Secure your car with the Violent Steering Wheel

WORLD’S MOST VIOLENT STEERING WHEEL !!! – video powered by Metacafe

Thieves will have no chance with the violent steering wheel

A guy from Ohio has created a secure steering wheel which when touched it violently spins around making the car impossible to drive away. I am guessing it could also break your wrist depending on how powerful the motor that controls it is. With it being custom built there is no information if any of the car companies would use or want something like this in their cars.

A Look Back to 2001 – iPod Announced

Here is a video of Steve Jobs announcing the iPod back in 2001. When it was launched it had a 5GB hard drive, was just over 3/4 of an inch thick and could store 1000 songs. Battery life was claimed to be 10 hours of continuous play although I know that my 3rd Gen iPod only could handle a few hours so I am not sure if that was true for the 1st gen.

It is interesting to look back to the start of the iPod and see it announced. I wonder if they knew what kind of a gold mine they were sitting on at the time.

Great Little iAudio 7 DAP Player

Cowan iAudio 7
The iAudio 7 DAP player has been released by Cowon. You may have seen them before with the ever creative iAudio 6 player. The screen is just 1.3 inches making the player very small. The screen can be display 260k colours. It now uses flash memory (8GB) rather then the 0.85 inch disk drive in version 6. Support has been added for FLAC and OGG. What impresses me most, other then the looks of the device, is that it has a lithium polymer battery which will last 60 hours. The DAP can be charged via USB which is great if you are out and about travelling. The iAudio 7 player will set you back $246 for the 8GB flash version.

German LCD Shift Knob

Shifter Knob
This gear knob has an LCD display in the top of it to let you know what gear you are in. I am not sure how handy this could be as I cannot remember the last time I actually looked at the gear stick while I was driving. I guess it will appeal to the Fiat Punto or Vauxhall Corsa driver as they like the extra lights and flashy interior more then the average person. But, it does add another gadget to your vehicle so I thought it would be worth a mention.

It is priced at $169 which to be quite honest, is a bit crazy. Never mind, I am going to pass on this one 🙂

The Archos 704 is a widescreen multimedia player which has a 7 inch touchscreen display. Built in is an 80GB hard disk drive, 802.11g wi-fi and stereo speakers. The battery provides 5 hours of continuous video playback. Having wifi access allows you to stream video to and from your TV with a DVR station which is an optional extra. The built in Opera browser also allows you to browse the internet via wifi. Overall it looks like a decent package with a decent 7 inch touchscreen display.

PaceBlade EasyBook P8N

PaceBlade EasyBook P8N
The UMPC (Ultra Mobile PC) is becoming more popular over the last year. As technology is shrinking in size, the creators of these devices are able to use that to make sleek looking devices that are small, very portable and yet fully loaded versions of XP or Vista can be used. The PaceBlade EasyBook P8N is one of these devices which packs in a 1Ghz processor, 1GB of DDR2 memory, 120GB hard disk drive, a large 8.4 inch TFT screen, wifi and bluetooth technology. This particular UMPC will run Windows XP Professional.

The PaceBlade EasyBook is everything you need, but with out the bulk. The touchscreen makes input fairly easy with the on screen keyboard.

FlyBook VM – V33i Video Preview

Flybook VM
The video below shows a couple of laptops at CeBIT which caught my attention today. The Flybook VM is a laptop with an interesting screen attached. Instead of having just the regular hinge that allows you to flip it open, it has a second hinge which allows the screen to be taken away from the main hinge bringing it more to eye level and still allowing access to the keyboard below it This brings it more in to line with a regular flat panel in the office. The VM has built in Bluetooth 2.0, Wifi 802.11 a / b / g, an Intel Core Duo low voltage 1.66Ghz processor, 1Gb of DDR2 memory (upgradable to 2Gb), a 12.1 inch wideview LTPS TFT LCD which runs at 1280 x 768 and a 1.8 inch 30Gb drive which is upgradable to 60Gb and 80Gb. These are the basic features of the VM. It also supports fingerprint scanning, higher resolution output on an external monitor, DVD-CD-R, PCI Express and more. Full specs can be found at FlyBook.

The V33i is a table PC with the regular rotating type screen. It has impressive features and is small measuring at 235 x 155 x 31 (mm). Connectivity on this tablet is provided by EDGE / GPRS and GSM as well as Bluetooth 1.2 and Wifi. The processor is a 1.1Ghz Intel Pentium M. Memory is 512Mb DDR1 standard and can be upgraded up to 2Gb. This is DDR1 memory and not DDR2 like the flybook above. The screen is an 8.9 inch wide view LTPS TFT LCD which runs at a resolution of 1024 x 600 and it powered by an ATI Radeon Xpress 200M card with 64Mb memory.

Looking at the specs above and video below it appears that both devices show potential due to a very small form factor VS power.

Connectivity is provided by USB 2.0 and bluetooth to other devices such as a PC or other phone. Network wise this phone supports GSM 900, GSM 1800, GSM 1900 or in other words, it’s a Tri-Band phone. The phone is also UMTS capable allowing for faster transfer speeds of up to 384kbps via a 3G network. The 4Gb internal disk means that no memory slot is available. However, 4Gb on this device means that you probably would not need to add more memory via a memory card. The operating system is Symbian v9.1, UIQ 3.0.

Dragon USB Mirror Card Reader

The Dragon USB Mirror Card Reader is just another plain memory card reader. The only difference is that it’s a mirror also, I guess made for girls or something. It has 5 slots built in and can read… CF I, CF II, Microdrive, SM, SD, miniSD, MMC, RS MMC, MS, MS MagicGate, MS PRO, MS Pro MagicGate, MS Duo, MS Duo MagicGate, MS Pro Duo, MS Pro Duo MagicGate, MS Pro Ultra II, MS ROM, MS Select, and T-Flash type cards. Not a bad array of cards there! I just wish they would make 1 format of memory card and that would make life so much better 🙂

The display was powered by a blu-ray drive in the video below and the colours and size were very impressive.
