Rumours of a new Nokia N920 [NOK] have surfaced today although we are still waiting for the N900 to arrive. According to Pocketables, they were tipped off by someone who also showed them an early prototype of the phone that looks to be running Diablo.
The phone, according to tipsters, is set to have a 4.13 inch capacitive multitouch screen that will match it up nicely with the HTC HD2. The N920 will not have a keyboard and instead make use of full screen input. AT&T launched the HTC Pure on Sunday which makes the launch a couple of days earlier than the official release of October 6 tomorrow. This makes the Pure the first device to be made publicly available that runs the new Windows Phone operating system.
With that in mind, Microsoft now actually have the latest Marketplace ready and waiting to go which allows you to download applications just as you do on Android, iPhone, Nokia and WebOS smartphones. Marketplace’s or app stores depending on what OS you are using are fantastic as they allow you to browse through a catalogue of games and applications that can be downloaded and easily installed over the air. SlashGear have reported that Nokia will join the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) which means we will start seeing Nokia phones starting to use wireless charging features. Wireless charging is extremely handy as you generally plug in a charging mat in to the wall then any compatible devices that are sat on the mat are charged wirelessly. This saves the messy tangle of wires that you find behind your desk. However, there is a problem with wireless charging compatibility as not all devices are compatible which kind of ruins the point of it.
The Wireless Power Consortium was designed to bring a standard to wireless charging. When members sign up they agree to use a standard so that their devices can be charged on other members mats and vice versa. With Nokia signing up for the standard its a step in the right direction. Nokia have created a cool little app to assist those who are blind or visually impaired with reading text messages on their mobile phone.
The Nokia Braille Reader application sits in the background and when a text message is received the application automatically loads up. When a part of the screen is tapped the message is then relayed to the user through a series of vibrations. When a dot is raised the phone vibrates sharply and when the dot is not raised a less forceful vibration is felt. Each dot is played one at a time with 6 dots creating each letter. Nokia have hinted that there will be more Nokia Booklet 3G’s on the way and have said it’s not the only one of it’s kind. The comments came from Nokia Conversations where users were providing feedback and one of the Nokia Booklet team was seen to say… ‘Great feedback here! Thanks! As you may imagine, balancing portability, power, performance, price and whatever other “p” you can think of to build a winning product is as much art as science.
While we think we have a great first product (and hope you try it and agree), I would be the first to admit that we can do more. So rest assured that your input has been duly noted, and we will do our best to live up to your expectations. Please keep the suggestions coming. Best Regards, John’
The Nokia Booklet was only just announced last month and already they are planning the next device. Of course, there isn’t loads you can do to a netbook other than making it look a little nicer, having a slightly larger keyboard and give it a little more power, memory etc… but it’s great to see that they are running with the Booklet. Could we next see a Nokia Booklet Tablet? [click to continue…]
