XPAL Solar Egg Charger – 4 Hour Charge on Indirect Sunlight

XPAL have created a new solar charger that is capable of reaching full charge in just four hours. What makes the XPAL solar charger more impressive is that the four hour charge can be achieved in indirect sunlight where as other chargers rely on direct sunlight to charge.

The system uses what it calls “magic SunBoost solar conversion technology” that uses medium levels of natural light to charge the device. That particular technology was created by a company called Intivation who are based in the Netherlands.

So that the XPAL Solar Egg charger functions more it has the ability to detect what type of device it is connected to and can change the output to not waste energy. An example could be an MP3 player that requires less power than a digital camera to charge. [Read more…]

Doodle Track Slot-less Cars

Doodle Track Cars are similar to Slot Cars although they travel at a lower speed and don’t run in slots. Instead, you simply doodle a track on a large sheet of paper and let the cars follow the track.

The downside of Doodle Track Cars are that you don’t control them as they just sit and follow your doodled track. If you don’t want to sketch a course on to paper then the other option is to create a track in the software and print it out on to multiple bits of paper stuck together. [Read more…]

Commodore VIC-20 Runs Twitter

Think back a good 20 – 25 years to the mid 80’s where computers such as the Sinclair Spectrum 128k+2 existed. You might also remember the Commodore VIC-20 that like the Spectrum +2, also loaded games and software from a cassette deck (or datacorder as Sinclair named it). It also had a 1 MHz CPU. The VIC-20 was kind of classed as a bad C64 due to the C64 selling extremely well.

This particular VIC-20 has been loaded with software called TweetVER which is short for Tweeting from a Vintage CompuTER. The software is about to be connected up to a twitter account found here and on the 20th of this month, the VIC-20 will send a live tweet from it’s speedy 1MHz based computer. Please note that there are 3 or so tweets on that account already, but just ignore them as they were not sent from an old computer. [Read more…]

LG Mini GD880 Announced

Bear with us for the next 30 minutes or so as several new handsets have been announced over at MWC, three of which are from HTC although this first one is an LG handset. Class 10 MicroSDHC 16GB Card from Kingston Starts Shipping

Kingston are shipping a class 10 microSDHC memory card that has a 16GB capacity. The microSDHC card is capable of transferring data at 10MB/second allowing it to be used in DSLR cameras that capture fast images.

Windows Phone 7 Series Marketplace

Lots of information was shared about Windows Phone 7 Series yesterday, in particular the new interface that uses a new active tile system to display information on finger-friendly sized tiles that are set at 1 – 2 on each row.

What we didn’t see yesterday was anything about the Marketplace for Windows Phone 7 Series. What we do believe is that older applications not designed for the latest Windows Phone will not work, thus meaning new applications will need to be created. The screen shots above and below show the new marketplace and how it will look.

The interface for Marketplace follows along with the same theme that the rest of the new operating system uses in that the UI is wider than the actual screen which can be scrolled to the side to get to the information you want. [Read more…]

Windows Phone 7 Series Now Official

Windows Phone 7 Series has been officially announced at MWC today. The new operating system was designed to “re-invent” how phones actually operate and how the UI functions. In the past a lot of phones tend to try function like a PC. Microsoft’s [MSFT] new approach is that the phone is more intimate than a PC, and should have a new user interface.

What Microsoft wanted to achieve when planning Windows Phone 7 Series is a device that can focus on an individual and their needs as well as helping to organise information and applications.

The new operating system features flatter icons than before that actually look good. They are large allowing for 1 or 2 to fit across the page and work easily without the need of a stylus. The home page scrolls down and displays several of these blocks which house the most common details and contacts you need. [Read more…]
