Opal Concept Car

opel_e_flex_concept
Opal have created a cool little concept car which runs by battery. It can do just over 60 miles on its lithium ion batteries and there is a small diesel engine which also can recharge them. With both working together you can get around 500 miles out of it. The engine is a 1.3L turbo diesel engine which can run up to 3200rpm. Another cool feature is the ability to store two segways in the back which are constantly on charge. When you arrive at your destination you just whip them out and cruise along.

Mickey Mouse MP3 Player from iRiver

iriver_mPlayer-pink
This MP3 player is a concept idea that is based on a Mickey Mouse design. It is built in Korea and is 3cm in diameter and weighs 17 grams. Compatible formats are all the regular ones such as MP3, 1, 2, WMA, ASF, WMA. A unique feature of this MP3 player is the twist mode which allows you to change volume by twisting the mouses left ear. By twisting the other ear you can skip tracks. To skip through a track you can twist and hold the ear.

Its kind of a bizarre MP3 player that if sold at a good price it would be great for kids.

zBoost ZPersonal Cell Phone Booster

zBoost
Have you ever found yourself out and about with your mobile phone and just cannot quite get the signal you need? I am lucky where I live in that I am in a busy area with full 3G and video coverage, but go back a week… while visiting family it was a real pain having next to no signal in the home. Every call dropped, most calls went to voicemail with out even ringing my phone. I basically had to step out to the garden to make my calls. This kind of situation is where a zBoost could come in handy. The zBoost is a portable device which boosts mobile phone signals in a small area. The zBoost ZPersonal measures about 4 x 5 inches in size and fastens on to a window with 2 suction cups. You then attach the long cable which has an antenna on the end which measures about 6 inches long. The long cable allows you to move the antenna close to where you make the majority of calls from and the mobile signal gets boosted from where the box is to where the antenna is which creates your own personal cell phone area.

The concept is a cool idea and comes in handy for situations like I mentioned earlier. There are a few downsides though. This device must have a signal to work which is kind of obvious as it wont boost nothing. If you have a faint signal then it does occasionally do what it is supposed to. Al over at CIO.com gave the zBoost a full review and found that the device was a little inconsistent. Sometimes the signal was boosted and other times it was not. Another down side is that it only plugs in to an outlet on a wall and cannot be powered by USB or from your car lighter. Other then that, if you have a power outlet and need a signal boost then this could work well for you if you get it set up right.

Touchscreen Concept Phone

touchscreen-phone
This concept idea from Yanko design uses a touchpad which slides out from the phone. It uses handwriting recognition and allows for a finger or stylus to write direct on to it. Its not something I see ever really going in to production as it seems like a touch screen would save far more space and be a lot cooler to have.

Concept Brix Phone

Brix
The guys over at Yankodesign bring us another cool concept idea. This time it is the Brix phone in which the whole surface acts as a screen. To make it even better, the brix phones are capable of being connected together to make larger screens as pictured above. When connecting them together, one of them acts as the media hub for all devices. According to the designers there will be no limit to how many can be connected together and the restriction is only based on how many people you actually know who have them. Seems like a good idea although I think flexible displays will move quicker then this.

Sony-Ericsson PSP Concept

sony-ericsson-psp-phone-concept
Over the last year I have heard a couple of rumors floating about regarding the Sony PSP mobile phone. Currently the ideas are just concept which has inspired the picture above to be created. As can be seen it takes the current Sony Ericsson square looking type phone and includes a large screen and controlls. I am not sure if this concept or any concept will go ahead for the PSP phone, but we can hope for it. The idea could do real well if a cybershot camera, walkman type phone and PSP could be crammed in to the same package. All it would then need is wireless and VoIP and all would be perfect.

Phone that Literally Hangs Up

Hangup Phone
This concept phone is designed to be hung up on your door handle like you would with a do not disturb card in a hotel room. When it is hung on the door handle the weight of the phone pulls down on the handle and it starts the phone charging. Also sitting it on a desk will charge the phone too.

Yankodesign suggests a conference call could see them all linked together like a barrel of monkeys. As this is just concept at the moment, I do not think we will see this type of phone be made available.

Concept Magnetic Levitating Keys on Keyboard

Concept Maglev Keyboard

Concept Keyboard with Floating Keys

The idea behind the concept Magnetic Keyboard is to make for a better natural and constant typing feeling by the use of magnets making each key levitate. The magnets are opposing each other forcing the key to float just above. When pressing the key, it makes contact and records it on screen. According to Embotec who are behind this idea, it is ideal for both typing and gaming. The good news is that it is due out in the second half of this year, so it wont be concept for too long.

Glow Stick Glow Glasses

Glow-stick-glow-glasses
Glow Glasses work on the same concept as a glow stick. They just glow in bright colours to get attention in dark places. To get them to glow you just bend them to break the inside glass ampoules, then shake to mix up the chemicals. Once shaken and glowing you then fix the glasses together and wear them. The glow on the glasses will last around 6 hours.

The glow glasses come with a set of 12 units to build them. The glasses are made of 5 parts. 2 glow sticks in each with 3 plastic parts to hold them together.
