It appears that T-Mobile might be introducing the new model of the myTouch 3G Android based smartphone today as the phone has appears on their site. New features on the phone vs the older myTouch 3G include a 3.5mm headphone jack along with a little extra memory that sees it move from 192MB up to 288MB.
Software on this version of the phone includes the new Swype keyboard and doubleTwist.
Although it is rumoured to be released today, as of yet there are no prices available. The previous model is still selling for $149 on a 2 year contract although the phone has been discontinued. [click to continue…]

Information about Swype has been known for about a year now. Swype is a system that allows you to glide your finger around a virtual keyboard and each time you change direction it can work out the word you are trying to spell. Tiki’Labs have created a new virtual keyboard called TikiNotes that claims to be faster as well as more efficient than the virtual keyboard Swype. [click to continue…]

In September last year we first mentioned Swype, a system that was created by the inventor of T9 predictive text input. The Swype system allows you to glide your finger around a virtual keyboard moving quickly from letter to letter while it calculates what word you are wanting to input.
After about 14 months of waiting we hear today that the Samsung Omnia 2 on the Verizon network will be the first phone to use the Swype input system.
The Swype input system appears to work very well on the comparison. The video below shows text on an iPhone compare to Swype on another phone with the user inputting text with Swype being the clear winner in terms of speed. Of course it’s not a result for every iPhone user vs Swype user as it will all depend on the person entering the text, but at least it offers another option for text entry on a virtual keyboard hopefully that some people will like. For those familiar with sending text messages from a standard mobile phone you will probably have used the T9 dictionary sometimes known as predictive text. What T9 did was allow you to tap each number just once and as you spelled your word out it would then eventually get to the correct word. This helped speed up the process of text messaging as it required just 1 click per key rather then tapping the number 3 key three times to get an F.
