Apple now Accept Cash for iPad Sales

Recently a lady in the US saved up $500 to get herself an Apple iPad. When arriving at a store she was turned away being told that to buy an iPad you could only use a debit or credit card.

When this information came out, Apple where criticised for that decision. Apple [AAPL] said in a comment that it was a system used to prevent people from buying more than 2 iPads to make getting hold of one easier for people in general – ie, a fair system.

This policy has now been changed and it is now possible to buy an iPad with cash. There is just one requirement though to do this and that is that the user must get an iTunes account in store and activate the iPad in store. [Read more…]

Google Chrome Web Store Launching

Google [GOOG] has announced that it is opening a Web Store for Chrome. The service has been designed to let you download web-based applications in to the browser.

The idea is similar to that of the Apple [AAPL] App Store as well as services such as Marketplace that Google offers for Android users and Ovi that Nokia provides to it’s users.

The new Chrome Web Store is being designed for Chrome only and will not function on other browsers. As well as being designed for the Chrome browser, users of Chrome OS when it launches will naturally get this functionality too. [Read more…]

iPhone to get Classic Prince of Persia

The original Prince of Persia game is heading to the Apple iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. The game originally launched back in 1989 and came with amazing animation along with a few gory bits such as dropping dead on spikes for example.

This same game from the late 80’s will be landing on the iPhone very soon. At the moment Ubisoft has the launch date as last month although that has been delayed (as it’s not available yet). Hopefully we’ll see it soon though as it brings a cool story line, excellent animation and an all round good game to the iPhone. [Read more…]

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX5 Reviewed

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 has a 10.2 megapixel sensor. The lens is capable of 4x optical zoom and can go further 8x with digital zoom. Perhaps one big selling point of this camera is that it’s built to be rigged and therefore is protected against dirt, water, cold and shock.

The image sensor on the DSC-TX5 is an Exmor R type that uses a back lighted CMOS sensor to enhance shots when captured in low light conditions.

Overall, Photography Blog give the camera a good rating of 4 out of 5 stars and also recommend it by saying it’s the type of camera you will often slip in to your pocked when going out for the day. [Read more…]

Apple iPad Controlls a Toy Blimp

Although the Apple iPad has a number of limitations such as the lack of flash, no camera and a few other things, it still doesn’t prevent users from getting a little creative with the device.

In this case a company called BREAKFAST who is based in New York, has managed to create a small blimp that carries a wireless video camera and remote control features that the Apple iPad can hook up to.

The camera is accompanied by a couple of bright LEDs to light up the way and the video feed is wirelessly transmitted back to the iPad so the user can fly around by looking at the screen if needed. To control the blimp you simply rotate the iPad like a steering wheel and the fans are adjusted to push it in the direction you want it to go. [Read more…]

Sprint HTC Hero Android 2.1 Update Almost Ready

Sprint has finally allowed Android 2.1 to land on the HTC Hero.

By installing Android 2.1 from Google [GOOG] you’ll get an enhanced Sense User Interface along with enhanced corporate email support and a number of bug fixes.

To install the update you first need to check the version of your device. I’m not 100% sure why this matters other than perhaps needing to do an inbetween update rather than a full install. Either way, you then need to make sure you read the following and backup all data as this install wipes your Hero completely clean.

Important Note: Installing the 2.27.651.5 update will delete all the data and information on your phone. You will lose contacts that have not been synced to an email account, text messages that have not been forwarded, saved voicemail messages older than 5 days, voicemails older than 20 days that have not been listened to, and call history. The calendar and email settings will also revert back to factory defaults. Pictures, music, videos and files are stored on your microSD memory card, which should be removed before updating your phone.

Apple iPod Touch gets Camera

The Vietnamese site Tinhte.vn has managed to get another breaking news story where the guys there managed to get hold of an Apple iPod Touch with a rear facing camera. The new iPod Touch looks the same as the previous iPod Touch other than the addition of a camera on the back.

The iPod Touch has been captured on video to give a brief demonstration of what it can do. However, it appears that the Touch is still in some sort of diagnostic mode similar to what the iPhone 4G was although the Touch gets to a very basic graphical interface that is usable. The camera seems to function as it should although there was no interface specifically for the camera to be used in. Instead, a group of icons showing various functions of the phone are displayed on this prototype model with a video feed in to one of the icons. [Read more…]
