghostbusters Voice ChangerGhostbusters is a film that most people will remember from the 1980’s. One of the popular items the ghostbusters used was the ghost trap which captured ghosts such as slimer so they could take them back to HQ and store them safely. This item above lacks a bit of information, but from what I understand it’s connected to a long cord and works as a speaker housing. It must rank as one of the most bizarre looking speakers I have ever seen.

Homemade Chalkboard Globe

Chalkboard Globe
Sometimes a chalkboard is just not enough. Some want to write on the world and have a globe to store their ideas. However, I doubt anyone has ever seen a globe chalkboard for sale. MakeZine have created their own by using a regular classroom globe, chalkboard paint, Spackle, newspapers, Gesso and a coat hanger.

Other home made versions of this include blue paint where the sea is and the globe is then used for educational purposes in which the students need to mark on the globe all the different places around the world.

How to put to good use your AOL CD’s

CD LampNow that a great number of people own MP3 players there is a tendency for your old CD’s to gather dust. Old music from the 90’s was ripped to your computer and since then, you have never touched the CD. Why not make better use of your old CD’s and build a lamp just like this guy did. It was built from a massive amount of CD’s that had gathered in his room which were then put together on a circular base. The base was cut using a template on a table saw, sanded and then a cold cathode lamp from NewEgg was chosen to light the thing up.

If you do not have many old music CD’s then hopefully you have kept all those ISP junk CD’s that bombarded you several years ago.

Pneumatic Confetti Cannon

pneumatic-confetti-cannon
The confetti cannon might be a tad on the large side for carrying to the next wedding, but it can be used for a number of things such as stage shows, parties and events where confetti needs to be launched in no time at all. The Confetti Canon is custom built from a fire extinguisher, pipes, hoses, an air compressor and a bunch of other parts. Rather then going in to detail of how to make it you can check out the full build instructions over at Modd3d.

Small Nintendo DS with working Game

tiny-paper-nintendo-ds-lite
This Nintendo DS Lite is supposed to be the smallest one ever crafted. It is made of paper and is just 1.4 inches long. The hinge is made from a tooth pic and the Nintendogs game actually fits inside of it.

If you are a dab hand with the paper and scissors then feel free to follow this template and make your own.

R2D2 Ring – Very Unique

R2D2 Ring
This ring is certainly one of a kind. It features a bizarre mixture of a size 6 ring, metal wire, a love heart and R2D2 from Starwars. I personally do not get the connection but I am sure someone will snap up this one time offer over at Etsy.

G3 Tower burns 7 CDs at a Time

Power Tower Pro CD Burning
Maybe you enjoy making 7 backups of your data, or maybe you want to be more of a pirate either way, this is quite cool. John Masone has hacked up a G3 Blue and White Tower to create a tower which is capable of burning 7 CD’s at a time. If you still have a need to mass burn CD’s then this is ideal for you. It can rip CD’s at the drives maximum speed and then is capable of burning to the 7 drives in compressed MP3 or similar formats. The case uses metal caging which has been hacked in to the original tower which now allows the 7 drives to sit comfortably.

If you want a ton of your old CD’s ripping then you should give John a shout 😉

Sky Fi is a company which recycles old broken equipment. They spend time repairing, building, altering, engineering and even Frankensteining the equipment which then allows you to connect an iPod or similar device. As each product is recycled there are no two similar units available. The one pictured above can be purchased for $75 over at Etsy. The device pictured above uses the phono input to interface with your iPod or any other more modern signal. The sound quality is described as being transistor tubish from yesteryear.
