FaceTime for Mac and Windows Rumoured

FaceTime currently works between iOS 4 devices that have a front facing camera only. Rumours are circulating at the moment that indicate a client for the Mac and Windows could be launching that would allow a FaceTime call from an iPhone 4, for example, to a PC.

It is expected that the Mac version would be built in to the iChat software. Although it is a rumour just now, we suspect that it could be true as Apple [AAPL] is wanting to push FaceTime a lot. By integrating with the desktop it would allow video calls to be used by more people. [Read more…]

HDR Video Created with two Canon 5D Mark II Digital SLRs

The video below is a demonstration of what HDR video looks like. The HDR video was created by putting two Canon 5D Mark II digital SLR cameras together. By using a beam splitter they were able to get the cameras to look at exactly the same object. Each camera has a slightly different exposure setting and when the two are combined, it creates the HDR video.

The full details of how this was accomplished are not provided. As can be seen in the results below though, it looks great. [Read more…]

Apple Patent Reveals Clip on Zoom Lens for iOS Devices

Apple [AAPL] might be launching a clip on zoom lens for iOS devices. The information comes from a patent found by Patently Apple that reveals a small attachment that clips to a device such as the iPod touch or iPhone.

We have seen a few different third-party lenses before for the iPhone, but none of them were officially created by Apple.

It is unknown at the moment if Apple will move ahead with the idea, or if it will just stay an idea. We suspect that with the increasing pace that technology changes that a need for this type of lens might be irrelevant if the glass and optics of the small cameras can be enhanced enough within the body of the phone. iFixit managed to get hold of an iPod touch to tear down. The iPod touch went on sale this week after being announced just last week at the Apple Special Event.

The iPod touch is very thin and hence, a lower resolution camera was used as the 5 megapixel version from the iPhone 4 just wouldn’t fit with the technology used today.

The new touch uses an A4 processor although it comes packaged with 256MB of RAM (just like the iPad) rather than the 512MB of the iPhone 4. [Read more…]
