T-Mobile in the US has announced expansion of its 4G speed networks (running on HSPA+). 75 areas now have access to HSPA+ allowing those within and with compatible devices, to download data at higher speeds.

"4G is about performance and today T-Mobile's HSPA+ network is delivering 4G speeds that match and often beat WiMAX and are readily comparable to what early LTE will deliver. Our 4G network is capable of theoretical speeds up to 21Mbps and we have seen average download speeds approaching 5 Mbps on our myTouch 4G phone in some cities with peak speeds of nearly 12 Mbps. Further, independent reviewers have seen average download speeds on our webConnect Rocket between 5 and 8 Mbps with peak speeds up to 8-10Mbps," said Neville Ray, chief technology officer, T-Mobile USA. "The footprint of our 4G service is not something that competitors are going to match anytime soon, and starting today, we will begin marketing our network advantage with TV commercials advertising ‘America's Largest 4G Network' from T-Mobile." Yesterday we reported that the Dell Streak was to launch in June exclusively on the O2 network in the UK. O2 has now uploaded details to the site which confirm that June 4 is the launch date for the mini tablet device.

The Dell Streak is a smartphone that is described as not being a smartphone due to it's large 5 inch screen that allows better web browsing, entertainment, gaming, shopping, social networking and navigation. The 5 inch screen is multitouch and is capable of showing HD movies.

The Streak has a 5 megapixel camera on the back along with a front facing camera that allows video calls to be made. [click to continue…]

Pictures of the Dell Streak Tablet computer have leaked. The images show a couple of tablets with one measuring 7 inches and the other measuring 10 inches.

We first heard about the Dell Streak back on March 10 although at that time it was thought to be just a 5 inch version previously called the Mini 5.

Regarding launch dates we are also hearing that the Dell Streak 5 and 7 will launch later (or even late) this year with the 10 inch Streak launching early 2011. [click to continue…]

T-Mobile have announced that they are offering the Dell Mini 10 netbook with a built in T-Mobile compatible 3G service.

The netbook is going on sale today for $199.99 on a 24 month contract in various select areas in the US which includes Chicago, Dallas, Miami and Los Angeles. It will also be available through the website and through T-Mobile's sales number.

The Dell Mini 10 appears to be slightly modified from the standard ones available on the Dell website in that it runs an Intel Atom N450 processor that is clocked at 1.66GHz. The battery has six cells and can store 56WHr of energy allowing for up to 8 hours of usage on a single charge which we assume was tested with all features switched off such as Wireless as well as a fairly dim screen. Either way you should at least get 6 hours from a single charge. [click to continue…]

Information has been found about the Dell Streak (previously called the Dell Mini 5). Although it has been called the Dell Streak, this could also be just an internal name given by Dell prior to launch.

The Streak has a 5 inch screen that has a WVGA resolution capable of displaying 800 x 480 pixels. A 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and a flash is also included along with a front facing camera allowing for video calls over Skype for example.

It appears from the image above that the Streak will come in a variety of colours as well as being able to use the Design Studio to get art work on the back cover too. [click to continue…]

The Origin Eon18 gaming laptop has been announced that features a full HD widescreen that measures 18.4 inches. Powering the HD screen are dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280M GPU's and when launched, will have an Intel Core i7 processor.

The Origin company was created by some ex Alienware execs who left the company when Dell took over a few years ago as they wanted to design laptops the way Alienware would have them designed.

Having all that power does put restrictions on the battery life though which Gizmodo mention is 45 minutes when unplugged and using the hardware to is max. [click to continue…]

CultofMac have posted some interesting information on the Apple [AAPL] iPad and the user interface that it uses. Although a number of people have complained across the web about how it's just a large iPod Touch, it makes you wonder if it does need to be different.

What Apple have said about the iPad is that it "improved the experience of doing every day computing tasks" ie, email, browsing and photo slideshows. This is where the iPad excels due to the larger screen. Although I can currently send emails from my T-Mobile G1, Dell Mini 9 netbook or regular laptop while on the move, that doesn't mean it's a streamlined process. Take the netbook for example, it's small and takes several minutes to boot and finally load up web based outlook.... but the iPad aims to change that by providing a decent interface with quick connectivity. Dell have launched their new Dell Mini 10 netbook that comes supplied with the all new Intel Atom N450 processor.

The new Dell Mini 10 is thinner and has a more sleek design. The keyboard on this netbook measures 92% of a full keyboard and the palm rest area is now textured allowing for less smudges to appear on the lower side of the netbook.

For the Mini 10 a new hinge has been created allowing a slimmer device that can still hold a decent sized battery. Three batteries are available for the Mini 10 with the 3 cell version offering 4 hours of usage while the two 6 cell versions offer about 8.5 and 9.5 hours each. Also both the 3 cell and 6 cell batteries measure the same size meaning that the mini 10 netbook wont have any additional bulk if you opt for the larger of the batteries. [click to continue…]

Chrome OS has been seen a number of times since it was officially unveiled recently. A few ways were quickly revealed which allowed you to run Chome OS on a netbook by booting from a USB flash drive along with setting up a VM to run an image. Shortly after being able to run the code on a VM or from a flash drive we then heard that a Google Chrome netbook was going to be launched. At the time of writing not much at all was known about the chrome OS netbook other than some speculation of Google opting for an ARM processor instead of an Intel Atom. [click to continue…]
