Archos Tablets Android 2.2 Froyo Update

Archos has announced that a good number of its Android tablets will be getting an update to Android 2.2 (Froyo) shortly.

Model numbers that will get the update include the 23, 32, 43, 70 and 101 series. The new version will be Android 2.2.1 which allows for better performance on the tablet, better battery life as well as a few other new features. [Read more…]

Samsung App Store Hits 1 Million Downloads

Samsung has announced that the Samsung App store just passed 1 million downloads. At the moment there are just over 200 apps in the store which isn’t really anything when compared to the likes of the Apple store, but when 200 apps have achieved over a million downloads, that’s quite impressive. The Xbox Live Rewards program has now launched. The service was first tested a year ago and has now been available to all in the UK and the US.

Canon EOS 5D Mk II and 7D Get Optional Locking Dial

Canon has announced a service that allows you to purchase a Canon EOS 5D Mark II or EOS 7D with a lockable dial. What this does is allows you to push a button down and lock the dial in place to prevent you knocking it in the middle of a photo shoot.

The BBC will be launching a subscription based iPlayer service for those out of the UK. The service will initially be made available to those using the Apple iPad and will then expand out after that.

Android 2.x Most Popular on Android Smartphones

The latest numbers at Android Developers reveal that Android 2.x is still growing strong on Android smartphones. The numbers now reveal that Android 2.1 accounts for 39.6 percent while Android 2.2 has risen to 43.4 percent.

As expected, Android 1.5 and 1.6 continues to die down with 1.5 taking 6.3% and 1.6 taking 10.6 percent. [Read more…]

Gran Turismo 5 Damage Patch Launching This Month

The boss of Polyphony Digital has mentioned on Twitter that an update is being made available, early in December, for Gran Turismo 5 on the PlayStation 3.

The new update is for damage control and will allow users to control in the options menu the amount of mechanical damage caused by crashes.

‘Mechanical damage options will be implemented in a new update for GT5 coming “early December”‘.

YouTube Lets you Now Skip Ads

YouTube has added a new feature today that allows you to skip past the TrueView ads that show on some content.

This may seem a little odd and you might expect the advertisers to hate this, but it’s actually the opposite as advertisers at the moment are all for it. Basically, when you start viewing a video that has an ad playing before it, you have a countdown timer that counts from 5 to zero. Once at zero you can click to skip the ad, or not click to view it.
