Apple iPad Used to Self-Order at Restaurants

Over in Japan, Sharp is testing a new ordering system for restaurants that allows customers to use an iPad to order food rather than a traditional paper/card menu.

The system is being built for Izakaya Japanese-style restaurants.

The system works by loading up an app that displays everything that’s on offer in the restaurant. The guests seated at tables can then easily pick and choose what quantities of food they want. We assume that paying via iPad will also be possible. [Read more…]

KeyCase Brings Keyboard and iPad Together

Virtual keyboards are difficult to use for some people. For those who cannot get to grips with the Apple iPad keyboard, this case might be the answer for you. It is called the KeyCase and has an integrated Bluetooth 2.0 keyboard built in that seamlessly connects to the Apple iPad. The case it’s self opens up as pictured above, allowing you to easily type whilst on the move.

It’s different than having a laptop for example, as you still get the benefits of a decent touchscreen and the ability to surf, read books and more whilst on the move. But for times when you want a real physical keyboard to type with, this might work well for you. [Read more…]

Apple iMac Touch Patent Found

Apple [AAPL] could be launching a new iMac called the iMac touch. This information comes from a patent that was found that shows an iMac being used with both a touchscreen and a keyboard as represented in the drawings above and below.

The patents also suggest that Apple could be using a dual mode OS system where OS X is used when the screen is upright and iOS when the touch interface is enabled.

Imagine having an iMac on your desktop one minute and a gigantic iPad the next. Imagine playing iGames on this dream machine – Wow! Imagine reading a double-page book on this – Unbelievable! Apple takes the mystery out of how OS X could finally co-exist with iOS on a Mac and you’ve got to see this one to believe it.

Samsung Galaxy S gets DivX HD Certified

Samsung has announced that the Samsung Galaxy S is now DivX Certified for HD video playback at a resolution of 720p. This makes it the worlds first Android mobile phone to reach this certification level. Previously the Samsung Wave was the first phone to get DivX HD certified making the Galaxy S the second phone.

Along with that announcement, some details of the smartphone were re-emphasized such as the 4 inch Super AMOLED display along with the 1GHz processor and powerful 3D graphics.

To enjoy DivX video on the Galaxy S, consumers can load their video libraries of both standard definition and HD 720p movies in the DivX format on the internal and external memory (expandable to 32GB) and then watch their collections anywhere they choose. In addition, the Galaxy S can connect directly to other DivX Certified devices, such as HDTVs, turning it into a powerful mobile set-top box in the living room. The Galaxy S will also support the secure playback of major Hollywood titles in the DivX format from leading studios.

HTC T8788 Windows Phone 7 Heading to AT&T

The HTC T8788 is a Windows Phone 7 smartphone that is heading to AT&T [T] in the US. We can assume that the T8788 is just a prototype name and that a better name will be unveiled before it hits the shelves (perhaps the Tytn 4 – or whatever number we are at now).

The HTC Windows Phone 7 T8788 looks to be a slider phone although when sliding out the “keyboard” on the right of the device, it doesn’t reveal a keyboard. Instead a large speaker can be seen which indicates the phone is more of a media based smartphone than a new Tytn model. [Read more…]

Neato Robot Vacuum Gets Reviewed

Engadget managed to get hold of a Neato XV-11 robot vacuum to test to see if it’s any good at cleaning floors. The Neato XV-11 goes up against the Roomba as well as other makes and models of robot vacuums.

The Neato XV-11 is different in how it works when compared to the Roomba. When using the Roomba it has a large bumper across the front that when it bumps in to something, it changes direction. A sensor does detect an object but is there to just slow the Roomba down before hitting the wall. The Neato has a laser scanner installed that can scan the room while vacuuming to know where it can and cannot go. [Read more…]

Magic Trackpad gets ColorWare Treatment

ColorWare is a company we have mentioned before. They are responsible for changing the look of gadgets in to a list of many colour possibilities. Devices such as the iPhone 4, Xbox and many others are all possible to be recoloured.

The next on the list is the Magic Trackpad from Apple [AAPL]. ColorWare is giving customers the usual option of completely changing the look of it. The above blue is just one example although there are many other colours to choose from.

Price wise, it isn’t cheap as can be expected. If you order a Magic Trackpad from ColorWare and have it coloured by them, it’ll cost you $145. If you already own a Trackpad and want to send it in for colouring, it’s $75. [Read more…]

The phone it’s self costs either $299.99 without a contract or $99.99 with a two year agreement with AT&T [T].

The press release makes no mention of which version of Android it is running, but unfortunately we found out that it’s just Android 1.5 for some bizarre reason that we have yet to figure out. There is no mention of any Android 2.1 or 2.2 update in the near future either. [Read more…]
