Literati Color e-Book Reader Approved by FCC

We first mentioned the Literati Colour eBook reader back in August of this year. We now hear that the FCC has approved the device and that it can now go on sale in the US.

The Literati is a 7 inch eBook reader that has a colour LCD display. When purchasing the device, you get 25 eBooks pre-installed to start you off reading. Access to another 125 books is available at any time. Of course, 150 eBooks isn’t the largest selection but good news is that these are the “free” copies. HTC Merge/Lexikon User Guide Show Bing Integration

Droid Life managed to get hold of a users manual for the HTC Merge/Lexikon smartphone device.

The userguide indicated that the new (name unconfirmed) smarphone will run Android 2.2 when it launches. It will have the latest Google Android OS installed (2.2 Froyo) and will have a slide-out QWERTY keyboard for text input, as seen in the image above.

Rather than using the regular Google integration of Android, this device will have a heavy integration of Bing. The phone is headed to Verizon [VZ] which explains why Bing is heavily integrated. [Read more…]

disgo Tablet 6000 to Cost £179.99

A number of companies are trying to get Android based tablets launched on to the market. Some make it, some don’t. This next one aims to lower the price by introducing the tablet at just £179.99.

The tablet is called the disgo Tablet 6000 and has a 7 inch screen in a WVGA format. The OS running on the tablet is Android 2.1.

Features on the disgo include Wireless 802.11b/g/n as well as a miniHDMI port and USB port. Inside, 2GB of storage can be found. [Read more…]

ACER Aspire AZ3100-U3072 All-In-One Announced

The Acer Aspire All-In-One range has just added a new device to the list. The new model is the AZ3100-U3072.

This particular model has a 21.5 inch display that supports full HD at 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixels).

Powering the AIO is a 2.0GHz AMD Athlon II 170u processor. 3GB of RAM can be found inside and for storage it has a 500GB harddrive as standard. [Read more…]

Android Market Opens Up to More Countries

Google has announced that support for paid application sales is expanding and that developers in 29 countries can now take part. As well as expansion with the developers side of things, paid apps in the Android Market are now available to people in 32 countries.

For developers, there are changes that might need to be made to your apps. If you have made them available in “all locations” then no further action is required on your part. However, if you have restricted the countries then you might want to log in and change the settings if you want users in the countries to be able to grab the apps. [Read more…]

Windows Phone 7 Smartphones Could Arrive in US on November 8

In less than two weeks time, Microsoft [MSFT] will be officially announcing the launch of the Windows Phone 7 platform. Shortly after, it is expected that manufacturers will start shipping handsets.

The launch in the UK is expected to be on or around October 21. We now hear that for those on the AT&T network in the US, they can expect to start picking up the new OS on smartphones on November 8.

The reason that only AT&T has been mentioned is that in the past, we heard that they have exclusivity on the handsets till early next year. [Read more…]

Google URL Shortner Now Makes QR Codes

Google [GOOG] has formally launched its URL shortening service called Goo.gl. What this does is allows you to shorten a long URL down to just a few characters to make it easier to share a URL on social networking sites like Twitter.

A handy “Easter Egg” style feature has also been included with the new shortener. What the new feature allows you to do is automatically create a QR code for the shortened URL by simply adding .qr on to the end of any shortened URL. [Read more…]

Samsung Galaxy Tab UK Launch Date – November 1

Samsung has announced that the Samsung Galaxy Tab will be launching in the UK on November 1. All major networks will get the Galaxt Tab on launch day although Samsung have still yet to reveal the price tag.

We know that Amazon, Expansys and others will sell a SIM free Tab for £600 – £700, but as for carrier pricing, we really have no idea what plans are just yet. When carriers do announce pricing it will be the usual subsidised price tags that decrease as you are willing to commit to a higher plan. [Read more…]

Touchscreen iMac Being Tested?

MacBook Could get 3G in the Future

Apple [AAPL] has been granted a patent for a MacBook that has built in multiband cellular technology.

Apple’s Patent Abstract: Antenna window structures and antennas are provided for electronic devices. The electronic devices may be laptop computers or other devices that have conductive housings. Antenna windows can be formed from dielectric members. The dielectric members can have elastomeric properties. An antenna may be mounted inside a conductive housing beneath a dielectric member. The antenna could be formed from a parallel plate waveguide structure. The parallel plate waveguide structure may have a ground plate and a radiator plate and may have dielectric material between the ground and radiator plates. The ground plate can have a primary ground plate portion and a ground strip. The ground strip may reflect radio-frequency signals so that they travel through the dielectric member. The antenna may handle radio-frequency antenna signals in one or more communications bands. The radio-frequency antenna signals pass through the dielectric member.

Facebook Rolling Out High Res Photo Uploads

When uploading photos to Facebook to share with friends, Facebook compresses the images and makes them smaller in size so that they download quicker for users, and take up less resources in regards to server processor, storage and bandwidth usage.

This is changing though as Facebook is about to allow larger images to be uploaded and displayed. Over the next few weeks the service will roll out to users and once active, you’ll be able to upload images with a resolution of 2048 pixels on the largest edge. [Read more…]
