The Apricorn EZ Writer II is a portable optical drive that is ideal for those using netbooks or other devices without a built in optical drive.

It is capable of burning CD’s at up to 24x and DVD’s up to 8x although it isn’t compatible with BluRay discs in any way.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Preview

It’s getting closer to the official announcement of the Samsung Galaxy Tab, yet here we are again with another one captured on camera.

This time the Samsung Galaxy Tab was captured in Korea. It runs Android 2.2, has WCDMA 3G, 802.11n wireless networking and a screen with an aspect ratio of 16:10 that measures 7 inches.

ASUS Eee PC 1015PN and PEM Launching with Dual-Core Atom

ASUS has announced (and then pulled the press release) the ASUS Eee PC 1015PN and PEM models.

The ASUS 1015PEM will be powered by a 1.5GHz N550 CPU. It will support up to 2GB of DDR3 memory and when launched will cost around $440.

The ASIS 1015PN will use the NVIDIA Ion 2 platform and will launch sometime in the US in September. [Read more…]

Canon EOS 60D 18 Megapixel 1080p DSLR Announced

Canon has announced it’s latest Digital SLR camera today. The new camera is the Canon EOS 60D that bring an articulating display, 18 megapixel sensor and the ability to capture video in full HD.

The articulating screen measures 3 inches and is a Vari-Angle Clear View LCD screen that can display 1,040,000 dots. The screen has an anti-reflective coating on it along with smudge resistance. With the screen being articulating it allows pictures to be captured from high up or low down where you can’t look through the view finder.

For the first time on an EOS camera, the EOS 60D DSLR boasts a three-inch Vari-Angle Clear View LCD screen, EOS Full HD video recording with manual overrides including audio level control, and in-camera functionality for RAW image processing plus Creative Filters to manipulate images after taking them. Designed primarily for advanced amateurs, the EOS 60D replaces the EOS 50D and boasts a broad array of new features that make it easier for photographers to add personal creativity to their images. Google Voice Calling in Gmail – Testing in Progress

Google [GOOG] looks to be testing some new features in Gmail that will see the email service turned in to a communications hub. The new services will allow users to make calls with Google Voice direct from the Google Chat interface.

CNET has learned that Google is testing a Web-based service within Gmail that will allow users to place phone calls from their in-boxes. It’s launched from the Google Chat window on the lower left-hand side of a Gmail page and allows users to place and receive calls from within their contacts through a user interface that strongly resembles the one used in Google Voice.

Tablet Dune Windows 7 Slate Appears in Belgium

The Tablet Dune has been revealed. This tablet is a Windows 7 Slate that has been spotted over in Belgium.

Technical specs reveal that it has a 10.2 inch screen (no details of resolution are known yet), and that it runs on an Intel Atom N450 processor that is clocked at 1.67Ghz. Memory wise it has 2GB of DDR 2 and Intel Integrated Graphics are also included.

For storage it has a 160GB 2.5 inch hard drive. There is also plenty of connectivity with wireless 802.11a/b/g/n as well as Bluetooth and optional 3G. A 1.3 megapixel webcam can also be found on the device. [Read more…]

LG C900 Windows Phone 7 on AT&T [T] Gets FCC Approval

The FCC has approved the LG C900 Windows Phone 7 smartphone for use on the AT&T [T] network.

The C900 is a landscape slider phone that has WCDMA bands II and V making it compatible with the AT&T network.

If you remember back to the weekend, the LG C900 was captured showing an AT&T logo on the Windows Phone 7 home screen which indicated a new update of the OS had landed that allowed for a bit of carrier branding. [Read more…]

Dell Aero Android Smartphone Available Today

Dell has today launched the new Dell Aero smartphone. The Aero is an Android based smartphone that has a 3.5 inch screen.

The phone it’s self costs either $299.99 without a contract or $99.99 with a two year agreement with AT&T [T].

The press release makes no mention of which version of Android it is running, but unfortunately we found out that it’s just Android 1.5 for some bizarre reason that we have yet to figure out. There is no mention of any Android 2.1 or 2.2 update in the near future either. [Read more…]

Verizon ZTE Salute Lands

Verizon [VZ] is launching a new phone on to it’s network called the Salute. The Salute is a ZTE handset that is a basic feature phone that comes at a low price.

Technical specs show that it has a 2.4 inch screen and a 1.3 megapixel camera. The handset can go online although we are not sure if the browser works well or not. [Read more…]

Sony Reader Touch Edition Discontinued

Recently, some details of a new Sony Reader were found online which indicated a couple of new models would be incoming.

The Digital Reader is reporting today that the Sony PRS600 has now been discontinued which indicates the previously mentioned PRS-650 model could be incoming soon.

The discontinued status normally appears on a third party website when a retailer tries to order a new batch of that model to sell and is told there are none available. [Read more…]

Samsung Galaxy S Stock Android 2.1 Update Available – Unofficially

It is possible to run a stock Android 2.1 firmware on a Galaxy Samsung S. Reasons for wanting to do this include getting rid of Samsung’s TouchWiz interface which a number of people don’t like.

The Samsung Galaxy S Android 2.1 update isn’t official though. It’s actually a modified version from the official Google [GOOG] Android updates and unfortunately doesn’t allow all features of the phone to work just yet.
