A few days ago we mentioned a new prototype screen built by Sony that could display a 360 degree image in 3D. It was unknown what this screen could be used for although a few examples of instore advertising were mentioned.
The prototype is only capable of displaying just a few thousand pixels so is nowhere near HD quality, but for uniqueness they have created something quite cool. [click to continue…]

The LG BL40 Chocolate mobile phone is unique due to it’s cinematic widescreen display that has an aspect ratio of 21:9 allowing it to play feature length movies with no borders top or bottom. With the BL40 having a large aspect ratio screen the phone is longer than your average mobile phone and though pictures seem to show the phone being a little over sized, when holding it you’ll find that it actually works very well and sits in your pocket very well.
The front of the phone is covered in tempered glass and has a nice glossy shine to it. There are no buttons on the front of the device and it’s just a smooth piece of glass that has just the ear speaker cut out. Both the top and bottom ends of the phone are accented in a vibrant red while the sides continue on the glossy black look of the front along with a thin silver strip that runs the length of the phone on each side. On the back of the phone the black gloss look is continued with just a small cut out for the 5 megapixel camera lens, flash and a small microphone. [click to continue…]

Google [GOOG] have created Google Building Maker which is a program that allows you to create 3D buildings for Google Earth.
By using this software you become part of a world wide team that is creating a virtual planet a single building at a time (although you don’t get paid, it’s all done with a passion for wanting to create something cool).
To get the software you need to load up the Google Building Maker page (link above) and click to download a 3D plugin the loads right up in your browser. After that you are presented with a map (see image above) where you can zoom right in to where you want to start designing. The problem here is that not all places have good enough imagery, so the other options you have is to find a place that does, or use one of the suggested locations that Google lists. The LG Viewty Smart GC900 is an upgrade from the popular LG Viewty launched back in 2007. The latter version was launched a few months ago in June. We decided it was time to take a look at the LG Viewty Smart and review it to see how it compares to the latest phones from LG.
The Viewty Smart is a big upgrade to the original Viewty. It uses the S-Class 3D interface that we first saw on the LG Arena, has an 8 megapixel camera, A-GPS, 1.5GB of memory, WiFi and HSDPA. Looks wise, the LG Viewty Smart looks more similar to the Arena in design rather than the original Viewty. That’s understandable though considering the original Viewty is around 2 years old now. The LG Chocolate BL20 was spotted earlier this month and was originally thought to be called the LG BL42.
The LG BL20 does not have a touchscreen like it’s bigger brother, the LG BL40 but it does have a touch-sensitive navigation area below the screen that has hidden keys. Also a sliding alphanumeric keypad is included with the phone. The front face of the device appears to be a single sheet of glass making it completely smooth with the keypad sliding out from underneath the device. [click to continue…]

Check out this amazing animation projected on to the side of a mansion somewhere in the North east of England. The projection was part of some secret festival that took place and shows a number of cool effects that have the building appearing to be exploded along with a pac-man animation thrown in for fun.
Check out the amazing video after the jump and you will be truly impressed! [click to continue…]

I just came across the Tron Legacy (Tron 2.0, Tr2n etc..) trailer today and have to say it looks like it will be great. The new film will star Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wild, Bruce Boxleitner and will be released in 2010.
The film is a follow on from the Tron film back in the early 80’s. It is being shot in 3D and should be making it to the huge screen over at Imax cinemas which will be good. [click to continue…]

Many business cards are boring to be honest. Most, if not all just show your name, rank and how you can be contacted. A guy named James Alliban has decided to used augmented reality to create his business cards. The cards were printed at moo.com and on the back contain a graphic which is then captured on to a computer via a webcam. When the camera picks up the little graphic a cool 3D grid of coloured planes pops up, each extruding towards the camera depending on the brightness of the pixel, and then a video can be played back with the business card owner being seen talking with a message about himself. FujiFilm are getting set to launch a new camera that is capable of shooting images in 3D. The camera is named the FinePix Real 3D System and thanks to a couple of lenses built in, you can capture images in 3D. The lenses are about eye widths apart so that the 3D effect shows you exactly what you would see.
The camera has a resolution of 10 megapixels to capture the 2 images that are then put together to create a 3D effect. A special photo frame is available separately that is capable of showing 3D images. [click to continue…]

3D is becoming a big thing since a plethora of 3D screens and graphics cards were revealed over the last year. When ever people think of 3D they think of the red and blue cardboard specs that you had to wear when watching Jaws 3D back in the 80’s. These more modern days we now see rather cool looking dark glasses which are more acceptable but still a pain if you ask me. For this reason a company have been working on a 3D TV that requires no special glasses at all and allows you to just sit and watch. [click to continue…]
