An almost waterless washing machine has been created by Stephen Burkinshaw who is a professor of Textile Chemistry here in Leeds, England. The eco-washing machine could be one of the best kitchen gadgets ever if launched.
Due to it’s eco-friendlyness it could potentially have an environmental impact of taking two million cars off the road. That’s a HUGE amount.
The machine only uses 1 cup of water for cleaning clothes which is a big saving. The small amount of water is used for humidity purposes only. [click to continue…]

According to a survey, 70% of people do not bother reading labels on clothing. This can of course cause problems with delicate clothing by damaging, shrinking, colours all merging etc… With the RFID Clothes Tag concept you need not worry again. By putting your RFID tagged clothes in to a compatible washing machine, you will never need to make setting changes again. The RFID will be detected and adjust the washing machine settings automatically so that nothing is damaged. The concept idea also makes mention of it communicating with your iron, dryer and presses so that exact temperatures are set when switching on the iron.

Your average TV or Plasma screen is built out of solid material like plastic and glass. Philips decided that a different approach is necessary by introducing Furry Vision. The screen is made out of fabric with hairs which lay flat against the surface. When an electrostatic charge is applied it makes the hair stand on end. So how on earth do you get a screen out of that? Well, the hairs are one colour and the fabric is another colour. When the hairs are laying down you see blue and when they stand up you see red for example. Throw a bunch of these together and make them small enough you get a number of pixels to make up a screen. This should allow for complete images and no doubt video as time goes on.

The LCD TV market is getting huge now due to prices always dropping. This has allowed various technologies to be worked with such as virtual mirrors. These tend to be mirrors that hang on your wall, and also have a screen built in. When the screen it switched on the surface is no longer reflecting an image of you, but is showing a video.
Using this idea, a store in New York decided that clothes can be tried on by facing a mirror and displaying the clothes on screen. Where the clothes are not, you can see your reflection as though you are wearing the clothes. To add to this, a picture is then taken, emailed to friends and family and an opinion can be gained as to weather you buy the item of clothing or not.
Seems like an interesting idea and might help speed up things for those who get bored waiting for their wives to try on everything in a store.
