Next Gen Apple TV Announced

Apple [AAPL] had a big line up of product launches today. One of them was the Apple TV that attempts to revamp the older Apple TV service.

Design wise, the Apple TV is 80 percent smaller than the previous model which launched in 2006. The new version has a built in power supply, HDMI, Wifi and an Ethernet port. It has no fan inside making it run completely silent.

Rather than having storage built in, the Apple TV streams content whenever you need it. This is why it has both wireless N built in or an Ethernet cable for those who prefer the wired approach. Sky Sports & Sky Movies Subscription Prices Increase

Sky is increasing the subscription cost of Sky Movies and Sky Sports shortly. Prices will rise £3/month for Sports and £2.50 for Movies.

This increase is happening just after Sky has made Sky Sports News an exclusive channel to their broadcasting network and having removed it from the other platforms such as Freeview.

Some premium content is also moving to Sky Sports News which will prevent those without a Sky subscription from watching it on other services. [Read more…]

Samsung Galaxy Tab Android Tablet Makes Appearance at FCC

The Samsung Galaxy Tab has appeared on the FCC website. The Galaxy Tab is a new Android tablet device that is being launched at IFA this week.

The FCC provides a few details of the device such as the model number which is the SHW-M180S with the description listed as being a “1900 GPRS Mini-Tablet with Bluetooth and WLAN,”.

Reports show that it has wireless which connects up to 802.11a/b/g/n networks along with Bluetooth and 1900 GPRS. No mention of CDMA is present though.

This particular version will not be compatible with Verizon [VZ] although that’s not to say a CDMA compatible version won’t be coming as we have already seen some evidence of this model in the last few days.

We’ll keep an eye on things and look out for the launch tomorrow when the Samsung Galaxy Tab will be unveiled at IFA.

Motorola MILESTONE 2 to Arrive in Europe

Motorola has announced that the DROID 2 will be heading to Europe as the Motorola MILESTONE 2, like the Motorola DEFY, it will also be “enhanced” with MOTOBLUR. Unfortunately.

The MILESTONE 2 will launch with Android 2.2 installed which also allows for Adobe Flash 10.1 to be run in the browser. The CPU on the MILESTONE 2 is 1GHz and the device features the same slide out keyboard as the DROID 2. Essentially, it’s the same phone but branded slightly different for whatever reason.

Features of the Motorola MILESTONE 2 include the 3G mobile hotspot capabilities that allows for up to five wireless devices to connect up and share the 3G connection. [Read more…]

Motorola Defy Rugged Android OS Phone

Motorola has announced the Motorola DEFY. The DEFY is “enhanced with MOTOBLUR” according to the press release although most people believe that MOTOBLUR should be removed. Either way, it’s an Android based smartphone that is also rugged.

Technical specs show it has a 3.7 inch high resolution touchscreen that is WVGA. A 5 megapixel camera is included that also has a flash, auto focus and digital zoom. In regards to the Android operating system, it is Android 2.1. Nothing else is really revealed about the phone in terms of technical specs although a few features are mentioned in the press release below. [Read more…]

Google Buys Social Deck the Social Games Developer

Google [GOOG] has purchased a social games developer called Social Deck. Social Deck is a company that makes games for both mobile and smartphones which indicates Google are moving in to games development.

The games built by Social Desk are generally multiplayer based that work across networks. Popular devices developed for include the iPhone and BlackBerry smartphones. [Read more…]

DROID X Users who Installed Leaked 2.2 Update get no Official Updates

For those of you who updated to the leaked Motorola DROID X Android 2.2 update, bad news is in store as you wont be able to install the official update when it arrives in a few weeks time.

Motorola has announced that those who manually installed the leaked ROM will be cut out from the official upgrade path. They will provide no way to update to the latest version.

This is quite a big contrast when compared to the HTC EVO 4G which HTC did it’s best to create a patch that would fix the problem of upgrading early. [Read more…]

Hotmail to get Active Sync Support

Hotmail is set to get an update either today, or sometime this week that will bring IMAP to the web based email service.

What this will do is give users the ability to sync up in Outlook with what’s in a hotmail account. This sync will work both ways meaning that any other emails that you have in Outlook could be uploaded to Hotmail and vice versa.

The other sync features work when you send emails or move them around on either the web based version, phone version of in Outlook. Each of them will be able to keep in sync with each other giving you the ability to manage your email from any device you connect via IMAP with. [Read more…]

Nintendo DSi and DSi XL Dropping in Price on September 12

Nintendo has announced that it will be dropping the price of both the Nintendo DSi and the DSi XL over in the US beginning September 12.

Prices will drop down to $149.99 for the DSi and $169.99 for the DSi XL. Price drops over in the UK and Japan have happened already as well as a price drop in Australia a number of months ago.

It seems like the prices are dropping in preparing for the Nintendo 3DS to arrive which could be towards the end of this year or early next year. [Read more…]

Samsung Galaxy S Android 2.2 Update Leaked

It seems like a real build of Android 2.2 for the Samsung Galaxy S has been leaked online. The screen shot above is supposedly taken from a Galaxy S device and shows that it is running Android 2.2 (which also is easy to fake mind you).

A number of smartphones recently have had Android 2.2 builds leaked with all of them being Beta builds with a few things broken. You might want to take this in to consideration if deciding to test the leaked build. [Read more…]

Toshiba Folio 100 – Tegra 2 Based Android Tablet Coming Soon

Toshiba are launching a new tablet. Toshiba have called it a Smart Pad for reasons we don’t know of as it appears to have specs just like a tablet.

The name of it will be the Toshiba Folio 100 if rumours are to be believed although no release date is known at the moment.

Technical specs show that it runs Android 2.2, runs an NVIDIA Tegra 2 and has a 10.1 inch screen that has a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. [Read more…]

Google Real Time Search Engine Features Expanding

Google [GOOG] is expanding the Real Time search features of it’s search engine by launching Google.com/realtime.

The service isn’t fully live yet, but when live will work in a similar way to how the twitter results are embedded in various search query results.

The service will be updated to include updates from Google Buzz, Facebook, MySpace to name a few social networking sites so that when you search for a query that is surging at a current time, such as an earth quake, film release, disaster, mobile phone news etc… you’ll be able to see results of what everybody is talking about online.
