Cableman – The Rubber wire Tamer

usbfever-cableman
This cool little gadget is a rubber man called Cableman. It’s a small man which allows you to wrap your cables around him to keep them tidy. He comes in several colours and is available from USBFever for just $3.99. Dragon Steel Mods give the little fella a full review although they do say the wires manage to get tangled a little.

Self Healing Plastic

self-healing-plastic
A new plastic has been created which can heal it’s self. Uses for such plastic could be medical implants, self-repairing materials for airplanes and spacecraft. It works by using channels in a second layer under the top layer. When the top layer cracks the crack is filled by a liquid healing agent and when mixed with a catalyst forming a polymer. The amount of times the plastic can heal is not restricted. This process is not new although it seems an easier way of accomplishing the task has been created. There is potential for other materials to contain self healing agents which could lead to a whole host of cool applications.

Introducing the Top 100 Gadget Blogs

Top 100 Gadget Blogs
I would like to introduce a new feature named the Top 100 Gadget Blogs. We have compiled a list of many gadget blogs from around the world and ranked them from a combination of Alexa and Technorati which gives us a good idea of their rank. The Top 100 Gadget Blog list will be compiled once a week along side a list of those websites that have jumped the most places in the list.

If you own a blog and are not listed, then drop us an email at top100 at gvenue dot com.

Check out the Top 100 now and let us know where you are listed.

MP3 Toilet

MP3 Toilet
MP3 players are now arriving in all sorts of shapes and sized. One I came across today is an MP3 Toilet. Unfortunately (maybe fortunately) it is not an actual musical toilet. Rather, it’s a device which works with your toilet. The MP3 player is SD memory card based to allow you to quickly update the music. The player attaches to a wall near the toilet and there is a receiver which goes under the seat. I have yet to work out what exactly that “receiver” does although it could be there to just sense when someone is there.

I have no idea where you can get this although if you flew out to Japan today I have no doubt that you would find it.

Pure Highway DAB digital radio for cars

Pure Highway DAB
Pure Highway is an “easy to install” DAB digital radio for your car. Due to it’s rubber suction mount it can easily install on the windscreen of your car the same way a sat nav device would attach. Once mounted in the car it is powered by your lighter socket and has an aerial which attaches to the windscreen. Once ready the DAB digital radio will broadcast an FM signal which is picked up by your radio (like the iTrip on the iPod) and you just tune in to an available channel on your radio and experience the full DAB service. If you want to listen on foot then they have covered this too. The radio can be powered by 2 AA batteries which provide 6 hours of play. Headphones can be also attached.

The Pure Highway will cost £69.99 when it is launched in time for Christmas.

What is inside a Digital Camera?

crackingopendc
If you ever wondered what you would find in a digital camera but were too afraid that you were going to bust up your expensive one then cnet have done the hard work for you. They cracked open a fairly standard 3.3 mega pixel camera to see what was found inside. Once several screws were removed they pulled the case apart and found various bits and pieces which are covered over at CNET. Inside the camera you will find the flash and capacitor which is used to hold the charge that allows the flash to function. Also inside you will find a view finder, LCD screen, CCD, battery compartment and the circuit boards that make it all work.

Check out CNET for the full rundown of what you will find inside a digital camera.

Nokia N96 a Possibility?

n96_concept
Rumours have been floating around about a new phone from Nokia numbered the N96. This beauty packs in 10GB of internal memory (I assume similar to how the 8GB N95 is), has a 3.2 inch colour screen, wifi, Bluetooth 2.0 and a full QWERTY keyboard. The camera steps up a notch to 6 mega pixels and GPS navigation is included. Motion sensors are also to be found inside.

However, this is just rumour as Nokia have not confirmed this yet. The specs listed seem fairly standard so it could be a strong possibility that an N series (N96) is on it’s way to us sometime next year.

GPS Mouse – A Worlds First?

GPS Mouse
When thinking about what devices would work well together such as an MP3 player and phone, you probably wouldn’t think of putting a GPS receiver in a mouse. This is what Deluo have done and created what is possibly the worlds first GPS mouse (I have yet to confirm that). Adding a GPS to a mouse seems a little odd, but at the same time it could work well for people who regularly carry a laptop around and need to quickly check where in the world they are. The GPS receiver can track on 16 channels and the mouse has a retractable USB cord allowing you to keep the cables neat when traveling. Power to the GPS mouse is provided by USB so that no batteries are required.

The DeluoGPS Mouse costs $94.34 currently at Amazon. This version comes with Microsoft Streets.

iPod USB Turntable

ipod-usb-turntable
The iPod USB Turntable is an MP3 converting device with an iPod dock attached. It allows you to play records at 33 1/3 rpm or 45 rpm and record the music direct to the docked iPod. The dock is compatible with 5th Gen iPods or 2nd Gen Nano’s. The turntable it’s self is a belt driven device with anti-skating control. Also an output is provided allowing you to play your old vinyl records to a stereo system. USB support is also provided allowing you to create MP3’s from your vinyl rather then recording them right on to the iPod.

The iPod USB turntable costs $260.

Skype & Three Mobile Phone

Skype Three Phone 1

Here is the new Mobile Phone coming from Three and Skype. We were able to get our hands on a couple of them to give them some testing.

The phone has a 2 Megapixel camera, 3G connectivity 256Mb of inbuilt memory and can search the mobi-web. The phone also features a dedicated ‘Skype’ key to allow you to see which contacts are online. Charging is done via usb, which is always handy!

The phone is free on 18month contracts or £50 on Pay As You Go (PAYG). Currently these models we have do not feature Skype In or Out, and No video calling, but we are told that these will be working in the future. Each month you get 100 minutes/texts and 10,000 chat session instant messages.

Of course, you get a Three number and a regular sim-card to use the phone as a normal mobile phone. Apparently though, if you go abroad and want to use it you may be subject to Roaming Charges! (Be warned)

The phone packaging states that it is made by Amoi, and designed by Three and Amoi together.

This is only a quick glimpse of the phone, and a full review will be here within a couple of days, so check back to see what our findings are. We will let you know the battery life, camera quality and all those other things you NEED to know before you buy one!

From our initial findings it seems like a nice, easy phone to use which looks like it may well be a good smooth integration between Three and Skype.

Hoverwing – A Flying Hovercraft

Hoverwing
A cool hovercraft named the hoverwing has been created by a bloke named Rudy Heeman in New Zealand. This hoverwing is a hovercraft with wings attached which allow it to fly over 6 feed above the water. It takes off at top speed which is 60MPH. It has taken a long time to perfect and looks quite fun to fly although in the making he was injured although this didn’t stop Rudy from continuing on. There is space for 1 passenger. Would you fly with Rusy on the hoverwing?
