Windows Phone 7 Series Dial-Pad Spotted

Microsoft [MSFT] didn’t get to show off all of Windows Phone 7 Series for obvious reasons in that there’s only so much time allotted to present things and it could get a bit tedious showing every single variation of screen that might be used on a 7 Series smartphone. Also the operating system is in very early stages of development which could be the reason this dial pad looks so simple.

The dial-pad pictured shows the usual 12 buttons along with alpha characters above each number and a space above that to show what number is being dialled. It does look simple and might not be the final product although with Windows Phone 7’s being based around simple it might actually be the real deal. [Read more…]

HTC Smart runs Brew OS – Exclusive to O2

The HTC Smart is a budget phone that’s heading exclusively to the O2 network. The Smart runs the Brew operating system designed by Qualcomm and has the Sense UI as an overlay to that operating system.

The HTC Smart has a 300MHz processor along with 256MB of RAM. For storage a Micro SD card slot can be found. The screen measures 2.8 inches and can display 240 x 320 pixels. On the back of the phone a 3 megapixel camera can be found.

For connectivity the HTC Smart has HSDPA along with GSM/GPRS and Edge connectivity. Wireless networking is not included on the phone with it being a budget device, but you do get Bluetooth 2.0 along with A2DP stereo audio. [Read more…]

Verizon to allow Skype on Blackberry and Android Smartphones

Verizon [VZ] have announced that they are now to allow smartphones connected to their network to use Skype. The network will now allow unlimited Skype-to-Skype voice calls within the US and also allow you to utilise cheaper SkypeOut calling rates both in and out of the US.

Phones that are compatible include the Blackberry Storm, Storm2, 8330, 8530, 8830 and Tour 9630. Also a number of Android based phones are also capable of utilising the service. [Read more…]

Lenovo ThinkPad X201 Range Spotted

Leaked information on the Lenovo Thinkpad X201 series has been spotted recently that shows the new range of laptops are getting some upgrades to their looks as well as upgraded internals.

The Thinkpad X201 will have a 12 inch screen putting it close to the netbook category. Several processor options will be available for the 12 inch laptops which include the Core i7-620M option for the X201 and the Core i7-620LM for the X201s. The X201 and X201s come with speakers although the s variety has mono sound on it’s speakers for some reason.

An optional webcam is available that has quite an impressive 2 megapixel sensor is also being made available for the Lenovo X201 series. What has stayed the same on the new series of models are the ports, ie there is no eSATA, no HDMI, or DisplayPort. It has the same keyboard as the X20. [Read more…]

XPAL Solar Egg Charger – 4 Hour Charge on Indirect Sunlight

XPAL have created a new solar charger that is capable of reaching full charge in just four hours. What makes the XPAL solar charger more impressive is that the four hour charge can be achieved in indirect sunlight where as other chargers rely on direct sunlight to charge.

The system uses what it calls “magic SunBoost solar conversion technology” that uses medium levels of natural light to charge the device. That particular technology was created by a company called Intivation who are based in the Netherlands.

So that the XPAL Solar Egg charger functions more it has the ability to detect what type of device it is connected to and can change the output to not waste energy. An example could be an MP3 player that requires less power than a digital camera to charge. [Read more…]

Acer Aspire One 532G is NVIDIA ION 2 Powered

Acer have unveiled their latest netbook called the Acer Aspire One 532G. The new Aspire One 532G is the first netbook to run the NVIDIA ION 2 chipset.

Feature wise, it has a 10.1 inch LED backlit display. It uses an Intel Atom N450 processor that runs at 1.66GHz which is complimented by the NVIDIA GT218 GPU that has 512MB of dedicated memory attached.

Battery life on the new Aspire One is also excellent and according to numbers is good for about 10 hours of usage on a single charge which we assume is low usage and not highend graphics usage. [Read more…]

Deal of the Day: MSI Microstar X400-205US X-Slim Laptop

LogicBuy have a deal on their MSI Microstar X-Slim netbook at the moment (the deal is ending today sometime so you’ll need to act quick). They current have $150 knocked off the price of the laptop bringing it down from $549 to $399 which also includes free shipping.

