Nokia C5 Smartphone Unveiled

Nokia have unveiled a new smartphone called the Nokia C5. The C5 is the beginning of a new series of phones called the Nokia Cseries that ads to the already available Xseries as well as unannounced phones in the Eseries and Nseries.

The C5 sits right in the middle of the Cseries class and runs the Series 60 3rd Edition symbian operating system. It has a 2.2 inch screen along with a 3.2 megapixel camera. Software wise, it comes pre-installed with Ovi Maps allowing for free navigation in a number of countries around the globe.

New features are included in the Nokia C5 such as the phone book that allows you to see friends Facebook status’ as well as send them messages from the phone book. [Read more…]

Nokia to build Windows Phone and Android Devices?

UPDATE: We just head that the paper mis-quoted Williams… this is all not happening. Oh well!

We are hearing rumours that Nokia [NOK] are going to be porting Ovi Maps Navigation on to Android and Windows Phone devices in the near future. The information came as follows…

Greig Williams who is Nokia’s general manager for the Alps and South East Europe, told the Austrian newspaper Die Presse that porting Ovi Maps to Android and Windows Mobile “will be the next step.”

Reading between the lines a little here could reveal a couple of things. First is that they might want Ovi Maps Navigation to function on other platforms to give it away… but could it mean that Nokia are looking at creating Android and Windows Phone devices that will launch with Maps Navigation pre-installed? Nokia N87 AMOLED Camera Phone Details Leaked – Rumour

Yesterday we mentioned a new Nokia N series phone that was rumoured to be launching or at least unveiled at MWC this month. The phone was spotted as the Nokia N8 although perhaps the N8 was referring to this Nokia N87 smartphone as the specs look very similar.

The Nokia N87 is said to have a 12 megapixel camera built in that is capable of capturing images at 720p. It uses Carl Zeiss optics and has a Xenon flash along with night viewing. The processor powering the Nokia N87 is believed to be a 600MHz ARM Cortex 8 processor.

Wireless is built in to the phone which is expected to be 802.11b/g and perhaps n also. An A-GPS chip is also built in allowing for location based services as well as navigation to be used on the device. An FM radio transmitter is to be found in the phone also. For storage it is expected to have either 16GB or 32GB onboard. [Read more…]

Nokia N97 Firmware Update Ready for Download

Nokia have just launched a new firmware for the Nokia N97 smartphone. The new firmware ready for download is version 21.0.0.045.

This latest version has been built to fix a number of small bugs and according to Nokia, improves call reliability as well as internet browsing including the kinetic scrolling that can be found in version 20.+.

The firmware is currently available only as a download where you will need to tether your phone to a computer to perform the upgrade. If you want to wait a little longer then Nokia will release the update as an over the air (OTA) update. [Read more…]

Nokia Mobile Radar Concept

Nokia have built a concept idea that is called the Mobile Radar. Mobile Radar is capable of measuring an objects distance and speed as well as direction all on a mobile phone. The screen shows all the details such as if they are travelling towards or away from you and how fast they are moving.

The video shows a couple of different ways the Mobile Radar can be used such as changing the volume of the loud speaker by moving your hand towards the phone. The radar functions also work through fabric allowing a phone to be held in a pocket or bag and still use gestures to turn it down. [Read more…]

Nokia N900 Gets Second Update this Week

Nokia [NOK] have announced the release of the first major update for the Nokia N900. The update follows a minor update that was released earlier this week. This particular major update brings a number of improvements to the N900 including full compatibility with all SIM’s on the Three network as some of them previously were not able to work correctly.

The Exchange software has also been updated allowing the N900 to connect to Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 allowing the phone to attract more business users who need Exchange integration on their device.

Other items that have received updates include Ovi Maps that has an improved search function and improved route calculation. Other smaller features have been worked in to the update that were requested by users. [Read more…]

New Nokia Symbian UI Revealed

nokia-symbian-UI_1Nokia have revealed pictures of the new Symbian UI and what they are planning to make it look like. Nokia have mentioned that for next year they are releasing just one Maemo smartphone and will be spending the rest of the time concentrating on the Symbian OS.

Nokia have said that the main problem with Symbian OS isn’t the OS it’s self, but actually the UI (User Interface). What Nokia are planning to do is reduce the number of taps you need to do to get around the menus. Rather than setting up an email address with 4 taps, it will reduce to 2 screen taps. nokia6750Rogers Wireless announced yesterday that they will be bringing the Nokia 6750 on to their network. The Nokia 6750 is a mobile designed for those who want access to social networking on the go.

The Nokia 6750 is a flip phone covered in chrome with back lights that allow it to light up in a variety of colours such as blue, pink, orange, green, purple and red. Nokia N900 Shipping in the US – Delayed in UK

The phone actually started shipping yesterday which was a week after the initial press release mentioned.

The N900 has 32GB of on-board storage and runs a Cortex-A8 processor. The phone will set you back a hefty $649 unlocked although expect it will significantly lower when networks start have the smartphone for sale. [Read more…]

Nokia 7230 Announced

Nokia have announced a couple of phones this morning. The first was the Nokia 6700 slide, and now we have the Nokia 7230.

The phone is a slight step down from the 6700 slider and runs the series 40 software and although it has a slightly larger 2.4 inch screen. The camera is capable of capturing images at 3.2 megapixels.

The phone allows you to easily share pictures on Ovi, Flickr and Facebook with 3G being used to transfer your images direct to those web apps.

Nokia 6700 Slide Announced

Nokia-6700-slide-2Nokia have announced the Nokia 6700 slide phone. The phone is a 3G slider phone that design wise, comes in a number of colours which includes pink, red, petrol blue, aluminium, lime and purple. The phone is also slimline.

The 6700 slide has a 5 megapixel camera that has Carl Zeiss optics which we expect will be as good as any other camera phone. An editing package is also included in the phone allowing photos to be modified as needed while on the move.
