ChevronWP7 is a service that can unlock Windows Phone smartphones so that they can be used for development. Originally, Microsoft [MSFT] was opposed to the idea although they then backed the idea so that developers could test apps and install them on devices without going the official route. The service was originally granted 10,000 unlock tokens that could be sold on to users and all those tokens are now sold. For some reason, more tokens haven't been requested yet.

Just over half of all mobile devices browsing the web were created by Apple. Numbers are showing that at the end of 2011, Apple had a 52.1 percent share of mobile browser traffic.

Windows Phone users have another option for voice control today thanks to an app called Ask Ziggy. The new app was created by Shai Leib and can be seen in some ways as being similar to Apple Siri and the Android equivalent. The app lets users use voice to ask the phone questions such as directions, flight status, stock prices, weather as well as calculations and questions.

Nokia has announced that it will be launching an update in January for the Nokia Lumia 800 Windows Phone. The update will attempt to fix the battery bug that has been limiting the life of the device between charges.

Microsoft [MSFT] is using Twitter to promote Windows Phone in a slightly different way. Rather than selling the benefits of the Microsoft smartphone operating system, they are focussing on the bad of Android and some recent malware issues it has had.

Microsoft is replying to messages from angry Android users offering them one of five free smartphones that it is giving away as part of a competition.

Google [GOOG] is believed to be working on a new voice system for Android. The system is codenamed Majel after the voice of the Federation computers on Star Trek. Majel is the next step in voice support for Android devices and will follow on from Google Voice Actions. Rather than just repeating set instructions such as "Sent text to fred", Majel will follow more closely with Siri and allow certain variations so that more natural language can be used.

Microsoft [MSFT] has launched SkyDrive for the iPhone. Prior to the release of the app, the way to access it was through the HTML5 site at skydrive.com in the browser. Now that it's an app, it makes the experience a little better.

Microsoft [MSFT] has launched an update for OneNote on iOS devices. Before the latest update (version 1.3) the app had been restricted for use on the iPhone and iPod touch. The new update now brings OneNote to the iPad although the app isn't universal which means you'll need to install the iPad version for the iPad, rather than the same version for both devices.
