Chrome OS Gets Ported to iPad

UK based hacker, Hexxeh, has managed to port Chrome OS to the Apple iPad. The image above shows the new operating system running on the iPad. Of course it could be a fake, but from what we understand, the hacker has a good track record with Chrome OS builds which makes us inclined to think all is actually OK.

The port to iPad required that the tablet be compromised, perhaps jailbroke but not confirmed, and once installed, the only way to get iOS back on to the iPad is to do a complete restore. [Read more…]

HP PalmPad WebOS Version Landing Early 2011 – Rumour

HPs EVP Todd Bradley has commented that we could see the WebOS based HP PalmPad arrive early next year. HP also filed for the PalPad trademark earlier this year which also indicated a possible launch.

The HP PalmPad will join the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the newly announced BlackBerry PlayBook in the fight against the Apple iPad. Each runs a different OS which makes the whole thing a little more intriguing. WebOS of course, is what runs on devices such as the Palm Pre. Skype to get Deep Facebook Integration in Version 5

Skype is rumoured to be heavily integrating Facebook features in to the next version of Skype. The information reveals that Facebook Connect could be pushed in to version 5. It will allow users to log on to Skype via their Facebook username and password.

By doing this, you’ll get all your Facebook contacts in your Skype list. You will then be able to SMS, voice or video call your Facebook contacts.

This, for both companies looks to be a good thing as there are many Facebook users that could start using Skype, and for Facebook it provides another method for users to contact each other. [Read more…]

Panasonic Toughbook S9 Announced

Panasonic has announced the Toughbook S9. The S9 is a rugged laptop that has a 12.1 inch screen. The keyboard has an optical drive underneath it that is accessed by lifting up the wrist wrest area.

The Toughbook S9 can drop from as much as 30 inches and will withstand about 220lbs of pressure on its top. Six ounces of liquid can also be dropped on it.

Sony Ericsson LiveView Mini Display for Android Announced

Sony Ericsson has announced the Sony LiveView. The LiveView has been designed for smartphones running the Android 2.x operating system.

The device its self has a 1.3 inch screen and connects to a smartphone via bluetooth and allows users to remote control their phone from a device that can be worn on your wrist.

To get it working, you require an application to be running on your smartphone. Once paired up, information can be sent to and from the LiveView. [Read more…]

LG Optimus Previewed

Korean Exonomic Daily appears to have had some hands-on time with the LG Optimus Windows Phone 7 smartphone.

Interesting information found in the machine translated article indicates that a voice to text message system might be built in to the Optimus. The service also moves out to emails and status updates by simply talking to the phone.

Other features include a 3.8 inch 800 x 480 resolution screen. Prior to this information it was estimated that the smartphone had either a 3.5 or 3.7 inch screen. [Read more…]

BlackBerry Tablet Announced as the PlayBook

RIM has announced the BlackBerry Tablet. Its real name is the PlayBook and all the details have been announced along with pictures of the device.

Technical spec wise, the PlayBook will run a Cortex A9 running at 1GHz. The CPU is dual-core. It will have 1GB of RAM. The screen measures 7 inches.

The operating system running on the PlayBook is QNX as expected. As for launch dates, it is expected in the US in the first quarter of 2011 and internationally it will arrive sometime in Q2. Prices have not yet been revealed. [Read more…]

Sharp Galapagos e-Reader Tablets Announced

Sharp is to launch a couple of e-Reader tablet devices later this year. They will be both called the Sharp Galapagos and will come in two versions one of which will have a 5.5 inch screen and a 1024 x 600 pixel display. The second model will be a larger 10.8 inch device with a resolution of 1366 x 800 pixels.

Each device will have an LCD screen. For connectivity they will have 802.11b/g wireless and for navigation they will have a trackball.

Each device is scheduled to be launched in December of this year and the launch will be accompanied by the launch of 30,000 newspapers, magazines and books for reading on the device. [Read more…]

Two Palm Phones Could Launch Soon

Rumours about two new Palm webOS based phones and a new TouchStone have started circulating.

The details of the devices were revealed in a certification database. The database used was the same one that originally tracked the launch of the Pre Plus and the Pixi Plus which indicates that this could potentially be the real deal.

The two new model numbers listed include the P102UNA and the P102EWW as well as the TouchStone charger. [Read more…]
