ioSafe has announced a new series of rugged hard drive enclosures called the ioSafe SoloPRO. When we call the ioSafe rugged, we mean that it can withstand a fire, being dunked in water as well as a fair bit of physical abuse whilst still keep the data inside it completely safe.

Our ioSafe Solo review scored the external hard drive quite well. Since our review, which was just over a year ago, a new SSD model has arrived. This even new model (the SoloPRO) improves on the past models.

The drive is available in USB 3.0 as well as eSATA/USB 2.0 formats which allows for you to get the best option for your needs. If you have a newer PC that supports USB 3.0, then take advantage of the faster interface. [click to continue…]

Thanko has launched a USN 3.0 hard disk drive enclosure that allows you to connect up a hard drive and make use of the faster USB 3.0 speeds.

Included in the box is a USB 3.0 cable, carrying pouch, instruction manual and screws that let you mount a 2.5 inch SATA HDD in to the enclosure.

The new HDD enclosure is only USB 3.0 compatible, so if you have a 2.0 only PC then it won't work. From what we understand the drive is compatible with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 in either 32-bit or 64-bit varieties. Thanko do not mention if it is compatible on the Mac or not. Seagate has announced the launch of the Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid Drive. The Momentus XT combines a mixture of a regular hard drive and SSD storage to create a fast hybrid storage solution.

The system uses what Seagate call Adaptive Memory technology that allows the drive to deliver SSD performance. The SSD chips can hold 4GB of data which is filled by the more commonly used files such as operating system files, programs and data. By moving them to SSD it allows fast access. As your computer usage changes the technology adapts and moves the new files to the SSD portion of the drive.

The Momentus XT can be used in regular laptops and the drive system runs completely separate to the drivers making it far easier to integrate with a system. [click to continue…]
