Corsair Flash Padlock 2 gets Software and Hardware Encryption

Corsair have announced their latest secure USB flash drive called the Corsair Flash Padlock 2. The Padlock 2 is able to encrypt data by using a built-in 256-bit data encryption algorithm as well as restricting usage by using a PIN access pad.

The Padlock 2 flash drive is encased in a ruggedized housing making it durable which keeps your data safe from the elements.

No software is required to access the secure flash drive due to the PIN keypad and software being built right in to the device. When operating the device you simply enter your PIN number when you first connect it to a PC running Windows/Linux or a Mac. [Read more…]

Origin Eon18 Laptop Announced

The Origin Eon18 gaming laptop has been announced that features a full HD widescreen that measures 18.4 inches. Powering the HD screen are dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280M GPU’s and when launched, will have an Intel Core i7 processor.

The Origin company was created by some ex Alienware execs who left the company when Dell took over a few years ago as they wanted to design laptops the way Alienware would have them designed.

Having all that power does put restrictions on the battery life though which Gizmodo mention is 45 minutes when unplugged and using the hardware to is max. [Read more…]

Adobe Flash Would drop iPad Battery Life to 1.5 Hours

If the Apple [AAPL] iPad was to run Adobe Flash to run on it’s OS then the best battery life the iPad would get is 1.5 hours… well, that’s what Steve Jobs told the guys at WSJ recently in a meeting.

This is based on Flash running hardware acceleration although the Max OS X version for desktops did not run this.

Well, yes and no. Jobs is picking and choosing here between hypothetical versions of Flash. If the iPad version of Flash were to have hardware acceleration, which Flash 10.1 offered up for desktops (though not OS X), that wouldn’t be remotely the case. If Flash on the iPad were to support hardware video decoding where available, it wouldn’t require nearly as much CPU. You’d lose battery life, sure, the same way you lose battery life watching any type of video on any system, but nothing near as dramatic as 85%.

Sync Blocker Cable Prevents Un-wanted Sync’s of your Data

The Sync Blocker cable is designed to prevent the signals that allow your device to sync when it is hooked up to a computer. Reasons for using this cable would include using a USB port on another computer that someone else owns so that when you connect it all the syncing process doesn’t start automatically, or perhaps you only want to charge your device on an office computer and only sync at home.

A control key is included on the side of the USB connect which allows you to enable and disable Sync functionality so that your cable can be used both at home and out and about. [Read more…]

LG to Focus on Handsets that Run Windows Phone and Android

Mobile phone company LG in the past have focussed on their own operating system running S-Class. Although it worked quite well, it always had a few niggles inside that made it frustrating to use with some screen transitions not being as smooth as the iPhone for example. Their hardware for a long time has always been top notch though. Following their own OS they then switched to making Windows Mobile devices with the S-Class interface on top.

LG made an announcement that they are not in the market of developing their own proprietary OS. Instead, they will focus more on the handsets that will run either Google [GOOG] Android or Windows Phone 7 Series. This is good news as both the OS’s mentioned are being heavily developed by dedicated teams and in the terms of Android (the only one of the two currently available), it is making serious steps forwards in to becoming in the “top 3” mobile phone operating systems. Nintendo Gameboy Ring

There isn’t much information about this Nintendo Gameboy ring around the internet. That said, it appears to be made of clay (possibly) and from what we see in the photo found on flickr, it has plenty of detail although it’s safe to assume it doesn’t actually function as a Gameboy… but you already knew that.

As far as I am aware the Nintendo Gameboy ring is not for sale and was custom built by someone who just loves the old handheld games machine. [Read more…]

LG Air Sync Demoed

LG Air Sync is way that connects mobile phones to the cloud so that files can be seamlessly shared between devices. This technology is first to be used on the new LG Mini GD880 that was announced recently. However, the Air Sync software hasn’t hit it’s end of life just yet as LG continue to develop the software and have come up with a new concept shown below which makes use of a surface computer to move data to and from various devices.

The demo shows an LG phone being placed on a surface computer which immediately detects the phone and loads up a couple of sync areas. One of them is a PC Suite while the other is the cloud. By dragging files around to various areas it makes syncing files easy. An example shows a photo being placed on the surface screen and this being read in to the computer and then dragged to the sync folder where it then pops up on the phone. [Read more…]

HP Slate to be Priced Cheaper than the Apple iPad

Apple [AAPL] announced the iPad a few weeks back with a very surprising price tag of $499 for the low end model. This was half the price of the expected $1,000 that was rumoured and was a welcomed price tag.

From what we hear now, it seems like HP are looking at undercutting that price when the HP Slate is officially launched. It is unclear now which iPad price they are going to beat as the WSJ article does say they are undercutting the iPad 3G price, but either way it seems there will be some what of a price battle between the two with HP trying to tempt Tablet users their way.

We find that in general, Apple prices tend to be higher than devices running Windows as users generally pay a premium for their hardware, so it wouldn’t surprise us if the Tablet was to weigh in cheaper. [Read more…]

Huge SD Photo Card only Holds 60 Photos

Normally in the tech industry we see gadgets that shrink in size such as memory cards getting smaller but having much higher capacities. This time the sequence has reversed with this SD card being made huge but also being restricted in what it can hold… ie, just 60 pictures.

If you haven’t figured it out already then you will notice it’s actually just a photo album designed to look like an SD card. It’s capacity, measured in plastic wallets I guess, is capable of holding 60 pictures inside it. The 60 photos it can holds each measure the traditional 4 x 6 inches. [Read more…]

Windows Phone 7 Series Development Docs Leaked

XDA developers is a good place to visit to find gems of information along with ROMS and what not. In this case, a user on the forums managed to get hold of the development documents that show what is required when developing applications for the new Microsoft mobile operating system.

What the document also confirms is that the phone will be capable of multi-tasking, or I should say re-confirms as this was already known.

Developers seem to be quite restricted in the OS and will need to use managed code that will be closely audited. Tools to develop on the system will be Visual Studio along with Expression Blend. [Read more…]
