Playstation 4 Concept Designed

new-playstation-4-consoleAlthough still a number of years away, a concept designer has decided to create a 3D model of a PlayStation 4. It was created by designer Tai Chiel and has a number of interesting features such as an embedded OLED screen in the transparent section to allow you to view menus, saved games and what looks to be like a game playing on one of the screen shots.

It is unclear when a PS4 will be made available as there are many years left in the PS3 and other consoles like the XBox 360, but that still doesn’t stop the design from being great. [Read more…]

Sony E Series Walkman Review

Sony-E-Series-Walkman-MenuThe Sony E Series Walkman, named the NWZ-E443, is a 4GB flash based MP3 and video player. Several versions of the E series Walkman are available which include the 4GB model mentioned above, an 8GB model and a 16GB model. Size wise it measures 44 x 9.3 x 86.8 mm and it weighs just 54g. The Walkman has a 2 inch screen that can display 240 x 320 pixels and is used to display photos, track details and video.

Other features include an FM radio as well as a mic allowing voice recording. Battery power allows 30 hours of audio playback and while there are a few MP3 players that can squeeze more out of their battery, 30 hours is still a very acceptable amount. [Read more…]

Sony PS3 Firmware Update to Bring 3D to All PS3 Games

Sony-PS3-3D-FirmwareIn 2010, Sony will be launching a new firmware update for the PlayStation 3 that will bring 3D to ALL PlayStation 3 games. Although they say all, there might be a few games that just don’t work well with 3D, but on the whole all should be compatible.

The system works by sending out a HDMI signal to a 3D TV that runs at 200Hz. Each frame displayed on the screen alternates between the left and right eye giving a 100Hz per eye 3D image. For a test an Engadget editor tried out Wipeout HD and said it looked amazing. Samsung OLED Laptops Coming Next Year

Samsung-OLED-LaptopsAt IFA, Samsung mentioned that they will be using OLED for their laptop lineup next year when the screens become commercially available. This is expected to be quarter 3 next year.

Other than that comment from Kyu Uhm, the head of worldwide sales and marketing for the computing division, there were no other details mentioned. [Read more…]

Frankencamera the Open Source Camera

frankencameraThe Frankencamera is a gadget that allows you to build your own open source applications for the camera. It was created by Marc Levoy who is a professor at Stanford and Andrew Adams.

Levoy says the megapixel was is over and now we are just left waiting to see what the next feature will be every time a new camera is launched. The open source camera lets you mess around with the camera settings and create your own features. With it being open source you can let the experts create the features and then you simply just download them. This means that there will be no more waiting around for companies to innovate. Remote Controlled Transforming Robot Car

Robot-Remote-Controlled-CarThis remote controlled car is capable of transforming in to a robot. By hitting a button on the remote control the hood and front wheels elevate about 10″ in the air and expose a canon that fires suction cup darts.

Five darts can be stored inside and they can be fired in rapid succession. When you have finished causing destruction you then hit another button and the robot colapses back in to a car that you can drive around like a normal RC car. [Read more…]

Panasonic 3D HDTV

Unfortunately there were no cameras allowed while the 3D TV was on show, so you’ll just have to make do with some photos of the event it’s self and also another image showing some of the Panasonic TV’s that could be seem.

After HD TV, Panasonic believe the next step is in Full HD 3D technologies. Their product range spans from Broadcast Camera, to Blu-Ray to the TV in your living room. Therefore they are well equipped to provide the Full HD experience. Panasonic can provide the whole process, from shooting to watching, hence no middleman. [Read more…]

Sharp 936SH Solar Phone

Sharp-936SH-SolarPanelThe Sharp 936SH is a clamshell style phone that has a solar panel on the cover. Technical specs show that it is a HSDPA/UMTS phone that has a 3 inch FWVGA LCD screen. An 8 megapixel camera can be found on the back that allows it to take some fairly decent photos. Interestingly enough, the phone is also water-proof with an IPX5/7 rating.

However, the main feature is the solar panel that is touted to give about 1 minute of talk time or 2 hours of standby for every 10 minutes of charge. You may think that just 1 minute of talk time for 10 minutes of charge isn’t too good, but when your stuck somewhere without power to charge your phone it’s very handy to have. [Read more…]

Sharp PC-Z1 MID

Sharp-NetWalker-PC-Z1We mentioned the Sharp PC-Z1 a few days ago and now we managed to spot it in the flesh at IFA. The Sharp PC-Z1, also known as the NetWalker is a mobile internet device that has a 5 inch WSVGA LCD screen, an impressive 10 hour battery life, instant ON and 1 14mm pitch full QWERTY keyboard.

The NetWalker runs the Ubuntu Linux operating system that runs fairly light on system resources. Technical spec wise it has 512Mb of RAM and runs an 800MHz Arm Cortex-A8 processor. The device measures 161 x 109 x 20-25mm in dimensions and weighs just 410g. [Read more…]

Sharp AQUOS LED Backlit TV’s

Sharpe-AQUOS-LC-46LE700ESharp had an AQUOS LED Backlit TV on display this year. Sharp’s main aim is ‘High technology, and Super GreenĀ which will be achieved through the use of LED and a mixture of solar at their production plant. Sharpe have over 40 years of experience with LED’s since 1968 and have now created a new plant in Sakai Japan where they will be able to create 13 million HDTV’s a year. As part of their green initiative they also plan to create an 18MWatt solar panel plant on the roof of the Sakai building. Sharps other goal is to make larger and thinner displays.

On to the AQUOS range of TV’s we see that they have created the LC-46LE700E that runs at 46 inches in widescreen format. This TV is backlit by LED and runs at full HD at 1080p with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. [Read more…]

LG Magic Motion Remote Control

LG-Magic-Motion-Remote-DeviceAnother product on show at IFA 2009 was the LG Magic Motion remote control that has a gyro built in and can detect rotation and shaking of the remote control.

By using certain gestures like rotating the remote control to the left or right, the TV menu system can be controlled. Then all that is required is a single click to activate the needed function. [Read more…]

LG Announce the SL9000, SL8000 and LH9000 LED TV’s at IFA

LG-SL9000-42-InchAs well as announcing the LG LU7000 series TV’s, LG also announced 3 other new TV’s named the SL9000, SL8000 and LH9000 LED TV’s at IFA today. Each of the 3 new TV’s offers something new and each of them look fantastic.

The first is the new BORDERLESS SL9000 Edge LED TV. The Edge LED TV has it’s backlight actually around the edges of the screen allowing it to measure just 2.9cm in thickness. The glass on the front of the screen also goes right to the edge sitting flush with the bezel making it a complete smooth panel to hang on the wall.
