HTC Incredible S, Wildfire S and Desire S Made Official

As well as announcing the HTC Flyer tablet as well as the ChaCha and Salsa smartphones, HTC has announced three other smartphones called the HTC Incredible S, HTC Wildfire S and the HTC Desire S.

The HTC Incredible S is pictured above and is a GSM device designed for the European market. It has an 8 megapixel camera on the back. The screen measures 4 inches and is a WVGA Super LCD screen. A front facing VGA camera is also included on the Incredible S. This particular smartphone will also be made available in Q2 although we see it will come with Android 2.2 rather than 2.4 like the other devices mentioned earlier. HTC Flyer Tablet with Android 2.4 Announced

HTC has announced a new tablet device called the HTC Flyer. The Flyer has a 7 inch touchscreen that is also compatible with stylus input. It runs Android 2.4 which is an update to Gingerbread, but still called Gingerbread that brings Android 3.0 Honeycomb elements to the backend.

The tablet is also the first ever tablet that runs the HTC Sense UI. The stylus uses an active digitizer that makes it compatible with the capacitive touchscreen. By including this, they allow for those who want to use a tablet to scribble notes on with a pen rather than finger. [Read more…]

HTC ChaCha and Salsa Facebook Phones Announced

HTC has announced several new smartphones today. The first two are the HTC ChaCha and the HTC Salsa.

HTC has designed this pair of smartphones to function as “Facebook phones” in that the HTC Sense UI designed for these devices, heavily integrates Facebook connectivity.

Both phones feature a dedicated Facebook button allowing one-touch access to the social network. The Sense UI also integrates Facebook through out the functions of both smartphones. [Read more…]

iPad 2 Could Switch from IPS to PLS Display

Although we’ve heard that the iPad 2 wont have a Retina Display, we now hear that the screen technology behind the next gen iPad could be enhanced. The current model uses what is called IPS which means In Plane Switching. What this does is allows for wide viewing angles and a generally clear display.

We now hear that the iPad 2 will start to use PLS screen technology instead. PLS means Plane to Line Switching which offers even further clarity and even wider viewing angles.

The actual PLS technology supposedly being used is Super PLS which was first unveiled by Samsung a few months ago. [Read more…]

As you may have noticed, there’s a lot of smartphone announcements being made today. This is due to Mobile World Congress running this week.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo and Pro Announced

As well as the Xperia Play introduced by Sony Ericsson yesterday, the company has also revealed the Xperia Neo and Xperia Pro smartphones. Each of the new devices runs the Google Android operating system which from what the press release says, is the latest which means it’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

The Xperia Neo, pictured above, is a touchscreen device that has a camera with an Exmor R sensor. This particular sensor has been designed for low light video capture. The screen measures 3.7 inches and can show 480 x 854 pixels. The processor running it is from Qualcomm and is clocked at 1GHz (ie, the Snapdragon). [Read more…]

More Mini iPhone Rumors Added

Last week, rumors of a mini iPhone were revealed. The rumors hinted at a device with a 2.5 inch screen that in total, would be 1/3 smaller than the current iPhone 4.

At the time, we heard that it would be made from some parts of older iPhone models which was being done to keep costs down. The price tag is expected to be $200 off contract, which will be amazing if Apple can get the price that cheap. Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Announced

After months of waiting, Sony Ericsson has announced the PlayStation Phone. The device is called the Xperia Play and as already mentioned since the beginning of the rumors, the device runs the Android operating system.

Features include a 4 inch multi-touch screen, it also has a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and an embedded Adreno GPU that allows for up to 60 frames per second when using 3D graphics.

The Android OS running on the device will be the latest 2.3 Gingerbread and this particular device is labeled as the first official PlayStation Certified device which could indicate another model will be coming soon. [Read more…]

Samsung Galaxy S2 Specs Leaked Online

The Samsung Galaxy S2 – i9100, is expected to launch next week at MWC. The specs of this particular smartphone have been leaked online and show that it runs a 1.2GHz Samsung Orion processor and has a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus screen, also by Samsung from what we understand.

The device, possibly pictured below, will have NFC communications built in. It will run Google Android 2.3 when it launches and we assume this will be updated to the even newer Android 2.3.3 that boosts the NFC capabilities even further. [Read more…]

ViewSonic Announce V350 Smartphone and ViewPad Tablet

ViewSonic has introduced a couple of new devices just ahead of MWC that kicks off in a few days time.

First on the list is the ViewPad 10Pro that is described as being a professional tablet. It has a 10 inch screen and is capable of dual booting between Windows 7 Professional and Android 2.2. The idea behind this is that the user uses Android for email and basic web browsing, but switches to Windows when a little more kick is needed. When running Android, users benefit from the instant-on allowing emails to be checked easily whilst on the move. [Read more…]

Android 2.3.3 OS Announced

Google has announced the launch of Android 2.3.3. Android 2.3.3 is a small feature release that extends Android 2.3 Gingerbread to give it some new NFC capabilities.

NFC (near field communications) was included in the Android 2.3 update. What the 2.3.3 gets is the following extras:

* A comprehensive NFC reader/writer API that lets apps read and write to almost any standard NFC tag in use today.
* Advanced Intent dispatching that gives apps more control over how/when they are launched when an NFC tag comes into range.
* Some limited support for peer-to-peer connection with other NFC devices.

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Release Date is Feb 22

On February, Windows 7 Service Pack 1 will be released for public download. As well as the new service pack being made available for Windows 7 users, it is also available for Windows Server 2008 R2 users.

To get the update you need to either just wait for Microsoft to promt you that it’s available, or you can load up the Windows Update and manually check for it after the 22nd February. [Read more…]