The MSI X-Slim X400 has a 14 inch screen and comes with a black and silver trip. The processor powering this laptop is an Intel Core 2 Solo SU2700 running at 1.3GHz. For memory it has 2GB of RAM and storage is by hard drive with a capacity of 320GB. The laptop also uses the Intel GMA 4500HD graphics chipset.

HTC Desire Announced – Going to Orange in UK

HTC have also announced the HTC Desire today. Also, Orange UK have announced that they will be rolling the phone out over here in the UK.

The HTC Desire is another Android based phone. It runs the Android 2.1 OS and is powered by a Snapdragon 1GHz processor from Qualcomm.

The HTC Desire is 3G+ enabled allowing it to connect at the fastest speeds possible on Orange’s network. Other features on the phone include a GPS sensor, a gravity sensor, digital compass, 512MB of memory that can be expanded with up to a 32GB microSD card.

The screen on the HTC Desire measures 3.7 inches and is in WVGA format. The screen is capacitive and has an anti-fingerprint screen coating to prevent marks saying on the screen that normally plague touchscreen devices. [Read more…]

HTC HD Mini Announced

The HTC HD Mini was announced at MWC today and is a Windows Mobile 6.5.3 device that has a 3.2 inch HVGA screen.

The phone it’s self is described as being a scaled down version of the larger HTC HD2 but with a smaller screen and more capable of being carried around.

The HTC HD Mini seems to focus more on design as the promo video below shows emphasis on design features which oddly enough, seem to revolve around the 4 screws that hold the phone together as well as having bright yellow innards for some reason. [Read more…]

LG Mini GD880 Announced

Bear with us for the next 30 minutes or so as several new handsets have been announced over at MWC, three of which are from HTC although this first one is an LG handset. First off is the LG Mini GD880 which claims to be the worlds first 3 way sync feature phone… we’ll explain what that means shortly.

The LG GD880 Mini is a phone measuring just 10.6mm in depth and weighs just 99 grams. The LG 3-Way Sync service is called LG Air Sync and allows mobile phones to sync continuously with their home computer so that when data is uploaded to one device, it is automatically backed up on the other device over the internet. Files that could be included in the LG Air Sync are photos, video clips, phone books, celendars to name a few.

“We live in an information-oriented society with vast amounts of data and content scattered all over the place. Because of this, one of the major battles in the future mobile market is likely to be in the data management technology industry, focusing on seamless access among different devices,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “We have developed the LG Mini, which offers technological integration with its unique LG Air Sync service, in response to this trend.”

HTC HD2 on T-Mobile

T-Mobile have officially announced that the HTC HD2 is heading to their network in the US. Rather than being a traditional HD2 branded by a carrier, this particular model will have what T-Mobile call “a never-before-seen mobile experience” to those in the US.

What that means is subscribers to T-Mobile who pick up a HD2 will have access to several entertainment features that are pre-installed on the device. This includes a Barnes & Noble eReader that gives you access to more than a million eBooks, newspapers, magazines etc…

Blockbuster on Demand is also pre-installed and allows users to download movies on to their phone. MobiTV is also included that installed that brings a number of channels including MTV, NBC, Comedy Central and ESPN to the HD2. [Read more…]

MagSafe Style Custom Connector for Laptops

MacBook users have had MagSafe power connectors for quite a while now. The MagSafe is a magnetic power connector that connects the power lead to your laptop and if the cable is tripped over, it simply falls off without damaging the power connector.

For those of you who do not have a MagSafe, you can now create your own MagSafe connector to protect your laptop. The connector actually looks quite good. Normally these sort of hacks are bodge jobs that are stuck together with glue and have wires hanging out. This one actually looks quite good! [Read more…]
