Nokia N8 Drop Test

Nokia has created a video showing the world how mobile phones are tested in terms of how much abuse they can take. This particular test, embedded below, shows two Nokia N8 smartphones being dropped repeatedly in a revolving chamber for about 120 seconds at a time.

The chamber it sits in simulates the height from your shirt pocket to the floor so that an accurate test can be performed. [Read more…]

Samsung Android 2.3 Smartphone Launching Early 2011

Samsung is believed to be launching a new flagship phone early in 2011. The name is unknown at the moment although the image below shows some details indicating that it will launch in February 2011 and run the Google Android 2.3 OS called Gingerbread.

Other details indicate it will have a Super AMOLED screen called sAMOLED2 which indicates its a second gen screen. That screen measures 4.5 inches and has a WVGA resolution. We also see details of a smaller 4.3 inch screen also being a possibility. [Read more…]

FaceBook Email – Project Titan Landing Monday

FaceBook is expected to launch an @facebook webmail service this coming Monday. Earlier this year the service/system was reported to be called Project Titan.

Invites have now gone out designed in the form of a letter hinting that Monday could be the day the email service is announced. [Read more…]

Minority Report Style Kinect Hack Demonstration

The open source drivers for the Microsoft Kinect were opened up a few days ago. Along with this, some unique ways to use the Kinect have started to show up.

Google Nexus S Spotted

Yesterday, information about a new Google Nexus S smartphone started to leak out. The images were sent in to Engadget who comment that the phone pictures were actually captured about a month ago.

Kinect’s First Day

Well it’s been a day since Microsoft’s new hands-free, motion sensing camera – Kinect, arrived in the UK.

With such titles as Kinectimals and Dance Central, we gain a small glimpse at what Kinect is capable of. But this comes with mixed reviews. Many users have complained about the spacial requirements deemed necessary by the hi-tech camera where others have found difficulties in the camera’s ability to recognise faces. 5.6 Million Copies Sold – Call of Duty: Black Ops

We posted an article yesterday regarding pretty impressive stats concerning Xbox LIVE’s online multiplayer gamers logging on to Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Receiving raving reviews (GameSpot for example giving the game a 9.0 with the only downside being that the campaign mode is too short) Black Ops has managed to sell 5.6 million copies in the UK and North America combining to gross a grand total of $360 million during the game’s first 24hrs. Though inspite of this, many gamers arrived home after the games midnight release disappointed due to lag issues and graphical glitches and the like. [Read more…]

Nikon D700 with $6000 Lens Destroyed in Dragster Race

What you are looking at here is a dead Nikon D700 camera, battery grip and a $6000 Nikon 400mm 2.8 lens that was destroyed in a drag race.

The camera was being remote controlled at the time when a top fuel dragster lost control at the Auto Club Famoso in Bakersfield camera. When losing control, it went up the barrier and smacked in to the camera smashing it in to pieces. [Read more…]

JooJoo Tablet is Discontinued

The JooJoo has been discontinued although Fusion Garage, the company behind it, are still alive and pressing forwards.

Chandrashekar Rathakrishnan, founder of Fusion Garage, confirmed to e27 today that the tablet was being stopped. What they will be doing from now on is focusing on other tablets, perhaps a JooJoo 2 that will run Android rather than Linux. [Read more…]

Android Market Share Jumps to 25.5 Percent

Gartner released some numbers showing the 3rd quarter sales of various smartphones listed by OS. Top of the list is Symbian that took 36.6% market share. Android followed just behind that taking 25.5% with iOS following at 16.7 percent.

These numbers indicate a huge growth for Android which in the same quarter of 2009 was at just 3.5% market share. [Read more…]

Samsung Galaxy Tab AT&T Prices Revealed

We just mentioned that Verizon is now selling the Galaxy Tab. We also hear today that AT&T will begin selling the Tab soon, perhaps on November 21 if the images above and below are to be believed.

Price wise, it looks like the Galaxy Tab on AT&T will be priced at $649.99 without a contract. The data plans look to be the same as those that are available for the iPad with the option of 250MB for $14.99/month or 2GB for $25/month. [Read more…]
