We are hearing today that Apple are about to remove all screen protectors for the Apple iPhone out of the Apple store. Screen protectors have been very common for a number of years with a lot of users wanting to protect their devices from scratches and scuffs.
Since the company (NASDAQ: AAPL) has launched their latest iPhone 3G S, the phone has contained a special coating on the screen that prevents almost all fingerprints and grease from forming on it keeping the surface shiny and smooth. It is not known at this time if the screen protectors are perhaps damaging the surface, or if Apple just don’t want to interfere with their screen technology. [click to continue…]

Apple [AAPL] have filed a patent for a pico projector system and from what patentlyapple have found out, they are taking the research to the next level and looking at ways to integrate them in to the next level of hardware.
The way Apple describe the system it seems that they may either make a dedicated pico projector device that connects up to a device such as an iPhone that will be used to remote control the projector.
Integrating a projector in to an Apple iPhone or Apple iPad could be handy allowing for presentations to be done to sound ideas off with a few colleagues before a larger presentation is done. [click to continue…]

Google [GOOG] have started selling the Google Nexus One to users of the Rogers and AT&T networks in Canada and the US. Up till now the only option was to get a phone on the T-Mobile network, so by adding another US network and a Canadian network to the mix we will hopefully see some sales numbers that look better.
At the moment the Nexus One is only available SIM free on Rogers and AT&T although we expect it will be available for a lower price on contract soon although this has yet to be confirmed.
SIM free the phone costs $529 and you get the version that is obviously compatible on AT&Ts 3G network as well as Rogers network in Canada. [click to continue…]

PayPal have updated their iPhone application that now includes the software from Bump Technologies allowing a couple of iPhones to be tapped together to transmit a payment to each other.

The new Bump software is integrated in to the section where a transaction is initiated (as pictured above) and allows you to quickly transfer the money when needed to another user. [click to continue…]

It appears that the Google Nexus One might actually be a sales failure looking at the chart above (larger version below). It is estimated that just 135,000 devices have been shipped in the first 74 days. Compare that to the likes of the Motorola DROID and the iPhone which hit around the 1 million mark things look quite bad for the Nexus One.
The amount of days (74) was decided on because of Apple [AAPL] first announcing that in those opening days of the iPhone going on sale they shifted 1 million units in that time. The other two figures are actually calculated on using stats from a company called Flurry who track app’s installed on devices (UDID’s). [click to continue…]

AutoTrader have launched a new app for the Apple iPhone called the Autotrader iPhone App (UK version) that allows you to capture a picture of a licence plate which is then scanned in by the application to find the make and model of the car. Once done you have access to details on that particular model of car such as how it performs as well as reviews.
Another cool option in the application is the ability to scan through local listings of used and new cars that match the make and model allowing you to find a car nearby.
As well as being able to find reviews, performance details and new/used cars in the local area for sale, the application also gives information on how much the car costs on average around the area. [click to continue…]

According to the YouTube video linked below, the iPhone 4G could be called the Apple iPhone HD. The Youtube user who uploaded the video says “New iPhone HD ad from Apple” in his comments although from what we see it seems a little fake to be honest.
If Apple were to design the new iPhone to look like this it would be the first major shift to a different design since the original iPhone was launched. Since launch the only changes that have been made to the device are making it a bit thinner as well as a few other slight changes on the casing. Other than that it’s almost the same.
Although I don’t personally believe it’s the next gen iPhone I do believe some of the features seen in the video could well be included in the next generation iPhone. [click to continue…]

If you thought a physical keyboard was the only way to tap out a text message on a phone then think again.
Youtube user konceptzoflife successfully managed to tap out a message at an impressive 83 words per minute which is quite amazing if you ask me. The test was done on an Apple iPhone running some software called iTextSpeed to put the words on the page which are then typed in as fast as possible. [click to continue…]

When purchasing an Apple iPhone the terms and conditions say that Apple [AAPL] will service your iPhone, ie, replace it’s battery when it dies. Things are a little different on the Apple iPad wording though which indicates that Apple will replace your iPad when the battery dies.
Apple iPad Battery Replacement TOS
“If your iPad requires service due to the battery’s diminished ability to hold an electrical charge, Apple will replace your iPad for a service fee.”
Apple iPhone Battery Replacement
“If your iPhone requires service only because the battery’s ability to hold an electrical charge has diminished, Apple will service your iPhone for a service fee.”
That’s not a bad deal at all although to get a replacement battery (which includes the replaced iPad wrapped around it) you need to pay $99 for the service. [click to continue…]

We are hearing today that Apple [AAPL] are working on their latest iPhone OS numbered 4.0. The new OS still has a way to go before being launched, but it seems like multitasking is going to be included for 3rd party apps. Currently there are a few apps built by Apple that can multi task such as email and iPod to name a couple.
The current OS 3.x does multitask, but 3rd party apps are prevented artificially for various reasons such as security. If they open it up there could be problems with applications accessing other applications etc…
Other problems caused with multitasking are to do with memory assignment and battery life. When applications are loaded up there has to be some communication between apps on what memory allocations can be used. Also battery life suffers having to handle the extra CPU load. [click to continue…]

Yesterday, Apple launched the latest version of the iPhone OS 3.2 SDK (beta 4). As it was just a beta update from 3 to 4 it wasn’t expected that there will be many difference, and so far this holds true. However, a couple of things noticed in the gesture support show that a couple of new commands are included allowing for longer presses on the screen.
The actual list comprises of 3Tap, LongPress, Pan-Mix, Pinch-In, Pinch-Mix, Pinch-Out, Rotate-Anticlockwise, Rotate-Clockwise, Rotate-Mix and Swipe-Left in which the 3Tap and LongPress are new. [click to continue…]

Imagination Technologies are responsible for creating the PowerVR chip that runs in phones such as the iPhone, DROID as well as others. They believe that in three years time they will have a chip that will bring the power of Playstation 3 graphics to pocket sized devices.
The reason they actually believe (or know it) is due to the fact that the chip is already being designed and due to waiting for licensing, and bringing the chip in to publicly available phones (which takes 3 years) they know that 720p HD will be available with an output to TV that has PS3 capable graphics. Perhaps mini screens will also be cable of 720p at that time too. [click to continue…]
