The BBC will be launching a subscription based iPlayer service for those out of the UK. The service will initially be made available to those using the Apple iPad and will then expand out after that.

YouTube Lets you Now Skip Ads

YouTube has added a new feature today that allows you to skip past the TrueView ads that show on some content.

This may seem a little odd and you might expect the advertisers to hate this, but it’s actually the opposite as advertisers at the moment are all for it. Basically, when you start viewing a video that has an ad playing before it, you have a countdown timer that counts from 5 to zero. Once at zero you can click to skip the ad, or not click to view it. Dell Venue Pro Now Available to Order

Dell is now taking orders for the Dell Venue Pro. The Dell Venue Pro is a Windows Phone 7 smartphone that has been well sought after, and finally it looks to be here.. again. It was originally pulled due to some problems with WiFi and mislabeled batteries.

The phone costs $99.99 when signing up for a two year contract. Off contract, it’s priced at $449.99 ($499 for the 16GB model).

Winamp 5.6 for Android Now Official – Wireless Sync Included

Winamp has announced Winamp 5.6 for the desktop. The new version is capable of pairing with the Android OS version and allows users to transfer music wirelessly to and from a mobile device as well as to other functions.

Winamp 5.6 features a new device management interface that supports wireless syncing of media, simple management of multiple connected devices and faster encoding and transferring of media to your devices over USB or WiFi. Stream media from a connected device without the need of transferring media to the local library. Wireless device syncing and streaming only available with Winamp for Android installed.

Windows Phone 7 Sales Numbers Hinted at With Facebook Stats

Microsoft [MSFT] hasn’t released any official numbers yet about how the new Windows Phone 7 operating system is doing. However, WMPowerUser managed to grab some statistics from the WP7 Facebook app that shows how many users are active in using that app.

The graph above shows how many Windows Phone 7 users accessed the service while the second graph shows how many users installed the Facebook All (which is the second most popular app in the app store). [Read more…]

Cowon 3D Media Player Released – Glasses Free

Cowon has released a new portable media player called the Cowon 3D. As the 3D in the name suggests, the media player is capable of displaying 3D content. What makes this one a little more unique is that the 3D effect is glasses free.

The device runs Windows CE 6.0 and has a 4.8 inch 800 x 400 widescreen display. The 3D media player is capable of playing back full 1080p content via the HDMI output. As for storage capacity on this device, it has 64GB. [Read more…]

Symbian Foundation to Take Source Code Offline on Dec 17

PCWorld is reporting today that the Symbian Foundation will be taking the Symbian mobile operating system off line on December 17th. Sony Ericsson X8 Android 2.1 Update

The Sony Ericsson X8 came with just Android 1.6 installed. Sony Ericsson has now announced that Android 2.1 is beginning to roll out to the smartphone although it is going out in various stages rather than all at the same time.

The roll-out is based on serial numbers. Rather than list all the SI numbers, you can visit the Sony Ericsson product blog to get a list of those numbers that are already getting the update. If your phone isn’t listed then you’ll need to wait a little longer. [Read more…]

iPhone Tethering on iOS 4.2.1 Locked on iPhone 3G

Apple launched iOS 4.2.1 at the beginning of this week. Some people running it on an iPhone 3G are reporting issues when the iPhone has been unlocked to use on another network. When doing that, the Internet Tethering option in some cases is removed.
