Apple iPad Discounts for Education Institutions

So we’re not far away from the US launch of the Apple iPad Wi-Fi version… coming April 3 which is under 2 weeks away. Apple [AAPL] are giving discounts on the iPad for educational institutions whereby they get a certain amount of cash off the price of an iPad when purchased in bulk, ie in boxes of 10 in a single box.

The various price configurations are shown below that show savings of around $200 (or $20 per iPad) on the Wi-Fi 16GB version. Although not a big saving at least it’s a saving.

Solar Powered iPhone Charger

The Muzatech iPhone Charger is a device that attaches to the bottom of your iPhone and allows the battery of the phone to be charged by solar power.

The iPhone charger has a 1000mAh battery inside that is charged when left in sunlight. When connected to the iPhone the lithium battery is then used to charge the iPhone battery. Google Street View Images to be Removed by UK Government Request

Although Google [GOOG] have provided a fantastic service by launching Google Street View (in a number of people’s opinions), a few people still dislike it and even the UK government is now after them after they recently uploaded certain images of locations protected by the official secrets act. The UK Government has requested that Google remove those images.

The images included the Special Boat Service and Special Air Service bases as well as the atomic weapons research centre as well as pictures of MI5’s headquarters.

Although these locations can easily be caught on camera, it is actually illegal to take pictures of secret government buildings and those doing so can be fined. With Google publishing the images online it does provide to be a useful service for terrorists who may use the images to their advantage… ie, spotting weaknesses to name a few things. [Read more…]

Sony Ericsson X10 Prepares for Launch on T-Mobile UK

As well as T-Mobile getting ready to launch the HTC Desire on their network in the UK this week, they also have uploaded pricing for the Sony Ericsson X10 also giving the phone away for free for those who sign up for a 24 month contract paying £35/month. For the £35/month you get 900 minutes of calls and 500 text messages as well as the “unlimited” 1GB data plan.

The cheapest monthly cost you can get the phone for is just £10/month although at that price you’ll need to pay £226 for the handset and you’ll also be locked in for 24 months as well. [Read more…]

Hallods eT4300 HD PMP Launches in Japan

Over in Japan, the Hallods eT4300 HD PMP has been launched. The device has a 4.3 inch screen that can display 800 x 480 pixels and has a HD video output for playing 720p content on HDTV devices.

The device weighs just 150 grams and measures 72mm x 111mm x 15mm and comes with 8GB of internal storage. Memory capacity of the device is 8GB although that can be expanded by making use of the SD/SDHC memory card slot providing another storage area for files.

The battery on the eT4300 PMP allows for 3 hours of video playback or 13 hours of audio playback. A number of file formats are also accepted which include all the common ones such as AVI, FLV, MOV and MP4 to name a few. [Read more…]

Zipcharge Quick Charger

The Zipcharge Quick Charger is another device that allows you to charge up your mobile phone, PDA or MP3 player while on the move.

The device is available over at Firebox where they claim the charger can charge a phone up to four times quicker than a regular lithium-ion charger. Just 15 minutes of charging time is capable of giving your iPod another 20 hours of music playback and a standard mobile phone about 10 hours of talk time. Obviously those numbers won’t match up for the iPhone and other large screen smartphone devices, but for a smaller phone that requires a lot less battery juice to keep running it certainly will come in handy. LEGO’s Underground Secure Vault Captured on Video

Gizmodo managed to get a trip to visit the LEGO underground secure vault which contains every single LEGO set ever made, still boxed and unused.

The LEGO sets are stored in a secure vault that has the environment controlled keeping it at the right temperature and humidity to best preserve the 1000’s of boxed of LEGO bricks.

Visiting the Lego’s Memory Lane”the secret vault guarding almost every Lego set ever manufactured”touched me in a way I didn’t expect. This wasn’t amazement or simple awe. I was already astonished to no end by the tour of the Lego factory. No, this was something else, something bigger than the impressive view of the 4,720 Lego sets inside this lair. These weren’t just simple boxes full of bricks. These were tickets to ride a time portal to emotions and simpler days long forgotten.

HTC HD2 Sold Early by Walmart

The T-Mobile HTC HD2 is scheduled to be on sale starting March 24 although a couple of reports are showing that Walmart are actually selling it early… as in now (or yesterday even).

A couple of users who managed to get their T-Mobile network version of the HD2 have posted pictures online with one of them even posting an unboxing video. (seen below).

The HD2 on the T-Mobile network runs a few more media functions such as having streaming content and the ability to connect to Blockbuster for content. [Read more…]

HTC Desire spotted on T-Mobile UK

If you are after a HTC Desire in the UK and the T-Mobile network works well for you then for £35/month you can pick up the handset for free. T-Mobile confirm on the site that shipping will take up to 7 days which aligns closely with when Amazon are shipping the SIM free variant of the phone.

Another good deal that T-Mobile has is a 24 month contract at £15/month where you can purchase the phone for £129 which isn’t a bad deal at all. With the £15/month price plan you get 300 minutes, 300 texts and the usual unlimited (limited to 1GB) internet connectivity although from my experience with T-Mobile I’ve only got close to the limit once in the last 3 years. ASUS Eee 1001PX Intel Atom N450 Netbook Details

ASUS have updated another one of their Eee netbooks to include the newer Intel Atom N450 CPU. The netbook is known as the ASUS Eee 1001PX and runs the N450 at 1.66GHz. Memory wise it has 1GB of RAM and the casing has also had an upgrade and is now made of carbon-fiber.

Two variations of the ASUS 1001PX are being created with the first running Windows XP which will have a 160GB hard drive and a three cell battery capable of about 5 hours of usage. The other model runs Windows 7 and has a 250GB hard drive along with a 6 cell battery capable of 9 hours of usage between charges.

The physical casing is the same regardless of buying the Windows 7 or XP version and each has three USB 2.0 ports, a VGA output, 10/100 Ethernet port as well as a mic/headphone jack and a memory card reader. [Read more…]

Wii Football Controller is Now Real

August 26 2009 was the day when we posted about the Nintendo Wii Football controller patent. We thought at the time that if it were to be created it would account for many cracked plasma screens with people accidentally throwing it towards the screen. I personally didn’t think it would actually happen… but CTA Digital have gone and made the Wii Football Controller a reality.

Perhaps a company needs to step up and make a HDTV protector that you can throw over your 42 inch screen to prevent it from getting cracked and smashed. Although it is made of soft foam, there is still a plastic Wii controller sat within that could cause damage.

Apple iPad Apps now being Accepted

On Friday, Apple [AAPL] opened up to accepting Apple iPad apps for review. If you are an iPhone OS developer then it’s time to get your apps up-sized or recreated for the iPad to make use of the larger screen.

The Apple iPad section of the App store will open up on April 3 (day of the iPad launch), so now would be a good time to get those apps approved.

To get your app approved you’ll need to log in to iTunes Connect and submit your application. After a short wait you’ll have the review telling you if it was accepted or not and if not, why etc…

To have your app ready for launch day and in the app store ready to buy and download, you’ll need to get it submitted to Apple by March 27 5:00pm PDT at the latest or it will miss the launch day. [Read more…]
