The Kodak Playsport is a rugged camcorder that is waterproof up to 3 meters. It has a 5 megapixel sensor and is capable of capturing video up to a 1080p Full HD resolution. As well as capturing video the camera can also capture 16:9 wide aspect stills. 4X digital zoom is also included.

The camera has been designed to be rugged and comes in a tactile rubber casing that helps it withstand the occasional knock and scrape making it ideal for taking on sporting activities. The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 has a 10.2 megapixel sensor. The lens is capable of 4x optical zoom and can go further 8x with digital zoom. Perhaps one big selling point of this camera is that it’s built to be rigged and therefore is protected against dirt, water, cold and shock.

The image sensor on the DSC-TX5 is an Exmor R type that uses a back lighted CMOS sensor to enhance shots when captured in low light conditions.

The Omnivision OV2720 is a very small image sensor that is capable of capturing video at 1080p (Full HD) resolutions. The new sensor has been compacted down making it about 1/6 of an inch in size making it ideal for being embedded in to devices such as smartphones, laptops and perhaps the iPad 2.

When recording video in 1080p, the device is capable of capturing up to 30 frames per second. The device also uses a process to achieve better image quality in low light situations which is also a bonus, especially where smartphone cameras are concerned.

Omnivision has said in the past, or at least hinted in the past, that the Apple iphone 4G could get to use the sensor, but due to manufacturing on a mass scale not happening till next month of this sensor, it could be a little late for the next generation iPhone. Just a few days ago, Sony announced two new digital cameras called the Sony NEX-3 and the Sony NEX-5. We are now hearing that another higher spec model called the Sony NEX-7 is being launched later this year that will have full HD recording abilities being able to capture at 1080p.

This information comes from a website who managed to successfully predict the NEX-3 and NEX-5 which indicates they have a source close to the situation.

It is expected that the NEX-7 will use an APS-C chip a little different to what the NEX-3/5 currently uses. We also hear that slow motion video will be capable of being captured in 720p at 120 frames per second. As for 1080p, it is expected that a frame rate of 60fps will be achieved. [Read more…]

Amazon have a good deal on today only for the Casio Exilim EX-Z29 point and shoot digital camera. The normal price for the EX-Z29 is $119.99, but today Amazon are offering 42% off taking the price down to $69.00.

The camera it’s self has a 10.1 megapixel sensor and has a lens capable of 3X optical zoom. Around the back of the camera is a 2.7 inch LCD screen. Other features include face detection and best shot mode that allows you to set the camera to the best scene such as night shots, portrait shots, party shots, landscape shots etc….

Memory wise, it has 17.8 MB built in which is only good to capture a handful of pictures. You can however choose a memory card (either an SD or SDHC) which are relatively cheap to compliment that to add plenty more of storage space. Just a day after Sony announced the Sony NEX-5 and Sony NEX-3, we learn that both cameras are now available for pre-order.

The Sony NEX-5 is the higher end model of the two new cameras and comes with two options. When purchasing you get a choice of the camera and the 18-55mm E-Mount lens, or the option of a 16mm prime lens. Each option costs $699.99 and $649.99 respectively.

Next up is the Sony NEX-3 that drops full HD 1080 recording as well as ads a little bulk to the camera and also drops a few other features… but costs $100 less. Options here include the same 18-55mm lens which costs $599.99 or with the 16mm prime lens the price drops to $549.99. [Read more…]

Photography Blog has done another lengthy review. The Casio EX FH100 review goes in to eight pages worth of review covering all aspects of the digital camera and what it can and cannot do.

The Casio EX-FH100 has a 10 megapixel sensor, is capable of 10X zoom and has an illuminated sensor to help with darkened shots. One of the more impressive features is it’s ability to capture video at 1000 frames per second providing the ability to capture some amazing slow motion shots.

The review is quite positive although a bit of work on the innards of the camera is said to be needed which includes poor quality images when settings of over ISO 200 are used. [Read more…]

Amazon have a cracking deal on the Kodak Zx1 HD Camcorder at the moment bringing the price down from £149.99 all the way down to £39.97.

The camera is capable of capturing video in 720p HD and comes with 128MB of internal memory. Although this will only be good for a few minutes of video capture, you can purchase an additional SD or SDHC card for quite cheap at the moment which still makes the £110 saving a cracking deal.

Amazon currently have a good deal on the Polaroid t1031 point and shoot digital camera. List price is normally $119.99 and Amazon have knocked 50% off the price bringing it down to $59.99 at the moment. It also ships with super saver shipping for free.

The Polaroid t1031 has a 10 megapixel sensor. On the back is a 3 inch colour LCD display. It is capable of a 3X optical zoom with a further 4X digital zoom.

Canon has announced a new digital camera called the Canon Powershot SD4000. The new digital camera falls in to a new series of camera called Digital ELPH that uses a high-sensitivity system allowing for the lens to capture at a bright f/2.0 setting.

The camera is a point and shoot camera that uses the Canon HS System to capture the enhanced images. As well as being good at capturing in low light situations the camera is also capable of capturing in HD.

The CMOS sensor can capture at 10 megapixels and is back-illuminated. For processing images after they are captured the camera uses the DIGIC 4 image processor. By using the DIGIC 4 in line with the HS SYSTEM the camera can enhance the images as well as reduce noise at higher ISO speeds. [Read more…]

This morning we wrote about the Sony NEX-3 that was spotted due to an announcement about a Sony HD Camcorder being launched late this fall. We now have the official specs for the Sony NEX-3 and the Sony NEX-5.

Each camera is similar in terms of technical specs. Both have a 14.2 megapixel Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor to capture images. Each camera uses a BIONZ image processor. Each has an ISO range of 200 – 12,800.

Differences between the cameras give the NEX-5 the edge over the NEX-3 in terms of the NEX-5 being capable of capturing video at 1080i HD whereas the NEX-3 captures video at 720p. [Read more…]

Just a few moments ago we wrote about a new HD Sony Camcorder that was being worked on that featured an interchangeable lens system. The only details we had about the camcorder was that it used an Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor found in the NEX-3 and NEX-5.

This camera here is the NEX-3 that has that same sensor. The device features a 14.2 megapixel sensor and also uses the Sony E Series lens mount. On the back is a 7.5cm LCD screen. ISO sensitivity on the EVIL NEX-3 ranges from 200 to 12,800.

The camera is quite small measuring 117.2mm by 62.6mm by 33.4mm and weighs just 297 grams. Capabilities of the camera include the ability to capture HD video at a resolution of 720p at 30 frames per second. [Read more…]
