Angry Birds Beta App for Android Hits 1M Downloads

About three weeks ago, Rovio launched a beta version of Angry Birds for Android OS based smartphones. This is the first time the popular iPhone and iPad game has arrived on Android based devices.

The good news for Rovio is that the beta version has been downloaded over 1 million times in the last 3 weeks which is a very impressive number.

Rovio has also commented that this is their largest beta test ever for a mobile phone platform. [Read more…]

Toshiba To Reveal Glasses-Less 3D TV By End Of Year??

There was a lot of speculation surrounding Nintendo’s new upcoming handheld console, the 3DS, when it was announced last year because of the fact that you won’t need large, unsightly, and expensive 3D glasses to experience 3D images. Windows Phone 7 Chassis 2 Revealed

Windows Phone 7 hardware is classified in “chassis”. The main Chassis that all current test devices have been are Chassis 1 devices which basically means a large screen covering the face of the device with just three physical buttons below the screen. An optional slide out QWERTY keyboard also falls in to the Chassis 1 category with the LG C900 and LG GW910 being the only Windows Phone 7 devices that currently use that option.

Chassis 2 details have now been revealed. The screen resolution on these devices will be 480 x 320 which leaves room for a physical QWERTY keyboard on the front of the device, ie like a BlackBerry or E series Nokia.

WP7 devices will have one of two screen resolutions – either 800 x 480 for large touchscreen devices with the potential for slide-out Qwerty keyboards, or 480 x 320 for ‘BlackBerry’ style handsets that can incorporate a Qwerty on the front of the device. Microsoft expects the majority of WP7 devices to have the larger screen resolution at launch, with smaller resolution handsets coming later, said Foster.

Panasonic Toughbook S9 Announced

Panasonic has announced the Toughbook S9. The S9 is a rugged laptop that has a 12.1 inch screen. The keyboard has an optical drive underneath it that is accessed by lifting up the wrist wrest area.

The Toughbook S9 can drop from as much as 30 inches and will withstand about 220lbs of pressure on its top. Six ounces of liquid can also be dropped on it.

The laptop its self weighs just three pounds. [Read more…]

Unnamed HTC QWERTY Slider Android Smartphone Spotted

HTC looks to be launching another QWERTY slider Android OS based smartphone. It looks similar to what we have seen before, as in the HTC Desire Z or the T-Mobile G2 (also made by HTC). But, this one is slightly different.

It is listed as the HTC ADR6325 which is all is known about the device at the moment. Other details indicate it runs Android 2.2, has a five megapixel camera and a micro SD card slot. The QWERTY keyboard four rows of keys with the top QWERTY row sharing with the number keys. [Read more…]

BlackBerry PlayBook Amazon Kindle App Announced

Last night, RIM introduced the BlackBerry PlayBook at a developers event. Already, Amazon has stepped up to the plate by announcing that the Amazon Kindle App will be made available.

It isn’t clear if Amazon has created the application yet or if they are just confident that it will launch along with the PlayBook early next year when it launches. [Read more…]

Sony Ericsson LiveView Mini Display for Android Announced

Sony Ericsson has announced the Sony LiveView. The LiveView has been designed for smartphones running the Android 2.x operating system.

The device its self has a 1.3 inch screen and connects to a smartphone via bluetooth and allows users to remote control their phone from a device that can be worn on your wrist.

To get it working, you require an application to be running on your smartphone. Once paired up, information can be sent to and from the LiveView. [Read more…]

Android App Store to Launch at Amazon

Amazon will soon be launching its own Android app store. The information comes from TechCrunch who managed to find out about a few bits about the new service.

Amazon will follow the likes of Verizon in to this field. Verizon [VZ] is also making its own app store which will start making a bit of competition between them all.

The details show that there will be a standard 70/30 split although an odd 20/80 split is also mentioned which doesn’t make too much sense at the moment. [Read more…]

Apple TV in UK Now Shipping

The Apple TV in the UK is also now shipping. Yesterday we reported that those in the US had started receiving emails about the Apple device shipping. Now the same information is being sent to customers in the UK who pre-ordered it.

As for arrival dates, the UK model shipped to Geeky Gadgets has a delivery date of October 4 which is this coming Monday. [Read more…]

Laptop Deals at Amazon for September

Amazon currently has a number of laptop deals for the month of September in its store. There are currently 18 laptop discounts available on the ASUS range which include the Republic of Gamers model, UL30 and a number of other variants.

As for discounts available, expect to see some with a 19% discount which knocks over $150 off some of the laptops. [Read more…]

LG Optimus Previewed

Korean Exonomic Daily appears to have had some hands-on time with the LG Optimus Windows Phone 7 smartphone.

Interesting information found in the machine translated article indicates that a voice to text message system might be built in to the Optimus. The service also moves out to emails and status updates by simply talking to the phone.

Other features include a 3.8 inch 800 x 480 resolution screen. Prior to this information it was estimated that the smartphone had either a 3.5 or 3.7 inch screen. [Read more…]
