The GPS chip is utilised more than just geo-tagging though and can be used as a guidance system by pulling data from Google Maps to show you exactly where you are at any given time.

Over at PMA that’s running at the moment, a Casio representative revealed that the concept camera was actually to be launched this year in October and will have a price point of $400. [Read more…]

Casio Hybrid GPS Tracks both in and outdoors

Casio are launching a new hybrid GPS camera that aims to track where you are when you capture photos both in and outdoors. It achieves this by using a mixture of GPS data and accelerometer data. The theory behind the Hybrid GPS system is that most cameras, if not all, spend most of their time out of sight of a GPS lock and thus, you can’t really get a fix most of the time. By getting a fix with the GPS unit the camera system can then measure with accelerometer movement where the camera is moving and what direction giving a rough estimate to where it is, even when you walk around your home or leave it in the back of the car.

Accelerometers have been found in cameras for a few years now to detect orientation of the camera, ie, is it landscape or portrait and they rotate images accordingly. Some even detect if the camera is the right way up and can then spot the sky more easily and adjust settings accordingly. [Read more…]

Childrens GPS Tracker Watch

lok8u-num8-children-gps-tracking-watchThe GPS tracker watch is designed for children to be worn so that their parents can keep track and know where they are. It might be classed as an invasion of privacy for children, but at the same time it could also protect a child if something unfortunate was to happen.

The watch is named the “lok8u num8” which I guess is in the txt-msg style that some people use and actually means “locate you” – “new mate”. The watch side of the device is just your standard watch that tells the time. Inside a GPS tracking chip and locator is found that has an accuracy of up to 3 meters which isn’t bad at all. The device works similar to how latitude works from Google in that the system uses a mobile phone network to send GPS coordinates to which then an authorised user can look at the location. GPS Watch with Data Logger, Photo Tagger and More

gps-enabled-watch_2The GPS watch houses 4-in-1 GPS features that let you track your location anywhere on the globe. The watch, as well as telling the time, allows you to track your location, acts as a data logger, photo tagger and a receiver.

When you are walking back to your car the 360 degree directional lights on the watch will tell you which direction you should be walking. And then when you come within 50 meters of the saved location, the arrows around the watch face will begin flashing, and when you are within 15 meters the arrows will turn blue. This smart function is great for anyone who needs help finding his way back to their car or hotel. Don’t let a massive sea of cars get you lost when your trying to find your car after watching a live football game at a stadium.

Garmin Nuvi 265 WT GPS Speed Tested

Garmin-Nuvi-GPSIf you are looking for a sat nav device that can track speeds over 500MPH then the Garmin Nuvi 265 WT was tested by it’s owner at speeds over 500MPH. To achieve this they went aboard a Cessna 750 private jet, attached it to the window and the device was capable of still being tracked.

Although 500+ seems like a nice speed to track in reality, from my understanding, GPS units can be tracked at speeds quite far above that, but still it’s still strangely interesting to see that it can be done. [Read more…]
