How the Nintendo 3DS Screen Works

Recently, Nintendo announced the Nintendo 3DS. The 3DS is a 3D version of the DS. The interesting thing about this 3D handhled is that it doesn’t require glasses for you to see the 3D effect in games.

Traditionally 3D TV requires that you wear special glasses that are designed to either filter or block out images to each eye (depending on the technology used) and by alternating images at a high frequency it makes it appear that the image being seen on the flat screen is actually 3D.

The Nintendo doesn’t require glasses though and instead of using a regular flat type sreen, the system uses what is called a parallax barrier. The parallax barrier is capable of projecting images out at two different angles. If you look at it from the left you see one image and if you look at it from the right you see a slightly different image. This requires that you hold the 3DS is a “sweet spot” so that you can see both images at the same time with each eye seeing a slightly different image. [Read more…]

HTC Mozart/Mondrian Photos Spotted

The HTC Mondrian looks to be one of the first Windows Phone 7 devices that HTC will launch.

Some new pictures have been leaked of the Mozart/Mondrian that show it has a large screen along with the three dedicated buttons below the screen which match it up with the requirements of a Windows Phone 7 device.

Around the back of the device is a large camera lens and flash. The casing is said to be a combination of light and dark plastic. [Read more…]

Backpack Used to Create 3D Interior Models

A new technology has been developed that lets you easily capture the surrounding area as a 3D model that you can navigate around.

The device comes in the form of a backpack that is loaded with several sensors and cameras that capture a building as you walk through it. Textures are captured with a camera and the 3D model is created from other sensors.

The company envisage that the whole world will be available in 3D if this backpack can be created and used. [Read more…]

Motorola DROID 2 Teardown

The Motorola DROID 2 launched just yesterday and already iFixit has it’s hands on one to teardown. The teardown was put online yesterday and shows all of the insides of the DROID 2 and what is different to the original DROID that launched last year.

The new DROID 2 has a 1GHz processor along with wireless 802.11n for connectivity. Both these enhance the user experience on the device by allowing it to run more smoothly and connect faster where wireless n technology is available to connect to.

Although there are differences between the two models, there are also a lot of similarities. Motorola seems to have opted to keep anything that wasn’t complained about and fix the things that were complained about such as the keyboard and processor that have both received upgrades. [Read more…]

iPhone 4 Gyroblox Available for Download

When Steve Jobs announced the iPhone 4 a few months back, a jenga style game was demoed that showed us all what the gyro was good for. This game is called Gyroblox and is available to download from the iTunes store.

The game is described as follows…

Gyroblox 4 is a demonstration of the gyroscope based on physics.
Gyroscope + accelerometer provide 6-axis motion sensing to camera.
Retina display 960-by-640 resolution is supported.

Sprint Launching Samsung Epic 4G on August 31

Sprint [S] is launching the Samsung Epic 4G on August 31 with a price tag of $250 after a $100 rebate.

The new smartphone is Sprint’s second 4G Android device to be launched. Technical spec wise, it has a 4 inch Super AMOLED screen that is of the capacitive touch variety. It has Android 2.1 (we expect it will be updated to Android 2.2 shortly after launch) and it runs the 1GHz Samsung Cortex A8 processor.

The camera on the Epic 4G is 5 megapixels and is capable of capturing video at 720p HD. An LED flash is also included. [Read more…]

Apple Event Coming Mid September

Apple [AAPL] will be holding an annual event mid-September according to AllThingsD.

This particular event has been held every year since 2005 and is expected to run next month. Items expected to be announced are the new iPod touch 4 with the Retina Display and the dual cameras for FaceTime. There is also the possibility that the iPod touch could get the A4 processor like the iPhone 4 currently has. With the higher resolution screen being mentioned, we suspect that the innards will also get spruced up a little. [Read more…]

Motorola DROID 2 on Verizon Available for Pre-Order

Verizon [VZ] is right on schedule as you are now able to pre-order a Motorola DROID 2 ready for launch tomorrow.

The pre-order pages list the full retail price of the phone at $559.99 along with both a 1 year contract price and 2 year contract price which weigh in at $269.99 for 1 year and $199.99 for the 2 year.

Hardware wise, you get a 3.7 inch screen that has a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels in a WVGA format. 8 GB of internal memory is included along with an 8GB microSD card (provided). A 5 megapixel camera is found on the back. [Read more…]

Nikon D3100 Appears in Best Buy Inventory

The Nikon D3100 has shown up on the inventory system at Best Buy. Details included in the listing include a SKU number which is 1222817 along with the description of it being the “Nikon D3100 DSLR w/ 18-55mm v”.

A release date of September 18 this year is also mentioned although dates often change when added to Best Buys system according to Nikon Rumors.

Dell Streak on AT&T Launching August 13

Dell has finally announced that the Dell Streak will be launching this Friday August 13.

Price wise, it will cost $299.99 when launched which also requires you sign up for a two year contract with AT&T. If you want it off contract then the price is $549.99.

Orders are being taken on August 12 over at the Dell site.

Motorola Announced the DROID 2 – Landing August 12

Verizon [VZ] has announced the Motorola DROID 2 along with a release date and pricing. The pre-sale of the DROID 2 will start tomorrow on August 11 with shipping of the smartphone starting August 12.

Price wise, the DROID 2 will cost $199.99 as expected along with a two year contract agreement that you’ll need to sign.

OS wise, it comes with Android 2.2 pre-installed. Android 2.2 is the latest OS from Google [GOOG] and just in the last month has started rolling out to various smartphones. Thanks to Android 2.2, the DROID 2 is able to run Adobe Flash 10.1 which is available to download on all 2.2 based devices.

Verizon Wireless Roadmap Leaked for 2010/2011

BGR managed to get it’s hands on a roadmap for Verizon [VZ] that shows new device launches for this year and in to next year. As well as going in to 2011, the roadmap also makes mention of a few 2012 plans for the company.

New items include Android 3.0 tablets, LTE MiFi units as well as video conferencing to name a few things.

Before heading over to BGR, a few of the more interesting items I could find include a new Motorola Droid called the Motorola DROID Pro. This device will run a faster 1.3GHz CPU and have a 4 inch screen along with global roaming capabilities. [Read more…]
